Sing the blues if you pay your own dues

As I write this, it’s quickly turning into a Friday night out there in the big, bad world. And once again I’ll be stayin’ in. No bar-hoppin’ or country-clubbin’ or dive-dippin’ again this week. So, here I sit. All I can do is sing the blues about where I’m not goin’. And who I’m not seein’. And what I’m not doin’. I can also … The rest of the story…

Spiders and snakes. That ain't what it takes.

Jim Stafford co-wrote and recorded a really stupid song called “Spiders and Snakes” way back in the 20th century. I don’t like the song. But I agree with his lyrics. “I don’t like spiders and snakes.” Yeah, that’s a big ten four (that’s CB language for I totally agree) good buddy. I definitely do NOT like those species. And, yes, I will kill them … The rest of the story…

Melancholy art with a part from the heart

Several years ago I shared an old love song I wrote. It wasn’t for anyone in particular. I guess it was sort of a culmination of feelings and thoughts from different relationships. But I’d be willing to bet this melancholy art is a reflection of more than just MY experiences. I’m sharing the lyrics to this melancholy art, down below. And I’m gonna share … The rest of the story…

Tuesday blessings in a song. Has it really been that long?

It’s Monday, as I write this. But today marks a sad day that happened 14 years ago. It was sad for those who had to say goodbye. But my guess is, it was a glorious day for one person. And it was a day that added to a chain of days I’d watched that inspired me to write a song about the Tuesday blessings … The rest of the story…

Cellular biology was designed for you and me

It’s so sad that so many people believe you can kill a little boy or girl just because of how they look or where they live. And I mean the very youngest boys and girls. The most innocent boys and girls. The boys and girls who can’t even fight for themselves. Can’t even say a word. And, of course, I mean the tiny boys … The rest of the story…

Make up stuff if you're foolish enough

Habitual liars just make up stuff as they go along. I think we can all agree on that. Right? But what we might not agree on are the lies. Most everyone who subscribes to my blog, emails, The Power of God’s Love Podcast, YouTube channel, or social media profiles has similar worldviews. But maybe you’re different. Maybe you’ll be the one who disagrees with … The rest of the story…

How Great Thou Art is from the heart

When I led the praise and worship music, at a church in the greater Denver area, I made sure to include old hymns. Because so many of those “old songs” have such meaningful depth. And one of them has remained so popular, through the years, it was even sung by Elvis. How Great Thou Art was originally written back in the 1800’s. I kept … The rest of the story…

Everlasting art engraved on your heart

When I was a mere lad, back in the ol’ country (America, pre-lamebrainian era), the only people who had tattoos were some servicemen and hardcore bar rats. And you just didn’t see the average Joe or Jane with that “unspeakable” everlasting art on their bodies. Fast forward into the present, and Katy bar the door. Everlasting skin art is everywhere. Men. Women. Young. Old. … The rest of the story…

Sacred Earth has no inherent worth

The world (defined as all the people and their cultures) would have you (translate: now force you to) believe you live on a sacred Earth. And they’d prefer you didn’t disparage, in any way, the god they worship. And that’s all while they want you to shut up about your God. Well, that is, if your God is the one who created their “sacred … The rest of the story…

Music duos come and go. Different views can make it so.

This week, back in 1979, I lived and worked in Houston, Texas. My brother and I had established ourselves as one of the more popular music duos. And we had fans we could depend on to come see us as we performed all around the city. It was quite an experience for me. Actually making a living playing live music. But my brother and … The rest of the story…
