Reasons For Faith Numbers 7 and 8

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 19, 2014 by TonyFebruary 24, 2025
Reasons For Faith 7 and 8

The two reasons for faith I’m sharing with you today are about love and a small voice. These lyrics are to songs 7 and 8 on the “Raise The Praise” CD I just made available in the past week.

I hope the words and music encourage you to remain hopeful, in the joy of the Lord, this Christmas and throughout the year. If anything strikes a chord, be sure and let me know. And please share with your friends and family.

#7) Our Father’s Day

We have eyes and ears, a heart and mind.
If we truly seek, God’s not hard to find.
As we leave this broken world behind,
Only His Truth and Love are the ties that bind.

We have hours or days or weeks or years
To be reconciled from our hopeless fears.
Think of this before your last day appears…
Only a loving God wipes away your tears.

He gives life and love and light.
Only He makes all things right.
And we’re here, so we should say…
Every day’s our Father’s Day.
With each day our daily bread…
Every thought that’s in our head…
Should illuminate the Way
Every day’s our Father’s Day.

We can see design upon His land…
Even in an unborn baby’s hand,
And when life is not the way we planned,
Only a living God helps us understand.

And here’s the second one of these two reasons for faith

#8) Still Small Voice Inside

Gotta go make some noise
and go drinkin’ out with the boys.
And maybe I’ll watch TV.
It all really sounds good to me.
And where’d I put my guitar?
In the back of my muscle car.
I’m gonna rock some rock n roll…
Jam the music into my soul.

‘Cause I hear a voice all day, and it just won’t go away.
Ain’t no place I can hide from that still small voice inside

Cheerin’ for my football team on the high def satellite stream
Yellin’ when they mess up bad.
Got a runnin’ bet with my dad.
Saturdays in my yard, you can see I really do work hard.
And then I buzz to the video store
And rent maybe two or three more.

‘Cause I hear a voice all day, and it just won’t go away.
Ain’t no place I can hide from that still small voice inside

Still small voice inside me sayin’…
Boy you know you’re only playin’.
Still small voice inside me askin’…
What’s with all the pain you’re maskin’?
Still small voice inside me killin’…
Everything that once was thrillin’…
No, there ain’t no place to hide
From that still small voice inside.

Reasons For Faith Numbers 9 and 10

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 18, 2014 by TonyFebruary 24, 2025
Reasons For Faith # 9 and #10

Christmas is quickly sneaking up on us, and I’ve been counting down the last few days with what I call “Reasons For Faith”.

You may have noticed I’ve shared my reasons in the form of lyrics from songs I produced on my “Raise The Praise Volume 1” CD. Today I’m continuing with reasons number 9 and 10. That’s so the numbers work out to end with the last one on Christmas Eve. I hope you enjoy today’s lyrics. Be sure and check out the demo clips to all these songs at this link: Raise The Praise   More to come…

#9) Because I Can Love

What made You think
That I was worth the risk You took?
What made You take the time
To write Your Holy Book?
I don’t believe I’d give myself a second look,
But You did because You love.

You made a world
That was as perfect as could be,
But then I broke it
When You gave it all to me…
By going through the gate You made to set me free.
This You did because You love…me.

Because You love me so…in spite of all You know…
Because You did the most that You could ever do…
Because I clearly see…evidence of You in me…
Because I can love…I do love…You!

You put a life
And a will inside my soul.
You knew true love
Would be to give me full control.
But knowing You is all that ever makes me whole.
I trust You because You love…me.

I can live because You live!
I can love because You love!

#10)  Consequential Servitude

God looked down on me…He knew I was wrong…
Usurped my position I held for so long.
Yeah, He just took over…where my brain left off.
He knew it was risky…He knew they’d all scoff.
Sometimes I’m so stupid, and so often blind…
Trade reason for feelings; mistakes underlined.

And so again; I behold the outer man
Through God’s condescending attitude,
And I defer to the perfect Architect
And this consequential servitude.

He spirals His thoughts…through my barricade.
He knows I am feeble…yet hands me His blade.
He tells me to rise up…from my Phoenix blight.
He builds me a fortress of conquering Light.
When my clay is brittle…and crumbles to sand
I long to be putty…in my Master’s hand…

And then I can behold the inner man
Through God’s condescending attitude.
Because He chose me as His dwelling place
I choose this consequential servitude.

There were no incantations, no hallelujah chorus
He succumbed to His detractors; withstood an inquisition…
And then commended His spirit, relinquished His position,
And then He died a death that was for us!

Repeat 1st verse and 2nd chorus…end

Reason For Faith 11

Most Christians will tell you there are virtually limitless reasons for having faith in the saving Grace of Jesus. Maybe you have your own. If so, send me a message, and I’ll share it here if you’re willing. In these last few days leading up to Christmas 2014, I’m sharing some of my reasons. And I’ve been using the lyrics and songs from my Raise The Praise CD to illustrate. It’s sort of a countdown, not in order of importance…just reverse order of the songs. Today’s reason for faith is #11. And it’s called…

Your Body Your Blood

Lord, I let You down,
So Lord I’m awfully glad
You loved me anyway…
You gave up all You had.
I fail here in the flesh…
This flesh that pulls me down,
And yet You say I’ll have
An imperishable crown.

I’m so relieved…my spirit has received
The only One who saves my sinful soul.
You died for me…and did so willingly.
Your body…Your blood has made me whole.
(repeat)

Lord, You lift me up,
And Lord You make me fly
Above this fallen world
Into Your Grace on high.
Forever in Your debt,
You paid the highest price.
I know I don’t deserve
How I get to be born twice.

repeat chorus 4 times to end

Reason For Faith #12

If you need a reason for faith instead of empty promises and stuffy traditions, you couldn’t do better than having faith in Jesus. I’ll explain…

Jesus lived out His life on earth as a sinless man. At about the age of 30 He began a three year ministry that included teaching, admonishing, healing, and even raising people from the dead. But more importantly than all those amazing things…He endured a horrible death, beaten to a pulp and nailed to a cross. An agonizing, painfully slow death…even after being found innocent.

Jesus wasn’t simply “a good man”, or “a nice teacher”, or “a humble prophet”. He was Truth…God with us. He was the manliest of men. And yet He was the gentlest of all. He took on human flesh in order that He could endure, in our place, the death we all deserve. He said, “Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth…” Yet, the only peace that ever existed on earth was in His body and presence.

He showed us how we need to love one another. And He led by example. Since there is no greater love than to “lay down one’s life for his friends”, Jesus is the ultimate reason for faith. And that’s why I say…

Give Me The Whole Jesus

Oh give me love…give me justice…
Give me Grace and the strength to endure.
When the world comes against me,
Give me Your Spirit steadfast and sure.

Give me words…give me courage…
Give me time and a powerful voice.
And when many still may hate me,
Give me Your love and I’ll always rejoice.

Give me the whole Jesus;
The whole Good Lord…
The One who shields the child…
The One who wields the sword.
Give me the whole Jesus
Son of God and man…
‘Cause only Jesus saves…
And only Jesus can! Only Jesus can! Only Jesus can!

Then give me dreams…give me wisdom…
Give me peace at the end of my days.
And give me life…everlasting…
In Your world and in Your higher ways.

Chorus

Raise The Praise

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 15, 2014 by TonySeptember 21, 2022
Raise The Praise offer

I’ve just had a great time putting together a collection of praise and worship songs called “Raise The Praise Volume 1”. Here’s a demo of the 12 songs you’ll get…

Most of the time, here on my website, I talk, sing, and write about the things I think you’ll find helpful. And yes…I share from an unabashedly Christian perspective. And most of the time I hardly mention my books and music for sale. But, like anybody working to pay the bills I have to talk shop once in a while. I hope you won’t mind if I do that today, and for a little while.

I’ll be sharing the lyrics here in my articles. In fact, some of the lyrics have been published in some previous articles. But I’ll post ’em again. Get the 12 songs on CD for $12 and the downloadable version for $7.97

Just pick your favorite way to get songs and click or tap to get ’em.

As always…I’d love to hear your feedback. I hope they bless you as much as they did me as I wrote them. And I hope they encourage you to “Raise The Praise” to your living, loving Creator.

Going From First To Last

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 14, 2014 by TonyDecember 30, 2021
Going From First To Last is part of a perfect plan.

Imagine you’re a runner in the 1 mile event at the track and field competition in the Olympics. You’ve trained, most of your life, with every ounce of energy and determination you could muster. You’ve placed first in all your local, regional, and national events, and you’re expected to win this event by a record-setting margin. And now you’re ready to give it your all and live up to the expectations. They line you and the other runners up. Everyone kneels. The starting gun fires, and you’re off like a bolt of lightning. Then, the weirdest thing happens. You start off far out in front. Suddenly you go from first to last, and no matter how hard you try…you lose. But…

…the crowd cheers. They rush to the field to where you stand, bewildered. They lift you up on their shoulders, chanting your name, and carry you completely around the track. For some unexplainable reason you’ve become their champion…even though you came in dead last. To the rest of the world you’re a loser. But to these onlookers it’s almost like you’re king of the world.

What just happened?

Typically going from first to last does mean failure. But there’s one way it will be part of a successful plan. And that’s the plan God has to eventually bring this world back to life…His Life. And God isn’t a do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do kind of Creator. He led by example.

Jesus went from first to last when He left His place in Heaven and humbled Himself “even to the point of death“. Imagine being God…eternal, undying Spirit who could not die or be killed…and then taking on human flesh so you could be killed. And imagine doing that to help your friends.

To an unbelieving world He looked like a complete and utter failure. But to a few He became the King of the world. One day He’ll come back and be the true and actual King of the world. And He’ll show how many who were first shall be last…and many who were last shall be first. Jesus can and will make things right…truly right. So, if you’re feeling like a loser, look up. Your Creator can turn your failures into a successful eternal life.

Read about the beautiful birth of a song.

The Birth Of A Song

Read about the beautiful birth of a song.

Ok…listen closely, now, as I open the door to my roll-top desk…sssklunk. Next, I slide out the drawer that holds my pencils…shoop. Then I grab some paper. But this isn’t drawing paper. And it’s not wrapping paper, or newspaper, or even plain ol’ writing paper. Nope…this is magical paper. It doesn’t look like regular paper. It has more lines going across each page. And these lines are the keys to the magic.

Take a closer look. There are five lines, then some space, then five more lines, then some more space. And the lines go all the way down to the bottom of the page. Each line has a secret name. But since we’re friends…lean a little closer, and I’ll whisper their names in your ear.

The bottom line is called E. The next line up is called G. The next line’s name is B. And the last two are known as D and F. You might think it’s funny to have a letter for a name. But each time any one of them hears his name, he nearly leaps off the page to be noticed. They each have a job to do, and they do it with all their might.

Let’s not forget the spaces in between each of these special lines. They have secret names, too, which I’ll share with you right now. The bottom space is called F. The next space is called A. The third space is named C. And the top space is known as E. And the spaces work just as hard as the lines. Together, the lines and spaces make a big, happy magical family.

And here is where the magic starts to happen. Remember I said they all have jobs to do? Well, they have to hold things. Watch as I draw some black dots on each of the lines and in each of the spaces. Pay attention as I add up and down lines to some of the dots. Then I add funny looking squiggly lines to some of those. When I do this all the way across the lines and spaces, I can go down to the next lines and spaces and add more dots and squiggly lines. It’s like I’m writing a secret note. In fact we’ll call every one of these dots a note. This is starting to get fun. But the best part is still to come.

Once I fill up the page with dots and other silly shapes, guess what I can do next. I can hand my magical paper to a piano player. Yep, you heard me right. The piano player looks at the paper, tilts his head a little to one side, and sets the paper on his shiny, black baby grand piano. You’ve seen a piano before, haven’t you?

In case you didn’t know, pianos are magical, too. They have keys to unlock the secret notes I wrote on the paper. Shh, wait a second…I think I just saw the piano player’s eyebrows crinkle up a little. He’s studying the secret notes on the magical paper to see which key opens which note. He gently reaches down and taps one of the slick, white keys with one of his long, slender fingers. Clink…did you hear that?

One of the notes just popped open and a beautiful sound escaped. Oh listen, now the piano player is using all of his fingers to tap all the keys and open all the secret notes. Some of them ring out together. Others sing out alone. The secret notes are not a secret anymore. They float into the air for everyone to hear…a second or two…then fade away.

Do you have any idea what just happened? When we drew the ordinary black dots and squiggly lines on the lines and spaces of the magical paper, they became a song. You got to see the birth of a song. A song goes through your ears into your brain and your heart. And, like love, it can live there for the rest of your life. Now that’s truly magical.

I saw the sign with this heart of mine

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 12, 2014 by TonyDecember 13, 2021
I Saw The Sign of God's love, and I'm glad I chose that road.

Yes, when I was thirteen, I saw the sign my Grandmother had been telling me about for years. And at last the sign made sense to me. The signpost was in the shape of a cross, and I’ve never been sorry I took that “road less traveled” and followed where the sign led me. But…

…I won’t begin to try to tell you I never took any side roads. There were plenty. Even at this time of my life I wonder off into the briars and thorns. After a few cuts and slices I hurry back to the road to continue my journey.

This “road” I’m talking about is my walk with my Heavenly Father. Jesus is always there to put His arm over my shoulder and comfort and instruct me about my misguided selfish deeds. When you get right down to it, all sins originate in selfishness. Self says “I want this” and “I deserve that”, and as I’ve said many times…self never gets enough.

You may have noticed we’re less than two weeks away from Christmas. Unless you’ve been inside a dark cave with no communication tools for the past two months you know the biggest “shopping season” of the year is in full bloom. What’s so sad is how many Americans (and people elsewhere in the world) don’t really know or acknowledge why this phenomenon even happens. If you’re a business owner, and this time of year gets you “back in the black”, you can thank Christianity and Christians.

A prophet named Isaiah wrote about the birth of Jesus approximately 700 years before He was born. He said “the Lord Himself will give you a sign“. And he also said “the virgin shall conceive and bear a child, and shall call His name Immanuel”.

If that prophecy had not come true, Isaiah would have simply been one more nut case, and I doubt anyone would even know who he was or remember him anymore. But that prophecy came true. And many, many more as well. I saw the sign Isaiah talked about when I was a very young boy. Maybe 4 or 5. My Grandmother made sure my brother and I would go to church, and each week she’d nudge me to “go give your life to Jesus”.

Like I said…when I was thirteen, I took Grandmother’s advice and made the decision to  follow Jesus. He is the sign, pointing the Way to eternal life. But He doesn’t force anyone to go. He beckons. He doesn’t belittle. And He asks. He doesn’t demand. And He loves. He doesn’t lie.

If you’re looking for a sign…an answer to the problems of your life and to the troubles of the world…stop looking and start loving. Your Creator is waiting.

This Is Not A Heavenly Country

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 11, 2014 by TonySeptember 10, 2021
A Heavenly Country is where I'll live forever.

America is an amazing place. It has always been a place of refuge for refugees…a land of opportunity for anyone willing to go for it. If you’ve ever driven across it, you know how beautiful it is…from vast plains of crops and grasslands to purple mountain majesty to shining seas. Yep, America is still the best place on earth to live…but it isn’t a heavenly country.

A Heavenly Country is where I'll live forever.

Maybe you’ve heard a Christian say “this is my country, but it’s not my home”. Or maybe you’ve said something similar yourself. And once you’ve accepted your Creator God as your savior, you’ve just decided that your home will be in Heaven. The writer of the book of Hebrews calls this “a heavenly country“.

Getting to that heavenly country can only be achieved by the loving grace of God. But it does require something on your part…

Faith.

Faith in things you’ve seen isn’t much faith. But faith in things you’ve never seen…now that’s faith with a capital F. The Bible says “faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen“.

Do you believe only in things you can detect with your five senses? If so, then you may lack hope. And which one of your five senses explains truth, love, or life? Maybe you explain our existence with the evidence you’ve seen in the fossil record. But that doesn’t explain life. Maybe you explain morality as a necessity for perpetuating a culture. But that doesn’t explain love.

Truth and love and life would not exist apart from the Creator God. And that’s because nothing would exist apart from Him. If there was no uncaused first cause, there wouldn’t be a second cause…or any of the other seemingly infinite causes and effects. God is uncaused because He is the only sovereign, supernatural being. The rest of us are His creations. And…

…wherever He is, there is life. And life with God is eternal. If you choose to live with Him, that is. When you do, and I suggest you do if you haven’t already, you will have a home in a heavenly country. Then you’ll understand why America (or any other country on Earth) is simply where you live and work and love until you go home for good. Here’s to home.

Tony Funderburk Posted on December 10, 2014 by TonyApril 4, 2024
My Sacrifice Is Puny compared to what Jesus did for us all.

When I realize the fullness of the sacrifice Jesus made to be sure I had a way to live forever, my sacrifice in this life is puny in comparison. And yet, He offers me an “imperishable crown” for running this race in His name.

My sacrifice for serving, writing and singing about, and loving Jesus might include verbal insults, mocking, or some other persecution. But that’s not even worthy to be compared to suffering a horrible, tortuous death even after being found innocent.

The Bible says God “became flesh and dwelt among us“. Think about that for a second. Can you imagine living forever in time past as a spirit being? Then, can you imagine being willing to take on human flesh in order to be put to death for the sins of all? Then, can you imagine how it must feel to know you’ll forever be a flesh and bone being? No…you can’t imagine. No one can.

Since we can barely apprehend the enormity of God’s sacrifice (and not comprehend it), we should be so grateful and humbled to know we have a living God who loves us so much, He was willing to lay down His life.

I hope you’ll think on that today. And I hope you’ll take a moment to stop and thank God simply for loving you that much. And if you don’t believe there’s a real God who loves you that much, then I hope you’ll seek more information before it’s too late. I’ll be glad to help any way I can. In the meantime, here are the lyrics to one of my praise and worship songs. You can listen to the song by clicking on the link below the words.

Your Body Your Blood

Lord, I let You down,
So Lord I’m awfully glad
You loved me anyway…
You gave up all You had.

Your kids will love to go to Dreamtown in these lullaby songs from writer singer illustrator Tony Funderburk

Do you remember that old rhyming prayer that starts out “now I lay me down to sleep…I pray the Lord my soul to keep”? It’s part of what inspired one of my lullaby songs.

When I started to write this song, I thought about how I used to feel when I wished the day wasn’t over. And then I thought about what I might have been thinking when I was even younger. And then I made those thoughts rhyme so I could add them to my Lullabye Bye project. Simple, eh?

Well…not simple…but I was incredibly blessed to have 10 nice lullabies flow out of me in 10 days. Here are the lyrics to “Now I Lay Me Down”. And below them you’ll see the link to my music player where you can listen to it or play it for your toddler to sleep by. Pleasant dreams…

Now I Lay Me Down

I wish the day would never end…
So maybe I will just pretend
I’m going to my secret place
Where darkness won’t conceal my face.
I’m just gonna lay down…lay down and think.

Or maybe if I think real fast
This sleeping time will soon be past.
Then I’ll be free to fly around
And fill the air with happy sound.
I’m just gonna try it…try it and see.

Now I lay…lay me down
Blink and wink, my dreams come and take me.
Now I lay…lay me down
If I’m gone too long, come and wake me.

But I don’t really want to go.
There must be some way, do you know
To stay awake both day and night
Let’s think on it with all our might.
Yeah, we should just lay down…lay down and think.

Chorus

When you can see the light of God's love shining down on you, there ain't no dark.

When you can see the light of God’s love shining on you, there ain’t no dark. And there ain’t no black hole in your heart…ever again. But it requires some faith on your part. However…it’s not like the blind faith required to believe in evolution or some other silly notion of our origin. Faith in God is substantive. There is more evidence proving His existence than there is to prove yours.

When I see pessimism, anger, selfishness, public lying, government thievery, and so many other of this world’s troubles, I know what’s missing.

God.

If you believe what’s “right for you” or what’s in your heart is (or should be) the ruling force for your life, you’re going to experience darkness on an epic scale. It may not come today or tomorrow, but it’s coming.

I can’t imagine a life without the Creator of Life. I hate to think about what a dismal battle I’d have with my own consciousness, if I thought I only had a dark nothingness to look forward to at the end of this life. But maybe that’s just me. Maybe I’m just one of those dorky people who wants there to be eternal hope. So maybe I’m just fooling myself into believing there’s a living, loving Creator God.

Maybe.

But maybe the overwhelming evidence I’ve found is true. Maybe my faith isn’t misplaced. Maybe this living, loving God I’m always writing and singing about really exists. And maybe He’s made a beautiful way for me to live forever. Maybe I really do see the Light of Truth because it’s real.

If that’s true…and I’m staking my eternal destiny on it…then I can only die once and where I’m going is paradise because…

There Ain’t No Dark

Pessimistic inclinations; oh statistical emotions
Don’t try it, don’t buy it
It won’t look good anyhow
Problematic imperfections…oh they’re fishes in the oceans
Just face it and erase it;
You could change the whole world now

There ain’t no dark when you can see the light
And there ain’t no black hole in your heart
Prepare your eyes for the never-ending sunrise
There ain’t no…there ain’t no…there ain’t no dark

Artificial illumination; oh perpetual solutions,
Don’t make ’em; don’t take ’em; they won’t get you anywhere.
Symbolism over substance; wise up to that old pollution.
Take it higher; chase the liar; show the world you really care

Chorus

No matter what they do or say
You and I can win today
Just live like there ain’t no…
‘Cause there really ain’t no dark

There are (and have been) so many men who want to own and rule this world. So many who would be king of the world…king of the universe. None of them ever succeeded. None of them ever will. It may appear they did or have…but only for the briefest of time. When you consider eternity, time without end, a couple of decades here on earth is barely even a vapor. So considering no one ever holds onto the power, have you considered who really owns this world? I’ll let you in on a poorly kept secret…

…my Father owns it.

Yep, He’s the one who really owns this world.

it’s that pesky Christian talking about his “Father God” again. Well, if I’m wrong, then you can spend eternity making fun of me. I’ll deserve it. But if I’m not wrong, then this is God’s world. He thought it up. He designed it. And He created it. He even broke it once and let the waters of the deep cover about 70% of the Earth’s surface. And the reason He broke it…and the reason it’s so spiritually and emotionally broken now…is because He has some bad renters.

But one day, maybe soon, He’s gonna come back and kick out the bad property managers, lay down a just set of rules for the renters, and restore His property. Then, don’t be surprised if He just tears it all down and builds something all new and even more spectacular.

I hope you’re part of the family before this all happens. I’d love to talk to you about it one day…either here and now or in Heaven. In the meantime, here’s an old hymn that talks about who really owns this world…

This Is My Father’s World

This is my Father’s world,
and to my listening ears
all nature sings, and round me rings
the music of the spheres.
This is my Father’s world:
I rest me in the thought
of rocks and trees, of skies and seas;
His hand these wonders wrought.

This is my Father’s world,
the birds their carols raise,
the morning light, the lily white,
declare their Maker’s praise.
This is my Father’s world:
He shines in all that’s fair;
in the rustling grass I hear Him pass;
He speaks to me everywhere.

This is my Father’s world.
O let me ne’er forget
that though the wrong seems oft so strong,
God is the ruler yet.
This is my Father’s world:
why should my heart be sad?
The Lord is King; let the heavens ring!
God reigns; let the earth be glad!

Because I can love, I DO love...Jesus.

Rocks can’t love. If one of them falls on another, they don’t get into a fight. Trees don’t love. If one of them is uprooted by a storm, you’ll never see the others giving a memorial service. But I can love. And because I can love I know there is a living, loving God who designed me that way.

You don’t have to be alone in this world. Ever! You don’t have to wander through your own wilderness of doubt, fear, and frustration. You can if you want to, but you don’t have to. You’re a completely unique human being. You were designed, by God, with your own will, your own fingerprints, and your own DNA. You can choose.

When I think about how incredible the gift of love is, I know that because I CAN love, I do love. And because I know God gave me the freedom to CHOOSE to love Him, I do.

You can choose to love yourself above all others, but I really don’t believe you’ll be eternally pleased with yourself for having done so. That’s why I encourage you to look at God’s word. Read what He says about how much He loves you. He laid down His earthly life for you…and me. That’s why I wrote this song…

Because I Can Love

When you discover the truth of Jesus, you may say "I Have To Believe".

Have you ever heard someone say “you Christians created a god because you need a crutch?” I’ve heard that, or something like it, many times. And my response to that is… “Yep, I sure do!” And so does everyone else. The difference between believers and unbelievers is the kind of crutch. Once I discovered God loves me…and once I discovered the mountains of evidence of His existence I knew I have to believe.

I can’t imagine living in a world where no hope of eternity exists. Even if the accounts of Jesus, found in the Bible, were just fairy tales, I’d still want to believe that. Wouldn’t you like to believe this messed up world isn’t all there is? Wouldn’t you prefer to have hope springing from your heart like a fountain of crystal clear water? Wouldn’t you prefer to know and understand you’re actually designed by a loving God instead of just some serendipitous combination of electricity and goo?

All you need to do is look into the evidence a little deeper…with a mind open to new information…and a heart open to eternal love. And pray to the God who listens to ask Him into your heart and change your eternal dwelling place. I whole-heartedly trust that when you do, He will, and you’ll also say…

I Have To Believe

I can hear my heart, but I just can’t feel my life.
I can feel You cut, but I just can’t see the knife.
You slip Yourself inside of me
To show me what I’m meant to be;
Unlock me with Your golden key;
Protect me from the wizardry
Of this world far below.

I can feel Your love; though I never see Your face,
And whenever I’m alone, You still fill the empty space.
I never have to reach for You.
You always seem to pull me through.
You do the things that I can’t do;
Not even if I wanted to…not even if I tried.

And I have to believe…You did everything for me.
‘Cause what I have to believe
Is the truth that sets me free (repeat)

You must know my dreams
Because you’re making them all come true.
I know that You’re the One
Because no one could but You.
Your steady hand is always near.
With perfect love You conquer fear.
You brush away the dark veneer,
And suddenly it’s all so clear which way I should go.

Hang in there, Christians. It's worth it...we win.

You’re a Christian in a post-Christian world. Even America is turning her back on you and your faith. You’re ridiculed, mocked, and even persecuted because you dare say Jesus is the only way to eternal life with God. How dare you be so “exclusive” and “polarizing”. Yep, it’s not easy to follow the teachings of Jesus and his apostles anymore. So, what’s a Christian to do? Well, let me encourage you to hang in there.

Have you ever sneaked a peak at the ending of a book long before you actually read the rest of it? Generally speaking that can ruin the story. Same it true for a movie. Download some blockbuster and watch the end first and you’ll see what I mean. But…the Bible isn’t some ordinary run-of-the-mill book. It’s the best-selling book of all time with good reason…many, many good reasons in fact.

You can read the end of the Bible which describes a very sadly, destructive end of this age and, with a little insight and wisdom, be very encouraged. You’ll see that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. He’s coming back one day soon, and He’ll set things right…with love AND justice.

So…no matter how difficult your circumstances may seem…with Jesus as your source of joy you’ll be able to hang in there. It’s worth it because…

We Win

It should be so easy
To just see we’re not free
As long as the innocent die.

To say that it’s legal
We spit on the eagle
Who stands for what we once held high.

It’s hard when we count up the cost,
And a million more lives have been lost.
True love won’t give up or give in.
Hang in there. It’s worth it. We win.

It’s not law. We got law.
And we saw that each law

Kept taking us further from truth.
When logic and reason
Don’t have their due season,
The lies end up long in the tooth.

So work hard and take time to pray
For lives to be saved every day.
True love won’t give up or give in.
Hang in there. It’s worth it. We win.

Hang in there…we have to see it through.
It’s worth it…watch how it changes you.

Having your friendship is my birthday gift this year and every year.

It’s my birthday today, and it’s a pretty big one. It’s one of those where you enter a whole new decade and say good-bye to the younger one. You know what I mean…unless you’re only 9.

As I look back on the previous xx years (oops my keyboard won’t type a number that high) I can’t believe that much time has passed. I remember sitting on my Grandmother’s front porch when I was about 5. She would have been the age I am now. And she told me to not take my parents and grandparents for granted. She said,

“They’ll be gone before you know it, and you’ll miss them very much.”

I remember thinking “why do old people talk like that?”

OK…I totally get it now. One day you’re young, and someone else is in charge of paying the bills, making meals, and driving the car. You blink a couple of times, it seems, and suddenly you’re that person. That “old” person who talks about how quickly time is slipping away.

But it’s fine.

Even though it’s my birthday, I’m not worried about old age.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I don’t like the idea of it anymore than anyone else, but I’m not worried because I have a living, loving Lord who’ll walk with me all the days of my life. And when I don’t feel strong enough, He’ll be there for me to lean on. And even when I reach my last breath, His light will instantly guide me home.

Now…I don’t expect that to be anytime soon. In fact, my wife and I have plans to have a very fun day…despite my well-advanced years. We’re in a new place…which is still a warmly familiar place here in Colorado. And we’re going to explore and partake of local fare and entertainment.

My birthday, this year, will be extra special because people meant bad things for me in recent months…and God saw fit to work my circumstances into much better things. He’s awesome that way. I’m thankful to Him for giving me the gift of life. I hope you are too. If so, let me know, and that will be the best birthday gift you could give me.

If I doubt you're a Christian, then the benefit of the doubt is the Word of God.

If you’ve ever read The Revelation (the last book in the Bible), you probably understand how it reveals and predicts. It’s prophetic. Some of it has happened. Some is happening now. And some is yet to come. But the point I’m making is this…The Revelation proves we’re still living in the “Bible Days.”

When you get a true sense that time is certainly running out for this age, I hope it will ignite the love of God in you. I hope you’ll want to pass this love on at every opportunity. Keep in mind…some people will even hate you for it, but pass it on. You don’t know who might benefit from knowing God loves them. And you may not find out, short of Heaven, whose life you changed.

Don’t wait for Christmas to “get in the spirit.” Let THE Spirit shine through you and walk confidently in the knowledge that God will be with you. Because…

These Are The Bible Days

I’m no prophet, but God can work through me.
Willing servants are all He wants to see.
We can learn from the past, the apostles,
and all of their ways,
But we live in the here and now, and these….are the Bible days.

Lord, our small hearts are full of love from You.
Help us know what You’d rather have us do.
Help the sheep hear Your call in this world that’s so full of strays.
As it was when Your Son arose; still these…are the Bible days.

When darkness falls…These are the Bible days.
Temptation calls…
When right is wrong…
The weak get strong…
Till every mountain sways, till every debtor pays,
Till every helpless, hopeless, sinner prays…
These…are the Bible days.

There’s no difference when going first to last.
Lord we need you like generations passed.
Give us strength for this life and help us always focus our gaze
With our eyes on the Prize because these…
are the Bible days.

Chorus

Better off not better than

I know I’m not better than you if I say I’m a Christian and you say you’re not. I’m just better off than you because I know when I’m finally absent from this body, I’ll be “present with the Lord“.

Jesus promised, if I believe and trust in Him, I’ll have eternal life. I want that. I don’t want to die and disappear into blackness. I want to live with Him forever. So, I trust in that promise from God, and for that…

I’m Better Off

I think we can agree…I’m not better than you.
It isn’t very hard to believe that it’s true.
But let me say this now, and I hope you won’t scoff…
Though I’m not better than…I know I’m better off.

I’m better off…
If you say there is no Jesus and no Truth that ever frees us.
I’m better off…
If you say no bright tomorrow can erase all of your sorrow.
I’m better off…
For a multitude of reasons, an eternity of seasons.
I’m better off…
When I leave this dark theater, I’ll go live with the Creator.

So, I’m not better than any person who sins.
No, that’s an argument where no one ever wins.
But try to understand, and don’t grumble and cough,
When I say “trust the Lord“, and you’ll be better off.

He Is My Best Friend

He Is My Best Friend

Christian writer singer illustrator Tony Funderburk

He gives me hope in spite of my troubles.
He’s there for me when life bursts my bubbles.
And He descended so I could ascend…
He is my God, and He is my best friend.

With just His words this world was created…
And just one cell is so complicated…
And His existence I’ll gladly defend.
He is my God, and He is my best friend.

He laid His life down because I was wrong.
But in my weakness He still makes me strong.
He is The One Truth that I recommend.
He is my God, and He is my best friend.

…and here are the lyrics to an old hymn that sort of says the same thing. Below that you’ll find my version of the song.

What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry…everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he’ll take and shield thee; thou wilt find a solace there.

Repeat 1st verse to end
