Designer babies - they're all around you

Designer babies are all around you

In fact, you’re one of those designer babies, and you might not even know it. There’s a lot of talk about how scientists and doctors might soon manipulate genes to get specific traits in babies on purpose. Essentially that makes humans genetically modified organisms…GMO. If you and your spouse decide you want a brown-haired, green-eyed baby boy who’s not predisposed to male pattern baldness, well…you simply place your order. Then, the doctors get to work on the necessary genes from the mom and dad and bingo! But what they (and maybe you) fail to realize is how each one of us is a designer baby already.

Designer babies - they're all around you

God designed us.

Before you go off on a tangent of how He sure makes a lot of mistakes (birth defects, organ failures, Hitler) it’s important to understand how God designed the process…not each and every individual baby. He’s the Creator who gave us the ability to procreate. Simply put…we get to extend the creation process. No doctors or scientists can actually create another human being from nothing. But when the sperm from a man fertilizes the egg of a woman (designed process), human life is extended into another human being. Simple. So simple, in fact, that it confounds the most brilliant minds as to how life began.

Scientists, who most likely don’t want there to be a Creator God, insist we must have a common ancestor. But that doesn’t explain how, for example, three little bones in the ears of mammals came to be. Claiming they’re evidence of a common ancestor requires belief in evolutionary miracles. Evolutionists say the stapes, incus, and malleus (those three little bones) evolved from bones in a reptile’s jaw. And do you have any idea how long a process of random mutation would take to evolve bones from one species into the complex arrangement of other bones in another species?

Millions of years

How long do you suppose any so-called transitional species survive with bad (evolving) ears? If you allow logic and reason to enter your heart, your gut will tell you…it wouldn’t survive. And yet evolutionists would have you believe it happened at least twice. That requires way more faith than believing a common designer created the different species.

Just like you can look at Van Gogh paintings and see similarity in design…or listen to songs by Sting and hear his style flowing through…you can look at the wide variety of species on earth and detect the Designer’s hand.

Yes, Designer babies are all around you. But you need to be able to use the logic and reason God gave you, instead of touchy feely emotions, to open your eyes to the intelligent design of all creation. If you can’t do that, I’m willing to bet it’s because you don’t want there to be a living, loving God who made us all and who will judge us all. Am I right?

Intelligent design and DNA…
Scholars can’t explain it all away.
Get ready to be awed
By the handiwork of God.

Stay tuned,

Fathers Day poems – cards, songs, and videos

Fathers Day poems songs and cards for Fathers Day 2017

Fathers Day poems don’t always
rhyme or have good reason like this one

It’s June 18, 2017, and I’m sure there are lots of Fathers Day poems going out to dads all across America. Moms and kids have found barbecue grills, fishing reels, special cards, and fun things to do for dad. And that’s all great! Still…I’d like to share my annual tribute to the Father of Life because He’s the reason any of us are here in the first place. My earthly dad went to be with the Lord over 31 years ago, but I still celebrate his life and influence with this song to the One who made us…

(video no longer available)

Share your Fathers Day poems with me…and maybe some good memories of how your dad influenced your life. Here are the lyrics to my song…

Our Father’s Day

We have eyes and ears, a heart and mind.
If we truly seek, God’s not hard to find.
As we leave this broken world behind,
Only His Truth and Love are the ties that bind.

We have hours or days or weeks or years
To be reconciled from our hopeless fears.
Think of this before your last day appears…
Only a loving God wipes away your tears.

He gives life and love and light.
Only He makes all things right.
And we’re here, so we should say”
Every day’s our Father’s Day.
With each day our daily bread…
Every thought that’s in our head…
Should illuminate the Way
Every day’s our Father’s Day.

We can see design upon His land…
Even in an unborn baby’s hand,
And when life is not the way we planned,
Only a living God helps us understand.

Global Warming is pseudoscience

Global warming sure beats freezing to death

If you pay attention to what scientists say, instead of politicians and activists, you’ll discover that global warming is pseudoscience. And I’m not talking about scientists who do government sponsored experiments on lab rats, monkeys, and bacteria. Nothing against them, but I’m talking about physicists and astronomers and biologists. As an example, watch this video of Professor Ivar Giaever, the 1973 Nobel Prizewinner for Physics, tear down the global warming “religion”.

Did you catch the part where Professor Giaever mentioned how water is much more a heat conductor than CO2? And what covers 70% of planet earth? Some sort of liquid isn’t it? Oh yeah…water!

Global warming has only increased by .8 degrees in over one hundred years.

And as the good professor pointed out, that shows an amazingly stable worldwide environment we inhabit. As a Christian (yes, that’s a religion) I also understand and trust God when he says “While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease.”

That’s just one more example, in a book of thousands of examples, of God’s love and promises for us. Humans can do, and have done, amazing things. But we’ll never be able to destroy planet earth. God will take care of creating a new heaven and a new earth when He’s through with this one. If you’re not a Christian, it might sound like a fairy tale. I get that. But if you ARE a Christian, His words should bring you comfort and wisdom. The wisdom to latch onto the Truth in the Bible and be able to see pseudoscience for what it is. Rebellion against God. Too bad, because that leads to another kind of “warming” that’s much worse than global.

Shut your mouth. Your opinion isn't welcome here, Christians.

Shut your mouth and tolerate

If you wanna make sure more bad things happen in the world, shut your mouth. And put down your pen and keep your hands off the keyboard. Just keep your narrow-minded, hard-hearted, and “religious” opinions to yourself. Otherwise, how in the world are you ever gonna learn to tolerate more and more anti God rhetoric and behavior? Huh?

Shut your mouth. Your opinion isn't welcome here, Christians.

There’s a huge amount of evidence that if you are a Christian…and if you have a tendency to stand up for what the Bible actually says…you’re gonna be censored. Not tolerated by those who shout “tolerance” and “diversity” in the public square. Your Christian opinions aren’t (and won’t be) welcome in the world of so-called “multi-culturism”. You’ll simply be ostracized with labels like bigot, racist, misogynist, homophobe, and the list goes on. So what are you to do? Simple…

Shut your mouth.

Yeah, it’s that simple. Just shut your mouth, put down your persnickety pen, and keep your hands off the computer keyboards. In other words, keep your thoughts about Jesus, God, and grace to yourself, and you’ll be an acceptable member of society. Ha!

Don’t believe that for one minute. Let me use my own timeframe here on planet earth as an example of why I say that. I’ve lived long enough to see a gigantic shift in American ideology. When I was a little boy growing up in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas, I remember hearing and seeing Christian influence even in public schools. Yes. Public schools! Then, in 1962, the so-called “supreme court” ruled on a case that effectively banned prayer from public schools. My own school, in Texas, still allowed prayer at assemblies, during the morning announcements, and at all sports activities. I challenge you to find that happening at 99.999% of schools today.

When you read the article in the link I just provided to that court decision, you’ll notice that “not a single Christian organization filed a brief in support of school prayer“. So, that proves that keeping your mouth shut leads to keeping the peace. Right? Wrong. All you have to do is dig a little bit into the news and you’ll discover how far down the ragged rabbit hole this has taken us. And all we had to was…

Tolerate.

Interestingly enough, you won’t find the word “tolerate”, or any form of it, in the Bible. That doesn’t mean for one minute we should never tolerate others who don’t think or believe like us. That’s impossible to do anyway. Every day you’ll have to tolerate the growing hatred towards Jesus and His followers. But that doesn’t mean you should shut your mouth and never speak up for your Creator. Quite the contrary.

Now, more than ever, it’s important for Christians to come to the aid of their country…their world. God’s enduring promises, mercy, and love need to be common knowledge in every nook and cranny. And you have awesome tools at your disposal. Share your thoughts and God’s word in every way you can, and you can literally broadcast it to the world via the internet. But I suggest you do it now…before God haters make sure Christians are banned from the internet.

Do you believe that could never happen?

You wanna live the way you wanna live.
And you wanna be your own king.
You think you’re wise enough to rule your world
And handle everything.
But how much happiness is in your life?
How many friends do you know
Who would give up their lives to give you yours?
Do you think any would show?

(excerpt from “You Just Don’t Get It”…listen for it on the The Power of God’s Love Podcast)

Grace to you is God's will for your life.

Grace to you – now, that’s as good as it gets

Is life tossing you monkey wrenches on a daily basis? Is your patience being tested from every angle almost every minute? Are you a Christian who’s wondering what God’s will is for you in all of it? Well, stop wondering what His will is and start reading His word. You’ll discover God’s not throwing those monkey wrenches your way. And He’s not testing your patience. In fact, the will of our God and Father, for you, is quite the opposite. He delivers grace to you. And peace. But He won’t force it on you. It’s a free gift. You can choose to open the wrapping…or not. But when you open it, you’ll find God doesn’t keep His will for you a secret. I, for one, think that’s mighty cool.

Grace to you is God's will for your life.

Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles, wrote about “the mystery” many times in his letters. But he also illustrated how easy it is to know God’s will for your life. Your daily trials, tribulations, and troubles are not part of God’s to-do list. Can you imagine how much hassle it would be for Him to have to think of ways to test seven billion people 24 hours a day?!

Troubles are part of our current human condition.

Yeah, that’s right…you and I are our own worst enemies. Well, maybe Satan is worse, but he only has the influence on us we allow. And God’s will for us is to “deliver us from this present evil age“. How do I know? I read His book. And I believe every word of it. I also understand that every word of the Bible is FOR me, but not every word is TO me. I wasn’t born a Jew, so the many sections of the Bible written to AND for the Jews aren’t TO me. But…

…all the words written by the Apostle Paul are written to AND for me…because I fall under the category of “Gentiles”. Chances are real good you do, too. Right? If so, you are one mighty fortunate person, because

God’s grace to you is free and gives you freedom.

In the Old Testament section of the Bible, God gave tons of moral and symbolic laws to the nation of Israel. They did a horrible job of keeping them even though it was still better than the rest of the world would have. I won’t go into more details about how God changed plans. Just know that changing the plan meant grace to you and me. And you no longer need to worry about whether or not you’re keeping all those laws…as long as you trust that His Son, Jesus, kept all of them for you.

So…if you’re working on your troubles with a monkey wrench today, let me encourage you to put down the wrench and pick up God’s book. Wouldn’t you rather enjoy grace and peace than the uncertainties of this world?

Grace to you is freely given.
It can change the way you’re livin’.
You can rise above your troubles,
When you let God burst those bubbles.
He revealed the Way to do it.
Jesus’ grace will get you through it.

Stay tuned,

Wanna know why most drugs are bad?

Three reasons drugs are bad

Most prescription drugs are bad for the majority of people who take them. There. I said it, and I’m not taking it back. If you’ve been reading my blog or listening to my The Power of God’s Love Podcast for any length of time, you might think this is a bit off my normal topic. But it relates because taking drugs has becomes such a way of life for millions and millions of people. And my main focus is to write and sing about Life. So, let me explain my harsh criticism of drugs.

I’ll give you three main reasons why drugs are bad, and you can simply choose to ignore me and take drugs anyway or consider the possibility that maybe there’s a better way to enjoy a healthier life.

Drugs are bad because they corrupt doctors.

Yikes! That’s quite an accusation…wouldn’t you say? But they do.

Pharmaceutical companies pay doctors (meals, talks, and travel) and then those doctors are much more likely to prescribe the drugs from those companies. Years ago, when I still trusted medical doctors with my health, I remember being given medications to “try”. Given. They weren’t added to my bill. And I never had to pay for them in any way…other than with my health that is. Have you ever experienced something like that?

Why would a medical doctor ever give you a drug and say “try it” to “see if it alleviates your symptoms”? Well, of course you can’t judge a person’s heart, but you can judge their actions. And when a doctor hands you a “free sample” of a new drug and says “try it”, you’ve just become a guinea pig. My experience was with a statin drug because my cholesterol levels were apparently too high. According to what standards? Hmm…could there be a correlation between pharmaceutical companies and acceptable levels of cholesterol? I’m just askin’.

And what’s up with that doctors-and-cholesterol thing?

I had been on a doctor recommended vegetarian diet for about 13 years. And each time I’d go to a doctor to check my cholesterol levels, the bad numbers would be higher. Finally, I heard a naturopath with his own radio program talking about the dangers of statin drugs. (I had been on one for almost a month and had already started looking like I was dying) When I met with him, and he prescribed a good cheeseburger, I could have hugged him right then and there. Immediately after leaving his office, my wife and I went for a cheeseburger. Oh man! What I had been missing! I’ve been eating meat from that day on, and my cholesterol numbers have declined.

I got off that statin drug, and about a month later I received a class-action suit notice that the drug I had been taking had been found to be killing some people. So, yes…I believe drugs corrupt doctors.

Drugs are bad because they’re easy to get on…

…and oftentimes extremely difficult to get off. My father and mother-in-law came to live my wife and me a few years ago, when we learned that my mother-in-law was being “put into hospice”. When they got to our house, we discovered that each of them was taking at least 7 to 12 medications daily. Are you kidding me?! My wife, who is a health coach, started digging in to see what each medication was for. It was a tangled web. One drug led to another. And the in-laws weren’t even aware of what each medication was for or why it was needed.

My wife took her dad to a local doctor who was able to get his meds reduced to about 4. And then, she began to feed her mom nutrient rich foods, and we saw a stunning change in her mom’s behavior and demeanor. Then, she got her medications reduced, and her mom began to walk around the house on her own…without the use of the electric mobile chair she had been “prescribed”.

Now, when I say we got their drugs reduced, I need to make clear how difficult it was to convince a doctor how necessary that was. And even after that, it was difficult for the in-laws to physically make the adjustments due to uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms. But when they stuck it out, they saw incredible improvements.

My mother-in-law passed away two years ago after some complications with drugs and a fall which mostly shattered her hip. She and her husband had moved back to Florida where they got right back on the drug merry-go-round.

Drugs are bad because they mask pain.

Pain is your body’s way (through your brain) of letting you know there’s a problem. When drugs mask the pain, your brain can’t let you know you have a problem, and most times it only gets worse…while you “feel like” you’re fine or even getting better. A prescription is not a protocol for a healthy, well-balanced life.

Not only are you masking the pain signals to your brain, when you take drugs regularly, you’re significantly reducing your mental sharpness. I just visited an elderly lady’s house yesterday to help her put on a new front door handle. As she invited me in to look thing over I noticed a variety of medications in one of those plastic pill organizers. She also had a variety of over-the-counter pills for indigestion, irregularity, and the usual suspects.

This nice lady kept stating how she “can’t remember anything”. How many times have I heard that from people on multiple prescription drugs. She wrote down everything I recommended, and then she’d ask me the same questions again and write down the same information again. I can’t begin to tell you how sad it makes me to see someone, so obviously capable otherwise, who can’t remember what she just wrote down while it’s still under the pen in her hand.

And yet, I see (and know) plenty of elderly people who are sharp as a tack, quick as a whip, and bright as a new penny. How’s that for visuals? Something I find common to those folks is either a lack of prescription drugs or at the most only one or two. I’m just a regular guy with a blog and a podcast, but even I can put two and two together.

Here’s my final word on drugs…(for now)

I’m not attempting to tell you to get off all your meds, if you’re on them. And I’m not saying ALL drugs are bad ALL the time. In fact, I benefited from a pain medication after having an operation to remove a tumor off my spinal cord near the base of my skull. But I AM saying you should consider the long-term effects of any prescriptions you’re told to take. And don’t take all those warnings on the drug commercials lightly. I know, from experience, how it only takes one of those warnings to be true for YOU to make the difference between a truly healthy life and no life.

What’s your prescription?
How do you feel?
You’re feelin’ real good?
But is the “good” real?
‘Cause medication
Can’t cure your pain.
You might ease aching,
But what will you gain
Slowing your memory
Down to a crawl?
Consider options.
Consider them all.
Your life is precious.
Give it your best.
Give yourself real foods.
Trust God for the rest.

Do you know how to have an Effective prayer life?

What does it mean to have an effective prayer life?

Are your prayers effective? Do you even know? Is there any way to know? What evidence could prove you have an effective prayer life? These are tough questions for most Christians. And if you’re not a Christian, I can guarantee you don’t have an answer to them, let alone an effective prayer life. But I’m gonna share a simple solution to knowing how to get one…and knowing when you’ve got it.

You’ll hear a lot of Christians saying you should “pray without ceasing” or “pray for a healing” or “I’ll pray that God intervenes in your life”. Those are not effective prayers. The first thing to remember about prayer is how it builds your relationship with God. It’s communication. And just like you wouldn’t say something over and over to the person standing next to you, you shouldn’t talk that way to God. He doesn’t like “vain repetitions“. Who would…right?

Next, to pray for healing or to ask God to intervene in the lives of others isn’t effective either. Because you’re asking Him to violate the laws of nature He put into motion a long time ago. He even told the Apostle Paul that His “grace is sufficient” when Paul asked him to remove “a thorn in the flesh“. God knew He would help Paul through his trials, and Paul understood how God answered his prayer above and beyond what he had asked.

An effective prayer life requires a special ingredient.

Thanks.

Yes, when you pray, you should be thanking God for all His blessings for you. It doesn’t matter what your circumstances are. And you certainly don’t have a special status exempting you from thanking God. You’re only here on planet earth because God put your soul into the egg that contained your 23 chromosomes from your mom and 23 from your dad. God gave you life. So your prayer life should always include at least one “thank you”. Sure, it’s OK to make your requests known to God. But if you’re praying for change, make it about changing you. If you’re praying for people to accept Jesus as their savior, make sure you’re asking for wisdom and knowledge to be a voice to those people.

And whether or not you see the positive answer to your prayer, thank your one true, living, loving Creator and Heavenly Father for another day of life. How many more of those do you think you can be sure of? Here are some great things to ask God to give you…

Oh give me love…give me justice…
Give me Grace and the strength to endure.
When the world comes against me,
Give me Your Spirit steadfast and sure.
(from my song “Give Me The Whole Jesus” – in an episode of the The Power of God’s Love Podcast)

Therapy Notes from a songwriter

Sharing a few therapy notes today, and…

They’re not what you might imagine when you first read that headline. I wrote down some therapy notes back in 1989, and they became one of my songs no one would like but me. And even I didn’t like it all that much. The proof of that is I don’t remember the melody. But I remember WHY I wrote it, and I’ll share that with you.

Therapy Notes from a songwriter

Let me start off by asking a question. Have you ever gone to a psychiatrist for therapy? I haven’t, but I’ve known people who have, and I’ve certainly seen enough movies and TV shows with people seeking therapy that way. When you watch one of those movies or TV shows, you’ll notice a common theme. The “patient” lies on a couch while the psychiatrist sits in a high-back leather chair taking notes.

The psychiatrist’s therapy notes are supposed to help diagnose and treat a patient.

The problem I can see with telling a doctor your deep, dark secrets…especially a typical psychiatrist who has no healthy relationship with Jesus…falls under the heading of “a fool vents his whole feelings“. If you’re sharing all your feelings with someone who doesn’t love his Creator (and many times even with someone who does), you’re taking the chance of hanging yourself out to dry. That’s an old expression meaning you’re exposed to the consequences. And just like I mentioned, yesterday, how ideas have consequences…so does venting.

All those notes the doctor takes can be like witnesses against you. If the person taking them ever wanted to turn against you for some dire reason, they have a great reference tool. And if you believe none of that could ever happen because of that whole so-called “doctor-patient confidentiality” thing, you don’t know human nature.

OK, what does all that have to do with my therapy notes?

As it turns out, I had just watched an old movie where the main character was seeing a psychiatrist for some marital or other relationship problems. The star of the movie was only one of a collection of weird characters, and it seemed like each one was trying to be weirder than everyone else. And they were all successful in their efforts.

Shortly after watching the movie, I heard a story on the evening news about how many people were seeking psychiatric “counseling”. And not long after that I read an article in the local paper about the same topic. “Hmm,” I said to myself. “I see a pattern forming.” In all of the instances there was never even a tiny mention of God. Far from it. Do you know why you should seek God with your problems? Because He can help you rise above your selfishness. In fact, His words can make you healthy.

God should be your main counsellor. Yes, He does take notes on all of us. But, for those who love Him, He wipes the slate clean and remembers the notes no more. Why would you ever to tell your story to a note taker who doesn’t do that? Here are the therapy notes I wrote about therapy after seeing the goofy characters in a movie…

Therapy

I think I’m going crazy.
I’ve got all the signs.
My hair is wild and wooly.
I’m reciting Shakespeare lines.
My favorite food’s granola,
And I thrive on herbal tea.
I think I’m going crazy.
I could use some therapy.
I think my mind is slippin’
In and out of space.
I had and out-of-body experience
In another place.
And some beings from Jupiter
Did experiments on me.
Yeah, I think my mind is slippin’.
I could use some therapy.

Therapy…let me tell you all about it.
Therapy…I need someone to relate to.
Therapy…I’ll sell my story to the paper.
Therapy…I know you’ll read it…you can hardly wait to.

I guess I’m not so crazy,
When I look all around.
It seems a lot of people
Have found what I have found.
And these days it’s so hectic
Trying to be first
To be the real bizarre one…
To be the one who’s cursed.

Ideas have consequences

Ideas Have Consequences –
For example, the idea of holiness

This quote, that appears by most references to have some from Mark Twain, just popped up on my radar again this week: “It ain’t what you don’t know that gets you into trouble. It’s what you know for sure that just ain’t so.”

And today I’m gonna share how some well-meaning (I hope) Christians have done that with the idea of holiness. It’s important to know that ideas have consequences, and those consequences, from a Christian perspective, can actually repel non-believers. So, it’s pretty important to be more in line with what God actually says rather than what it FEELS like He says.

Somebody I enjoy listening to…and whose writings are nice to read, got some highly important information wrong. If you’re a Christian, you might have heard of Max Lucado. You couldn’t ask for a more pleasant speaking voice. And I’m certain Max is genuinely concerned with the well-being of every human being he personally meets. However…

He came up with a list of seven holy things…

“That just ain’t so.”

Sorry Max, but your list of seven things God considers holy is based on feelings…not what God actually says. To begin with, sacredness and holiness are not exactly synonymous. Close…but no cigar. Something can be sacred without being holy. But what is truly holy is always sacred. OK, here’s the seven things Max says God says are holy.

  1. You
  2. Human life
  3. Marriage
  4. Sex
  5. The Sabbath
  6. The tithe
  7. The name of God

I’ll agree with 1 out of 7. Number 7. Yes, the name of God is holy because God is holy. But you are not holy. Human life is not holy (stick with me…don’t get too excited yet) Marriage is not holy. Sex and the Sabbath are not holy. And the worst of the bunch is “the tithe”. Oh my goodness, is that ever NOT holy. Now, let me elaborate.

I’m not telling you this because I simply have a difference of opinion, or because I have doctrinal differences with Max Lucado. Obviously I do, but I believe those could be easily worked out with some heart to heart discussions. Maybe.

No, I’m telling you this because ideas have consequences. AND…because God tells us what or who is holy. Right in His word. No punches pulled. And no if’s, and’s, or but’s. But I’ll get to that shortly.

Yes, ideas have consequences

When you tell people they’re holy…and God Himself doesn’t say that, you risk creating a general sense of complacency among believers and non-believers alike. After all, if you and I are holy, why did Jesus have to die for us? And if you’re telling believers they’re holy…and non-believers hear you, they’ll feel like it applies to them as well. No, you are not holy. And I’ll prove it shortly.

Human life isn’t holy. If so, what makes it unholy? Sin? How could that be. Holiness, according to people who talk about holiness on a regular basis is immutable. And since you have human life from the moment you’re conceived until the day you die, how could so many (as the Bible says…most) people end up going to hell? No, life is a precious gift from God, but human life is not holy. I’ll prove it shortly.

Marriage is not holy. Max used the term “holy matrimony” to help illustrate his point. First, that term isn’t found in the Bible. And second…again, if it was, holy how could so many marriages end in divorce. What’s holy about that? Holiness doesn’t depend on how we feel about it. It’s immutable. Remember? No, marriage isn’t holy. I’ll prove that shortly.

Hmm…sex and the Sabbath…

I’m lumping them together because they both start with “S”. And neither one is holy. Sex is sanctified for monogamous marriage. However, sanctification is not the same thing as holiness. Keeping the Sabbath holy was a command for Israel as part of The Law brought down from Mount Sinai by Moses. But when you read in Paul’s letter to the Romans, you’ll discover him saying “One man esteems one day above another…another esteems every day alike. Let each be fully convinced in his own mind.” No, the Sabbath is not holy. I’ll prove that shortly.

I can’t emphasize enough how important it is not to say the tithe is holy. Max Lucado uses a verse from Leviticus to explain the holiness of the tithe. Leviticus is once again God laying down the law with Israel. In His infinite wisdom, God chose to lay out both criminal laws and symbolic laws…because He knows, better than all of us put together, how ideas have consequences. So do laws. God doesn’t care about ten percent of your money. He wants your whole heart. There’s not a balance sheet in Heaven with a tally of who gave ten percent (or more). Or who tithed on their gross income versus who tithed on their net. Yeesh. This notion is so fraught with damaging consequences, and I’ve witnessed some of them. I won’t go deeper now, but suffice it to say, the tithe is not holy. I’ll prove it shortly.

Now…the proof I hope you’ve been waiting for…

Number 7 on the list of things Max says that God says are holy…God. Yes, God is holy. God’s holiness is immutable even though He isn’t. The one true living, loving God of creation has changed His mind, changed outcomes to many situations, changed the course of nations and kings, and even changed form from Spirit only to human flesh. And never in all the changes He has ever made or ever will make has He or will He ever be anything less than holy. And the proof that only He is holy comes from His word…given to the Apostle John by divine Revelation. So, don’t take my word for it. Read what God Himself says:

“Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy.”

It’s a great idea to read what the Bible asking God to let His true word come into you…not just what you feel like His word says, but what it actually says…because these ideas have eternal consequences for billions of people.

And who are you to judge?
Your eyes can clearly see
That you’re no holier
Than him or her or me.

So should you shut your mouth
And skip the words of Paul?
Did he misunderstand
The Lord’s enduring call?

Christians are more than conquerors

Christians are more than conquerors

If you could take a minute to try and see yourself from God’s perspective, you might get a better understanding of how Christians are more than conquerors. And that’s true because of one thing, and one thing only…

God’s everlasting Love!

In case you didn’t know, there was a guy named Paul who wrote a letter to the Romans, about 2000 years ago, telling them (the ones who were interested) about the Grace of God. And God’s grace is synonymous with His everlasting love. Paul wrote this in his letter: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” You might look at that second question and answer, “Well, almost everyone is against us.” But the point Paul is making with that question is that even if everyone IS against us…none of it compares with God who is FOR us. And God is for you the moment you trust in His Son as your savior. That’s a key point because…

His Son took your punishment.

Paul’s letter continues, “He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? See? There’s that love again. Jesus came to earth as a man to offer everlasting life to anyone who would trust Him. He put His life where His intentions were…and are. And He allowed Himself to be “conquered” by His captors so that we could be more than conquerors. Are you with me so far?

Continuing with his letter to the Romans, Paul wrote, “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Wow. That’s amazing. You have an advocate whose everlasting love makes everlasting life a reality for you. And when you choose to believe and trust in Jesus, the deal is sealed…

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?

Here’s a list of physical obstacles unable to separate you from God: “Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: ‘For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.‘ Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.”

And here’s a list of non-physical obstacles unable to separate you from God: “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.“

Are you starting to see how important it is to trust Jesus? When you do, your eternal life is sealed and secured. But, like I always say…it’s YOUR choice. No one can make the choice for you…not even God. He lets you freely choose. If you haven’t already, why would you let another day pass without choosing? You might not have tomorrow.

More than conquerors,
Or even world-beaters.
More than warriors
Or non retreaters…
We are loved with an Everlasting Love.

Now, jump on the The TRUTH. And be part of the growing band of believers who wanna show the world that life has Rhyme and Reason because God is Real.

Only fools rush in

Hmm…So only fools rush in, eh?

It’s an old expression. Only fools rush in. But rush in where? Or does it matter? Yeah, I think about old expressions. And I often wonder how they originated. This one is odd, when you think about it because, on the surface, it could sound like a put-down to some brave heroes…like soldiers, cops, and firemen. After all, they rush in where others don’t. They’re the so-called “first responders.” They rush in to dangerous places filled with bullets and blazes. Does that make them fools?

No…when someone came up with that expression…only fools rush in…they were talking about people who dive into things without consideration and contemplation and counsel. Your mom used to tell you, “Look both ways before you cross the street.”

And that’s good advice when it comes to other parts of your life. Give yourself the best chance for survival. For success. Consider the consequences of bad choices. I speak from experience.

My bad choices have made me a fool more times than I care to share with you. But, each day is an opportunity for a renewing of your mind. Each day you can get out of bed and face the world as though it’s brand new. And don’t let only fools rush in to it. You jump in too. Feet first, or headlong. Either way, don’t go in fear. Go with the power God gave you.

Don’t be like this guy…

The Foolish Side of Me

It’s hard to write a song when you’re really not enthused.
The words seem so jumbled up.
The melody seems so often used.
I’ve got to go on trying to hear and write the perfect song.
I know sometimes I’ll stay up and end up
Writing nothing all night long.
So say it!
Tell me it’s not worth it.
Tell me only fools try such things.
I don’t know
But if I am, it doesn’t always show.
It’s hard to write a song, when you really don’t know how.
The time seems to slip away, and you’re forced to face it now.
I’ve got to go on trying
And maybe I can write a pretty song.
And if I am a fool,
Maybe there are fools who’ll sing along.

How to escape a desert land

How to escape a desert land

Imagine you’re in a desert land…a terrible place with virtually no hope of getting out. No food or water or shelter. And no idea which way to go. Then, out of the blue, a ghost appears and begins leading you to food. In fact, you walk into fields of juicy, tasty produce. Not only that, but the ghost shows you how to get honey and good fats from the ground. If all that happened, wouldn’t you think you’d hit the best lottery ever?!

Well, the ghost is a real person. And the story I just told is based on a true story found in the Bible. It’s about how God took a man named Jacob and made him into a nation…Israel. The story goes like this:

“He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the Lord alone led him, And there was no foreign god with him. He made him ride in the heights of the earth, That he might eat the produce of the fields; He made him draw honey from the rock, And oil from the flinty rock…”

From a desert land to a dessert of honey

Do you believe the Bible is just a “bunch of fairy tales” or “myths” or “made up stories by delusional men”? Those are all quotes from centuries of doubters. If you’re a member of any of those categories, you’re walking alone in a desert land whether or not you know it or believe it. And that’s unimaginably sad because the road to happiness isn’t a road you take alone. Also…it’s a road paved with love and gold, and it’s a road that leads out of the wasteland and into Heaven. But no one will ever force you to go, if you don’t wanna go.

I encourage you to discover why the Bible is the bestselling book of all time. And I’m convinced that, if you read it with an open mind and heart, it will change your wilderness-roaming heart to one full of love, purpose, and focus. Not only that…it’s amazing, the power you can feel, when you KNOW you’re gonna live forever…and you know where. More than merely a metaphysical “feeling”, you’ll discover provable and tenable facts.

So…will you look into it today? And if you have and you’ve discovered the truth I’m talking about…will you share it with someone else? God loves that.

Love and Gold

Dig deep and find the treasures for your heart.
The Bible is the perfect place to start.
And as the words unfold, revealing love and gold,
The life God gave you never will depart.

Jump on the The TRUTH and be part of the growing band of believers who wanna show the world that life has Rhyme and Reason because God made us.

You are Fearfully and wonderfully made.

You and I are fearfully and wonderfully made.
Here’s scientific proof.

You’ve heard of a double helix…right? It’s the best image scientists have come up with, so far, to represent Deoxyribonucleic Acid…also known as DNA. And DNA is scientific proof you and I are fearfully and wonderfully made. Not merely carbon copies of carbon lifeforms. Even the term “carbon lifeforms” contradicts itself. But anyway…let me share some tidbits of information about information that’s inside you right now.

In almost all of the 30,000,000,000,000 (that’s trillion, by the way) cells in your body there are duplicate copies of your DNA. Each human cell contains 46 segments. You got 23 segments from your mom and 23 from your dad. No one else on Earth has the same DNA as you. Cool, huh? And the information in the DNA is like a blueprint for how to build you. Only you!  How you’ll look, much of how you’ll act, and how every cell in your body will function during your life.

And being fearfully and wonderfully made gets even more interesting.

If you took out all the DNA from one of your cells and uncoiled it…then you connected, and stretched out, it would be about 6 feet long. But It would be so thin you couldn’t see it. Not even with the most powerful microscope in existence today. The coded information found in just one cells could fill a library with somewhere around 4,000 books. And if you took all the DNA in your body and stretched it out end-to-end, you could go to the moon and back more than 165,000 times. Impressive, wouldn’t you say? Well, how about this…?

The information found in your DNA could fill the Grand Canyon almost 30 times, if you put it in books. And yet…you could take one set of DNA from one cell of every person who ever lived, put them all in a spoon, and they’d weigh less than an aspirin. When you ponder the power of the scientific discoveries we’ve made so far, you should begin to get a sense of how fearfully and wonderfully made you truly are.

Isn’t it more comforting to know you’re made instead of just an accident?

No matter what you believe about how life got here, you’re choosing to believe it. No one (at least virtually no one) is being forced to believe how we all got here. My question is this. Why would you want to believe you’re just the random result of trillions of mutations? Especially when there’s so much information inside you to the contrary. You’re an information-based life form. And the fact that so much information is coded into your DNA proves there must be a super coder. The good news is…that coder loves you. He made you a human being made in His image and likeness. And He allows you to choose to love Him back…or not. Choose wisely.

You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
There is information locked inside your cells.
When you choose to discover why you’re here,
You’ll find out what the information tells.

And you’ll see you’re not just an accident
Fumbling through the hours, and days, and weeks, and years.
All the evidence is pointing out the way.
Trust your Maker. He’ll erase your doubts and fears.

It's a good idea to start redeeming the time while you're still alive.

Is it worth your while to be
redeeming the time you have?

What does redeeming the time you have left even mean? After all, time isn’t like stamps. Or coupons. You can’t just make more time like you can those things. Or can you?

It's a good idea to start redeeming the time while you're still alive.

I remember, when I was a young boy, my mom would save S&H Green Stamps. They were stamps a shopper would get at stores, gas stations, or just about anywhere housewives shopped. Yes, I know the term “housewives” might be politically incorrect…but it wasn’t back then. Ah…the good ol’ days.

Anyway…when a woman saved enough Green Stamps, she could redeem them for all sorts of household items she found in the S&H catalog. It was like free money. I remember my mom talking with her friends and family about some clock radio or dish set she just got with her stamps. It made for fun, and sometimes lively, conversation. And they’d share the news of when double stamps were being offered at the local grocery store. Then, bam! Next thing you know there would be a grocery store trip planned.

Redeeming the time is sort of like redeeming stamps.

You might not think you could redeem time and get something “for free”. But you can. Know what you get? More time. Yeah, I don’t mean you can turn 24 hour days into 30 hour days. But you can buy more time by making good use of the time you have here on planet Earth. In fact, you can buy time that never runs out. How cool is that?!

But you gotta do something more than just sitting around biding or saving your time. You’ve got to redeem it. How do you do that? If you’re a Christian, you gotta “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” That’s becoming increasingly difficult to do because more and more the world doesn’t wanna hear the name Jesus brought up under any circumstances. So, it’s important to emphasize the “grace” and “salt” part.

I’m trying to do that here on my blog. I’m redeeming the time I have left by sharing God’s enduring message of eternal life with anyone who cares to listen and/or read. I’ll be sharing a song about that in an upcoming episode of the The Power of God’s Love Podcast. So watch and listen for that. In the meanTime…are you paying attention to the clock?

All I want is some time to hold in my arms.”  ~Tony Funderburk

It might be time for you to give up.

It’s time to give up

If you’ve been following my blog for any length of time…or listening to my The Power of God’s Love Podcast, you know I don’t believe in quitting. Even when life is so tough you just don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. In fact, it might be so dark, you can’t even tell if you’re in a tunnel. I always recommend you don’t give up…because you have the strength of the Creator of the universe you can turn to…if you only will. But today is different. Today, I’m going another way…

It might be time for you to give up.

I’m sure you know about the term “emotional baggage”. Right? It’s easy to start collecting that stuff once you’ve developed more than a couple of relationships in life. Especially the kind of relationships between men and women. When those don’t go well or last, it’s easy to blame all subsequent failed relationships on the bad one. But that’s a terrible thing to do. It keeps you from experiencing what could be in store for you, if and when you let love rule your heart. And today, I wanna urge you to give up any emotional baggage you might be carrying and begin to “love your neighbor” again. Don’t be surprised when they love you back. It’s not a guarantee, but it’s the best formula. How do I know? It comes from God. Will you start today? Here are some lyrics to help you remember…

Give Up That

Give up that cold, blank stare.
Give up that heavy heart.
Give up that cocky walk.
Give up and make a new start.

Everybody knows you; how you’ve always been.
That doesn’t mean you can never change your ways.
There’s just no use in waiting,
Spending time anticipating.
Don’t you know these ARE the future days?

(repeat chorus)

You could climb a mountain or parasail into the clouds,
Or you could watch them every night on pay TV.
Do you wanna feel the rush of life
As it goes flying by?
Or do you wanna block it out and never see?

(repeat chorus)

Take a chance. Surprise yourself.
It can only hurt a little while.
Take a chance. Revive yourself.
You might find you like the way it makes you smile.

Click or tap on these links to the topics I talk about in this week’s podcast…

  • How a lingerie ad can tell a great story

This podcast episode brings those topics together for those of you who’d rather listen than read. Thanks for tuning in. And by the way…this week’s episode includes a completely unannounced song. You’ll have to subscribe or tune in here on my website to hear it.

Use one or more of the links I’ve provided to share with anyone and everyone you know. Oh yeah, when you get a minute, please leave me a review on iTunes. Here’s the easy link. And don’t forget to get your free music and book if you haven’t already. Look over there in the sidebar .
