Get to the point fast

Get to the point already

I’ve read plenty of marketing articles that say copywriting and web content should go longer. More words. They say “now, you gotta have 1000 words, 2000 words, maybe even more. Why? Because they say so? Because it’s a trend?! Give me a break. Articles, books, commercials, web copy”they should all have only as many words as necessary to get to the point. And that’s it. Bam!

Get to the point fast

So, what does it take to get to the point?

  • Do big surprises really come in small packages?
  • Can a tiny hole truly sink a great ship?
  • Will your face “stick that way”when you make an ugly face at your brother or sister?
  • And is it humanly possible to be “back in a flash”
  • Don’t you think wild horses really could tear you apart?

OK”now see if these next lines are recorded somewhere in your memory chips”

  • “I’m lovin’ it”
  • “Just do it”
  • “They’re grrrreat”
  • “Good to the last drop”
  • “It’s the real thing”

Total Recall”right?

I’m sure you can place a name brand with each of those lines. And you can probably say the name as fast as I can say the phrase. How cool is that? We’re only talking about two to five words. And yet they’re burned in your brain like little, smoldering,  entertaining embers.

“So what,” you say.

So, think about how much you could reduce the noise if you work your business and your marketing from this angle. I’m not spouting off about how “less is more”because sometimes “more is more”. What I’m talking about is how to use creative catchy content in a straightforward way so you get to the point. Make your statement. And your audience is “hooked”. They can’t stop thinking about you and talking about you. Like a famous Martha would say””it’s a good thing”. Hey, that’s short too.

Maneuver Your Mindset

If you’re always thinking about marketing, branding, keywords, and search engines and bottom lines and telling and selling”.

You’re doomed.

Why? Because you’re not thinking about what’s important. People. I don’t mean customers. Or clients. Not prospects. And I don’t mean leads. I mean People. (not mean people…nice people) If you’re not thinking about people and how you can make their lives better, easier, more productive, and more fun”

“again”you’re doomed.

If those paragraphs above describe you, don’t feel bad. We’ve all done the same thing to some degree. I know I have. So, relax. There’s light at the end of this short tunnel. Let me shed some on you. Can I testify? Thank you brothers and sisters”

Get To The Point and start marketing on point.

Use a more creative catchy approach and “keep it short and sweet”. And full of mouth-watering meat and void of fluffy fillers. Look at the ingredients on a box of flavored crackers or chips. All those fillers make you fat and dull your senses. If you really want potato chips, you should look for a bag where the ingredients are potatoes, and maybe some coconut, olive, or avocado oil and sea salt. Nothing more. Your body will thank you.

And if you market and promote the same way, your people will thank you”with repeat business, and great word-of-mouth.

Why? Because you won’t muddy up their minds with information overload. Facts and figures they can’t or don’t remember.

You’ll be talking to them. Not at them. And you’ll talk about what really matters”in a way they CAN remember and depend on. You’ll just do it and be lovin’ it. AND you’ll be grrrreat!

Stay tuned,

Morning skies, a brand new day

Wait till morning skies Bedtime Buckaroos

Morning skies, or as they say down south, “mornin’ skies”, are a sign of a brand new day. And they’re also part of the subject of the third one of Tony’s books for kids…”Till Mornin’ Skies” It’s one of the “Bedtime Buckaroos” bedtime stories. And it’s also one of the songs off the lullabies collection by the same name.

Morning skies, a brand new day

Morning skies reveal new beginnings. But evening and night skies are mighty interesting, too.

And in the case of this book (and song) you soon discover a singing bullfrog, crickets playing drums, and even a blue-eyed armadillo. It all happens because a dog named Zazzo couldn’t get to sleep. And when he heard a song coming through the window he had to get a better look. Go get the book on Amazon.com and find out what he saw. And read it to your kids…they’ll love it. You should think about gettin the music that goes with these books, too. If you can’t find them here on the website, email me and ask how to get ’em.

You can skip Amazon and get both the ePub & PDF versions from me, in one download, for only $4 – And you’ll be able to read “Till Mornin’ Skies” on almost any device. Click or Tap HERE to get it today.

Till Mornin’ Skies

Pull down the shades
Put a good fluff in the pillow
Mockingbird sings
From a limb out on the willow.
Bullfrogs and bugs
And a blue-eyed armadillo
Play the music all night…
Everything’s gonna be alright…
So close your eyes till mornin’ skies.

Moonbeams and dreams
You can almost hear “˜em glisten
Stars become chimes
Lay your head down and just listen
Wise owl looks on
To make sure that nothin’s missin’
For the song of the night
Everything has to be just right
Now close your eyes till mornin’ skies.

Mornin’ skies will bring a brand new day, but
Mornin’ skies are still eight hours away”

So”(repeat 1st verse)

Sickness and health look at you...

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, sickness and health are opposites. You don’t need sickness. But you sure need your health. It’s not just something that’s nice to have around. It’s the core essential to any job you do or any career you have. And it’s so important that even marriage ceremonies bring up “in sickness and in health” till death do us part.

I’m not saying you can avoid sickness altogether. Because no one can. But I AM saying there are things you can do to give yourself more of a fighting chance and keep you more “in the game” even when you’re sick.

Take this sickness and health pledge:

Yeah, put down that diet cola and repeat after me. “I want to be healthy. I need to be healthy (are you repeating after me?) If I’m not healthy, I’m no good to anyone. (say it, it’s true) And if I’m healthy, I can overcome obstacles in my mind, body, and work. OK. Do you believe it? If not, then start now. Believe it.

Chew on this.

Let’s say you eat fast food everyday. But no exercise. You definitely don’t drink enough water. And even when you’re drinking it, you mix it with tea or coffee. And you think you can take your little one-a-day so-called vitamins and keep the bad times away.

Wrong.

Sickness and health are both something you’re responsible for.

It’s essential for you to stay well. People are depending on you to do your best. And when you’re constantly reaching for a tissue to honk your nose. Or running for an umpteenth bathroom break, how much good work are you getting done?

Did you ever see that commercial where the guy doesn’t know how to get dressed or make breakfast or even get in his car? Turns out he gave up smoking, and he’s having to re-learn how to do everything without a cigarette in his hand. Habits are a pretty big deal.

Don’t be like that guy.

Be well. Stay well. Start now. It’s so much more enjoyable and easier to work on being well than fighting sickness.  So…

Be happy. Grin. It’s good for you. And try these 3 things today. They’re easy:

  1. Drink just about half your body weight in ounces of water
(example: a woman who weights 120 pounds could drink 60 ounces of water)
  2. Go outside and get some fresh air and sunshine
  3. Find something to laugh about and”Laugh!

Do things like that, and you won’t jump between sickness and health so often. Then, you’ll be able to create and produce and delight your customers, clients, or audience even more. How do I know?

It just worked for me.

And it’s part of the Rhyme and Reason of life. Remember, there IS a rhyme and reason to life because God made you.

Success in business finds you when...

Can anyone else bring you success in business?

No! When it comes to success in business, internet marketing, offline marketing, or any endeavor where you hope to make money, you should follow a simple 1-2-3 process…

  1. Write, re-write, and market consistently
  2. Create products to sell
  3. Keep repeating

No writer can do all that for you. And no marketer can either. The hard truth is…you’ve got to do it yourself. Even if you pay someone a good full-time salary/paycheck to do it for you, it just doesn’t that way.

Success in business can’t be bought. It has to be earned.

So, if you’re in the business of selling products, you either have to create them, buy and sell them, or endorse and promote somebody else’s. And you need to consistently tell as many people as possible that you have this stuff. So, you need to write your ads, your website content, radio spots, or whatever. And re-write them any time you can make improvements. An creative content writer CAN help you do that. (you’re currently in the right place to work with one, by the way)

On the other hand, if you write for a living (like I do), you should still create products you sell or will eventually sell. The good news is…anything you write (anything that connects with an audience anyway) can be a potential product. So don’t throw anything away.

And don’t forget; a series of articles on fitness can be turned into a book on the benefits of alternating your fitness regimen. Or a sales page for a client who sells a similar product to yours could turn into a “swiped” direct mail piece for you.

Keep your brain flowing freely.

Then, keep your eyes open to the endless possibilities. Someone’s gotta get paid for good ideas. And it might as well be YOU. And if you’d rather outsource the writing part to a creative content creator, while you focus on other areas of success in business, I’m here.

Life makes no sense without God's love

Life Makes No Sense

If you’ve listened to my Rhyme and Reason episodes at least once, you’ve heard my tag line. “There IS a rhyme and reason to life because…God made you.” So, you might be wondering why my headline says life makes no sense. Well, it doesn’t. Not without a creator God who loves us. And fortunately we have exactly that kind of God.

Life makes no sense without God's love

No, life makes no sense, if you believe everything came from nothing.

But there’s a strong force in this world that couldn’t possibly have come from rocks or primordial soup. It’s not wind. Or fire. Or water. Not even gravity. The force I’m talking about is love.

Of course, those people who would rather have you believe there is no God, will tell you love isn’t proof of God. And they’d be dead wrong, of course. I’ve even heard them say evolution obviously produced love. Because love exists. And evolution is true. That tautological thinking only leads to hopelessness and ultimate despair.

Love IS proof of God because of something known as “cause and effect.” No effect is greater than its cause. Now, let me ask you, do you think, on a scale of intelligence, you’re greater than rocks? Of course you are. How about dirt? Water? Even those adorable and smart Labrador Retrievers? (I’ve had two, and they were awesome…but not greater than humans.) Let’s go big. Do you think you’re more intelligent than planet Earth? I hope so. Because you are. Humans are the most intelligent of any part of creation.

But we’re not more intelligent…not greater than…God. He’s the uncaused First Cause. We’re the lesser “effect” of His creation. And because we can love, we know He can love. Like I said, no effect is greater than its cause. Makes sense. Right?

And here are the lyrics to the song I’m sharing in the corresponding episode of Rhyme and Reason.

Because I Can Love

What made You think
That I was worth the risk You took?
What made You take the time
To write Your Holy Book?
I don’t believe I’d give myself a second look,
But You did because You love.

You made a world
That was as perfect as could be,
But then I broke it
When You gave it all to me…
By going through the gate You made to set me free.
This You did because You love…me.

Because You love me so…
In spite of all You know…
Because You did the most that You could ever do…
Because I clearly see…
Evidence of You in me…
Because I can love…I do love…You!

You put a life
And a will inside my soul.
You knew true love
Would be to give me full control.
But knowing You is all that ever makes me whole.
I trust You because You love…me.

I can live because You live!
I can love because You love!

Cholesterol is found in everything

Cholesterol is found in some interesting and tasty places

It’s good to see some updated reports on cholesterol because it’s gotten a pretty scary reputation over the years and decades. There are people who stress out over the mere mention of the so-called “artery-clogging”gooey stuff. But take a quick look at some of the things cholesterol is found in and see if it really deserves its enemy-to-health status. (note: Removed a link to a government page because it’s no longer there)

Cholesterol is found in everything

Cholesterol is found in these? Uh-oh!

  • Meat, poultry, fish”
  • Milk and other dairy products”
  • Plants, and”
  • YOU

Did you catch that? Cholesterol, in varying levels, is found in just about everything you might choose to eat. And more importantly it’s found in YOU. Even if you somehow managed to avoid eating anything with cholesterol in it, your body would still contain cholesterol. Because your body makes cholesterol. Your liver produces cholesterol in order to balance things like Vitamin D, steroid hormones, and bile acids. When you eat foods that contain cholesterol, your liver produces less. When you eat foods that don’t contain cholesterol, your body produces more. And I’m a living, breathing example of how important this is to know.

Many years back a doctor told me my total cholesterol level of 200 was dangerously high. He gave me a diet guideline sheet that recommended eliminating foods that cholesterol is found in like red meats”in fact most meats, “fatty foods”such as oils, nuts, fried foods, and a host of other items. I did as he recommended. The next couple of years I had no red meats or the other foods on the list. The next time I had my cholesterol checked, it registered 232. Huh? Higher? How could that be?

So, I decided to become a vegetarian.

I cut out the rest of the meats. I still included fish and eggs, but just about any other animal product was off my list. The good news”I love most fruits and vegetables. And I ate them at most every meal. The bad news”my next cholesterol test showed a result of 268. Guess what happened then?

My primary care physician said I’d need to take statin drugs. He prescribed Baycol. And after a month on the drug I noticed a steep decline in my health. My wife said I looked like I was dying. So, I stopped taking the drug, found a chiropractor who was also a naturopath. And you’ll never guess what he told me. Well, maybe you will guess. First”he asked me about the foods my grandparents ate for breakfast. I told him “bacon, eggs, and toast”. He asked, “Why don’t you eat that, too?”And I told him how that stuff was supposed to be bad for me. He asked, “How old were your grandparents when they died?”

“In their 80’s and 90’s,” I replied.

He said”

“Eat some bacon.”

I love bacon. So, I could have hugged him right then, if I was the hugging type. And as soon as I left his office, my wife and I went out for a delicious bacon cheeseburger. I’ve been eating red meat, enjoying coconut oil, real butter, and other “no-no”foods ever since. I’ve enjoyed all kinds of foods that cholesterol is found in. And my cholesterol numbers have gone down significantly.

So here are three things I’d like you to take with you today and always”

  1. Eating cholesterol and saturated fat isn’t the the root cause of higher cholesterol levels in the blood.
  2. High cholesterol in the blood isn’t the cause of heart disease.
  3. Statin drugs don’t save lives in healthy people without heart disease.

And a couple more things about statin drugs. They don’t save the lives of healthy people without heart disease. And they can even take lives. A few months after I stopped taking Baycol, I received a letter informing me I could take part in a class-action suit against the makers of that statin drug. Because it had actually killed some people and made a lot of other people very ill.

Need I say more?

Please note”I’m not a doctor, a naturopath, or a medical practitioner, or health and wellness expert of any kind. And I’m only sharing my story and some information. Inform yourself with more than the typical FDA or governmental “health guidelines.”Then, you’ll discover how cholesterol is found in just about everything. And you’ll realize the wonderful symbiotic design between us and our foods.

And that design is on purpose. Not by accident. You and I were wonderfully made by the one, true, living, loving God of all creation. He wants you to be happy and healthy. But more importantly, He wants you to live forever…with Him, in Heaven. So, it’s even more important to your health to choose life. Sure, eat well and move around more. But choose life. Eternal life. And remember…

There IS a Rhyme and Reason to life because…God made you.

What will you be giving for a high standard of living?

What will you be giving for your high standard of living?

Our generally high standard of living in America is great. As far as I’m concerned, it’s still the best place on earth to live. We still enjoy more freedom than any other place”in spite of government; not because of. But that’s another subject. And we still have so much to make our lives easier”which could be making us toxic. It might even be killing us.

Play

Get The The Power of God's Love Podcast Delivered to Your Device Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | Android | Pandora | iHeartRadio | Podchaser | Podcast Index | TuneIn | Deezer | RSS | More

What will you be giving for a high standard of living?

Saying our high standard of living might be killing us is a pretty harsh statement. But here’s what I mean…

  • Much of our urban air is toxic”in major cities you can actually SEE it
  • Much of our water is polluted”even that great bottled water you buy all the time
  • Viruses and unhealthy bacteria are almost out of control
  • Much of our “normal” food lacks nutrients and it gets bombarded with poisonous chemicals and hormones
  • Even our hearts and minds often get polluted”mostly from the stress of the other things mentioned

Deaths from heart disease, cancer, strokes, diabetes, obesity, and other diseases account for more than 85 percent of all deaths. And many times a simple (well basically simple) lifestyle change could make the difference. Don’t be one of those statistics.

Ready to throw your hands up in the air and give up?

Well, don’t. There are some great things you can do to alleviate a lot of these problems. But it takes something a lot of people don’t have”commitment. Do you have it? Or do you think you can build it up in yourself? If so, you can enjoy a healthier, happier life and lifestyle. But it’s not an easy thing to do. Especially with so many of your friends, family, and co-workers doing their parts to sabotage your efforts. How? Well, they feed you negative comments. They nay-say and scoff. They do just about anything but encourage. Why?

Because they’re discouraged and not willing to commit. And they certainly don’t need some do-gooder showing them up when it comes to good food choices and moving around more. Once you commit to healthier choices, you become a beacon of light, and so many others choose to put on their sunglasses and roll down the shades.

I’ll be sharing some things you can do to offset the effects of bad air, water, chemicals, germs, and pesticides. And, in the meantime, even though a high standard of living comes with its problems, remember this…

It’s still better than a low standard of living.

You can change some habits and raise yours starting today. It’s a matter of choices. One choice is to start your very own online business. The R.O.I. (return on investment) can be higher than just about any other place you could put your money. And, like I said, you can get started today. I recommend the Proven Amazon Course. Because it gives you a lot of modules to choose from. So, you can focus on your strengths and get help with the areas you’re not so strong.

Look it over, HERE. And just so you know, yes…I do get a commission for sending you there. But it doesn’t change the price at all. So, what do you say? Are you ready to invest in yourself and your higher standard of living?

Stay tuned,

Henry Hippo wants to know

Henry Hippo’s Heartbeat

Henry Hippo is a young hippopotamus with a heart problem. Or so he thinks. He can’t hear his heartbeat. So, he believes he either doesn’t have a heart or it isn’t working. Either way, it’s a serious problem for Henry. And that’s why he goes on a quest for help. Here’s a  little bit a little video excerpt from the book…

Henry was a hippo. And I don’t know if you know this, but hippos are huge.
So when a huge hippo has a problem, it’s a huge problem.
Young Henry couldn’t hear his heartbeat.
And everybody knows you gotta have a heartbeat.
After all, what good is a heart without a beat?

“If I can’t hear my heartbeat, maybe I don’t have a heart,”Henry thought to himself.
“And I don’t even want to think about what could happen if I don’t have a heart.

So, join Henry Hippo on his quest to find his heartbeat”

~ Henry Hippo’s Heartbeat ~
Buy this ebook direct from Tony’s store…
2 versions in one download for only $4.
You can read it on almost any mobile device or computer.

Henry Hippo wants to know

Here are the words to the Henry Hippo song…

What if you could not hear your own heartbeat?
What if the beat wasn’t there?
Would you stand still or wind up your fast feet
And run to look everywhere?
Can you imagine, it might be spooky…
If no one else understood.
And if your friends all thought you were kooky,
Would you still try all you could?

Hey, can you hear your heartbeat?
Oh, hey! Can you hear your heartbeat?

Who could you count on? Who could you turn to
From some relief from the scare?
Would you be glad if a small, little voice said
“Hold on, your heartbeat is there?”

Hey, can you hear your heartbeat?
Oh, hey! Can you hear your heartbeat?

A Wordpress website install makes you the center of it all

Your Optimized WordPress Website Install

Are you a small to medium business owner who works from home? Or maybe you have a small brick and mortar shop. Either way, you need a website. But not just any old website. I suggest a WordPress website install. That’s just a fancy schmancy way of saying use WordPress to create and build your website. All the sites I’ve created over the past dozen or more years have been on the WP platform. And I’m a firm believer that it’s just about the best for helping great American risk takers build something awesome.

A WordPress website install makes you the center of it all

Consider this checklist for your Wordpress website Install:

  • If you already have a domain name that goes well with your business name, use that.
  • And if you don’t have a domain name, try to pick one based on some local keyword research.
  • When you install your WordPress website, set up an optimized responsive theme. And be sure it complements your business logo and colors. (responsive means your site will look good on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone)
  • You can get by with as little as one page. But you could probably do better when you include an about page and services, bio, and contact page. That way you can start showing off your products, services, or information right away.
  • Then, work on some local SEO. So your small business website can be found within your local area. Because if you’re a massage therapist in the Denver, Colorado area, you need your site to show up there.
  • And this next point is more work. But consider adding regular blog posts (articles). They’ll help your site look “lived in”. And search engines, like Google, reward websites with regularly updated content. Add posts at least every week. Daily can be better. And don’t worry if you’re “not a writer”. Just write about what you talk about in your business. You know what that is. And you don’t need anyone else telling you how to be you.

A WordPress website install is a very small investment in your business.

Especially when you consider how much everything else costs to run a business. And it gives your  small or medium business 24/7/365 promotion. Plus, it helps you not to depend on the fickle social media. How much would you have to pay humans to do all that for you?

Now, that’s all I’m gonna say on that. I’ve helped lots of clients build and install their websites on the WordPress platform. I don’t do that as much anymore. And I’ll probably stop providing that service altogether before long. But if you don’t feel that you can D.I.Y., get in touch. Of course, you might not like my rates, but I can probably get it going for you a lot faster. Anyway…something to consider.

DNA Code in a book called "The Code" by Tony Funderburk

This is my second  book for kids.
Dive into how the DNA code comes alive in…
“The Code”

Of course, everybody has a DNA code. And this is a short story for kids to help them get interested in knowing how we’re designed. Follow along as Danny and Andy, the DNA twins, have to battle against Cholestor, the bad guy. Will they be able to put the code together in time to save the day?

DNA Code in a book called "The Code" by Tony Funderburk

This is an illustrated book for kids who might be interested in how
even the tiniest parts of us are full of life.

Danny and Andy are inseparable in their DNA Code.

In fact, you might say everything depends on them staying together and doing their job. To find out more about who and what they are (and maybe even a little bit about yourself) read this book today. And read it to your kids…they’ll love it.

It’s fun to take something like the double helix and turn it into a couple of hero characters in a book. I don’t know, for sure, if imagination is in our DNA. But I like to think it is. Because it would be yet another amazing example of how we’re made by a living, loving God. And when you think about it, it makes sense. The God, whose imagination designed the whole universe, probably sprinkled a little of His imagination in each of us.

Anyway…here’s how you can get the book. And if you choose the Kindle option (below) I’d love it if you could give me a 20 star review on Amazon. Don’t let their 5 star limit stop you.

Mobile apps for business are not gonna make you a superstar

Skip The Mobile Apps For Business

Mobile apps for business are not necessary. OK, I’ve said it. And I’m not gonna take it back. Believe me, this is coming from a guy who uses apps everyday on his iPhone. Of course, I fuel up on the latest news each morning using my News app. And I check my email on my iPhone way more than on my MacBook. I use the Notes app for my business notes, links storage, and idea sharing. And lately I’ve been using deals apps to earn points for free gift cards.

Mobile apps for business are not gonna make you a superstar

Some more ways I use mobile apps for business…

I can create, produce, scan, and share business docs. And I can save those docs in “the cloud” using my cloud storage app. Did I mention how cool it is to check my mobile banking app to see new deposits after someone buys my stuff?

And it’s awesome to be able to type an address into my maps app and listen to it giving me directions to my destination. Oh yeah, I also love to listen to podcasts on long drives where radio signal is sketchy.

My Filmic Pro app is excellent for taking client videos and basically any videos where “the usual” isn’t good enough. Then, there’s Lumafusion for editing, and sharing this finished videos. The resolution in this video camera I carry around in my pocket compares to the quality that used to be found only in big, bulky equipment. Back when only the most dedicated photographers and videographers did this kind of work. And I could go on and on about how awesome my mobile apps are.

But I’d still tell you mobile apps for business are not necessary.

You might be asking”why? Or maybe you’re saying”you idiot, you’re just not willing to keep up with the times. Don’t you know billions of apps are being downloaded on Apple and Android devices every year?

Yep. I know. And like I said”they’re awesome. Just not necessary for business”unless your business is developing apps.

For my money (advertising and expendable income) I’d prefer to think of how I can make my own website function like a mobile app. First off”my website has to be optimized for mobile. In other words, it has to show up well on mobile devices. It can’t just look like a miniaturized version of my desktop/laptop site. Logos and fonts have to be easily readable. Links have to be tappable with a thumb or finger on the fly. And here’s the cool thing”

When I put my actionable content up front and center, it makes my website take on the characteristics of an app. I put video on a landing page with an easy-to-see play button, and voila! People tap and watch the video. And I add an easy-to-see, tap-to-call phone number, and bingo! People can tap with their clunky thumbs and call me.

Here’s a big reason why you probably don’t need a mobile app for your business.

The thing about having mobile apps for business is that once you get yours, now you have to market it. And that’s in addition to what you’re already marketing. And if you’re fine with that, then you go marketing meister. But now you’re doing double the work for what? Double the income? Double the contacts or leads? Surely you’re not thinking double the conversions? I doubly doubt it.

Look”you feel free to build (or pay a lot to have someone else build) a mobile app for your business. Especially if you think it’s gonna propel your business forward. But I still say it isn’t necessary. And I’ll keep creating content for me and my clients that does the same thing without the extra fuss.

Agree? Disagree? Leave me your comments”

Ad-blocking apps can't fight you and your own website.

Ad-blocking Apps and Your Own Website

An article I just read about ad-blocking apps asked if the “end of the mobile ad industry is already in site“. I don’t think they will. But so what if they completely destroy mobile advertising. Or at least destroy it in its current form. Even if they do, here’s why that shouldn’t worry you. Because they can’t block you from advertising your business on your own website.

Ad-blocking apps can't fight you and your own website.

Do this with your own website.

Upload a video about your goods and services and information on your home page. Or any page you decide to make into a landing page. It’s not a typical advertisement. It’s just you (or someone you trust) talking about your business. Think of it like sharing a video or pictures of your trip to the islands with your friends and family. Only it’s you talking about your gizmos, gadgets, and golly gee’s. You’re not selling. You’re telling.

And here’s the good news. Your non-ad advertising can’t be blocked. (At least, not yet. But give the wrong people enough power and who knows?) Fact is…your story (ad in disguise) might even get shared. If you make it entertaining, engaging, and/or educational.

Ad-blocking is an excellent tool for those nuisance ads. You know…like lawyers telling you how much they care about you. Or drug companies telling you how they can make your life better. And how about other companies telling you how you can sue drug companies, insurance companies, and lawyers? Yeesh. Spray some of that ad-blocking on me right now.

But there’s potential downside to ad-blocking apps, too. They might also block all the mom and pop businesses. And they just want to get the word out about their restaurant’s special of the day. Or their 50% sale on auto parts. Or a variety of other everyday useful things. And that’s not helping anyone. Small mom and pop businesses are still the backbone of America. In spite of what you might have heard about behemoths like Amazon, etc.

So, my suggestion is to focus more on the story of your business.

Then figure out cool ways to tell it so viewers might even want to share it. You might (and I certainly will) call this “digital-word-of-mouth”marketing. Who knows? Maybe even your whatchamacallit could go viral.

Stay tuned,

Website marketing mistakes

Website Marketing Mistakes

You can make some website marketing mistakes and still have a successful online business website. Yep, just like in real life, your mistakes don’t predestine you to failure. Of course, mistakes also don’t predestine you to success either. Maybe you’ve heard well-known marketing experts say something like “you’ll have to fail your way to success”. I disagree with that wording. Because I firmly believe words mean things, ideas have consequences, and saying something over and over doesn’t make it true.

Website marketing mistakes

Website marketing mistakes can help you, if you learn from your mistakes.

I’ve been writing for websites and creating them since 1997. I like to say I’ve been “doing this since the internet was still figuring out what it wanted to be when it grows up”. And believe me, I’ve made my share of clunky website marketing mistakes”as well as design mistakes and content mistakes.

But these mistakes have taught me some very valuable lessons. I’ve learned to”

  • Streamline content for faster load times (computer and mobile browsers)
  • Write for people and “spiders”
  • Look for an audience before building content or anything else

Here’s why it matters.

You could be doing some really great things with your ideas, products, and services. And you might even be doing some very cool things with your website. But they might not be getting in front of the right audience. See my third bullet point, above. And I think it’s the most important point.

Probably the biggest of all website marketing mistakes is to think your “great idea”will translate into a great website and great internet business. But did you do any research to back that up? Or do you just “feel”like it’s true? You can save yourself a lot of headaches by doing some digging online. Google has some awesome free tools for doing this. I still use them in addition to some other research software.

Another one of the top marketing mistakes, online, is adding content to your site that distracts instead of entices. There are so many “cool”things you can add to your online business. But just because you “CAN”doesn’t mean you should. Think of it this way”when you drive into a metropolitan area and start to see tons of billboards, do they make it more efficient to get where you’re going? Or do they mostly distract? I tend to tune them out unless I’m casually cruising.

And there are lots of other subtle and blatant things that can add or subtract from the experience your visitors have on your website. If you’d prefer to get some help streamlining and adding valuable creative content, I’m here. To your marketing success”

Fantasy writers should be the only ones writing fantasy.

Only Fantasy Writers Should Be Fantasy Writers

Do you sell fantasy products, services, or information? How about fantasy writing…do you sell that? If you answered “No” to those questions, then you shouldn’t be one of those fantasy writers.

Fantasy writers should be the only ones writing fantasy.

I enjoy fantasy writers as much as the next guy, but…

I actually get paid to write and produce non-fiction words and media. And even though I’ve been called a “creative content writer”it’s not because I make things up. And I enjoy doing that, by the way. But business owners hire me to write content for their websites to get better search engine results. Sometimes they need or want more website traffic. And sometimes they just need me to help them tell their story. It’s basically all about getting viewers and visitors to notice them. And respond. Take action.

Since we’re visual and interactive creatures it only makes sense the internet should be like that, too.

And I truly enjoy being a writer who can tell stories and share ideas. Because I help business owners get discovered online and offline. Of course, I realize my services aren’t as affordable as doing it yourself. (Unless you factor in what you’re truly worth to your business.) So, I want to share how do-it-yourselfers can bypass me altogether.

You can do your own business writing and get great results.

And here’s what I suggest”

  • Study what successful internet marketing people are doing
  • Do what those people are doing
  • Learn to write well
  • Research niches
  • Start a blog (and get some key plugins) based on your niche research
  • Create relevant, actionable content
  • Keep writing your regular blog posts and articles
  • Share those posts and articles with your email list
  • Connect your posts and articles to social media sites
  • And create backlinks to your relevant products and information
  • AND…don’t forget to create some products people want to buy

That’s it. Get those few things going, and you’re on the right path to internet marketing success. Also”be prepared to be in business for the long haul because those “make-$14,876-in-only-one-month”sales pitches are just pitches. No riches. Real business requires real work and dedication. But the payoff endures.

Sacred heart of fools

The sacred heart of fools ain’t sacred

People in another part of the world (I’m in America) have their sacred cow. And that’s become sort of a metaphor for whatever somebody holds dear. But I don’t wanna use that. Because I’m talking about the sorry state of human beings and the way they talk to and treat each other these days. Individual desires trump everyThing AND everyOne else. If your selfishness takes you that far behind the dark door, it has become your sacred heart.

Sacred heart of fools

Don’t trust your sacred heart.

You and I are flawed, sinful people. All you gotta do is read social media threads to know that. But I suggest reading something much more rewarding. A book with an awesome plot twist. The only book in the history of the world that can help you understand what’s truly sacred. And what is that?

It’s not your cause.

Not your candidate for office.

It’s not your favorite entertainer. (even if he or she proclaims the name of Jesus)

Not movie makers.

Or even a beautiful building to hang out in on Sundays.

Everything in this world is worthy of being tossed in the fire and consumed. And everyone in this world will lie, let you down, and break your heart. At least once. Yeah, I probably don’t even have to tell you, but…

Nothin’s Sacred Anymore

Take the truth and lock it up, and throw away the key
Winds of change are blowing foul; a dance with destiny
Blur the face of love and sex and say it’s all OK
Tell the child it’s just a choice and melt her soul away

Nothin’s sacred anymore”
Can’t we learn from mistakes when they cut to the core
Nothin’s sacred anymore”
And should we be surprised since we’ve opened that dark, wide door?
Nothin’s sacred anymore

Cast your vote for social growth and then say yes to law
Keep the peace, divide the wealth; the vision Adolph saw
Hedge the bets and ride the fence; the middle road’s secure
Then one day you’re head to head with all you must endure

Nothin’s sacred anymore”
Can’t we learn from mistakes when they cut to the core
Nothin’s sacred anymore”
And should we be surprised since we’ve opened that dark, wide door?
Nothin’s sacred anymore

More space and time”more would be sublime
Someone else can pay”long as I get mine today
Ain’t nothin’ sacred anymore

© 2002 Tony Funderburk

Whatever is your sacred heart…unless it’s Jesus…I recommend you give it up. It might be a struggle. But you’re not alone in that struggle. Everyone else in the world is struggling against their flesh, too. No matter how it looks on the outside.

But you were fearfully and wonderfully made. By a Creator who wants to love you forever. And He’s so awesome that He’s given you the choice to be with Him or not. He hopes (and so do I) you’ll want to be with Him in Heaven forever. But He won’t make you go there if you’d rather exist in your own selfish hate forever. You can be the “ruler” of your universe of one in hell. Or you can be rich in love and in paradise forever. Don’t put off the choice. Choose right now. C’mon…

Do Somethin’!

Solar system birth and earth

Our Solar System Birth Included Planet Earth

Once upon a time, billions of years ago, there was a big, lonely cloud of swirling dust. It had no home. So, it floated and drifted all around the universe with no particular place to go. But then, one day, it got tired of being lonely. And it decided to condense into a solar system. In fact, the was OUR solar system birth. It included our beautiful, blue planet Earth, and Mars, and Venus, and all the rest. And it was like a miracle. Because all the planets started circling the sun without bumping into each other. And while they circled the sun, they each began to spin around, too. Before you could say “Darwin, come down out of that tree!” little moons were formed. The little lights sparkled with glee. And the solar system lived happily ever after.

Solar system birth and earth

Did you enjoy the solar system birth story boys and girls?

With the humongous amount of data we now have, and can get every day, how can anyone believe in the evolution fairy tale? Well, I don’t know how…but I do know why. Because they don’t wanna believe in God.

When you don’t believe in the Creator God, you’ll imagine the wildest things. Like how “evolutionists claim that the solar system condensed out of a vast cloud of swirling dust about 4.6-billion years ago.”  But if that’s true, then why isn’t the solar system a lot dustier? (aah…aah..achoo!)

Then again, maybe I’m just a dufus Christian musician who only wants to write songs and poems about an “invisible guy in the sky.” Yeah, maybe I have an agenda. And maybe I don’t know or even understand the deeper things like science and technology. Ok, so don’t take my words and music for it. But I think you should at least check out the “Poynting-Robertson Effect” before you dismiss me altogether.

According to actual science, that “dust” I mentioned should still be falling into and burning up in the Sun’s atmosphere. And that should be giving off a nice infrared glow. (Wouldn’t that be pretty to watch as you sip margaritas on the beach?) Uh-oh, sorry to burst that bubble, but measurements have been taken during a recent solar eclipse. And that pretty infrared glow just ain’t there. Darn!

So, the story of how our beautiful solar system was born millions of years ago is a fairy tale.

Don’t get me wrong. I’ve always enjoyed fairy tales and fiction. (Can you say, “Avengers?”) But I don’t put my faith in them. Then the illusion becomes a delusion. And that can lead to millions of years of misery.

It’s a much better idea to go where the science truly leads. And you’ll discover there’s a Rhyme and Reason to life because God made you.

Remarkable meaning is not where I'm leaning

Remarkable meaning – what does it mean?

Don’t write to convey a remarkable meaning. Don’t sing, compose a song, dance, paint, drive a truck, mow a lawn, run a corporation, run a race, or anything else for the sake of a remarkable meaning. Being remarkable should never, ever, ever”never, never, ever be your end game. OK”have I made myself clear on that point? Good. Then, I can move on”

Remarkable meaning is not where I'm leaning

So, does anything have remarkable meaning?

Whatever you do, for a living, or for a cause, or for another person, should be something you’re willing and able to do well. Even if you don’t love it or even like it. And even if you’re planning on moving to something else. Because everything you’re doing is laying groundwork (or building on your current groundwork). A foundation for who you are and how you will be perceived.

You won’t be remarkable simply by advertising integrity, honesty, and values. Advertising doesn’t bestow any of them on you or your customers and clients. Instead, try this”when someone asks to borrow your pen, give them one. When someone asks where the nearest diner is, offer to take them there. When someone is counting on your agreed upon deadline, deliver in advance of it.

In my worldview this is called “love your neighbor as yourself”.

You might have also heard the saying “do unto others as you would have done unto you”. Same thing. If you wouldn’t like it to happen to you, don’t do it to someone else. And if you’d like to see a business run a certain way, run yours that way”regardless of who else is or isn’t. What you’ll see (and I agree it might take time) is people will begin to tell their friends, family, colleagues, and other business owners what an honest person you are.

By the way…telling is remarking. So, you’ll be remarkable after all. Because your focus wasn’t on how to be remarkable.

Wow”isn’t that remarkable?!

Small minds, secret finds

Small minds, secret finds
Time to open up the blinds

Let me start off by telling you I’m an idea guy. And I don’t like to talk much about people and things. I once heard someone say: “Great minds talk about ideas. Mediocre minds talk about things. And small minds talk about people”. I took that to heart. And I hope you will, too. Because it’s powerful medicine for YOUR mind.
[powerpress}

Small minds, secret finds

Small minds borrow and steal ideas.

Ideas are words not spoken yet. And dreams not yet fulfilled. But they start the process. Close your eyes. And imagine your ideal set of circumstances for your life. Some people dream of lounging on the beach all day. Others long to travel. Maybe around the world in a yacht. Or on a never-ending trip through the back roads of America. Whatever you imagine for yourself, imagine it right now.

Now, what’s stopping you from achieving that dream? When you really get down to it, what’s holding down your ideas? I can tell you from my perspective I’m living out one of my lifelong desires right this minute. Ever since I was in high school, way back in medieval times, I dreamed of being a writer. And here I am with my own website. Writing my own articles. And even getting paid for my own professional writing service. If I live to be 100, I don’t want to stop. I don’t want to lounge on the beach or sail around the world.

Wait a minute. That’s not exactly what I mean.

Actually I’d love to lounge on a beach. Or travel more. But not as my ideal life. Doing those things would simply be a brief pause in my “real”life. And my “real” life is eternal. So, I know how important it is to realize ideas have consequences. Eternal ones.

So, don’t die. At least not before you’ve had the chance to express the full you. And not before you’ve had the chance to seal the right deal on your eternal destination. After you do, then go make the splash you’ve imagined yourself making. And don’t give up. Hope springs eternal to the dreamer who knows a future in paradise awaits.

While you’re still breathing, you can still make a difference; whether it’s in your life or the lives of those you touch. And always remember…There IS a Rhyme and Reason to life because God made you.

Spin Zone - where only certain opinions matter

Your ol’ buddy, Tone, is in a Spin Zone

When the media sends out a message with an obvious bias, that’s often called a spin. And when they dig in and really ramp it up, that’s called a spin zone. So, stick with me as I spin this out, and ask…Who do you think cares more about your life? And the life of your family? You? Or the government?

Hold on tight. You’re in a spin zone.

I bet you were able to answer my question much faster than I was able to ask it. You know who cares more. YOU! So, it’s crucial not to rely on the government for assistance of any kind. And we all need to work harder and smarter to see to our own prosperity. And we need to learn the difference between sharing and stealing. Huh?!

Yep.

And even if a majority says it’s OK to steal (tax) from me to give to someone else, that doesn’t make it right. When the government gives it a benevolent sounding name, they’re just using their own “putting lipstick on a pig” tactic. And keep this in mind. “The government” isn’t a spiritual entity. It’s made up of people. People who can’t even figure out how to keep water systems safe. So, why should they be trusted to distribute wealth fairly?

Don’t thirst for a bail out

Consider this: Ana Navas-Acien, MD, PhD, assistant professor and researcher at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University and her team of collaborators analyzed data from 788 adults age 20 and older. Their urine was tested for traces of this toxin. They found…

  • Participants with type 2 diabetes had a 26% higher arsenic level than people who did not have the disease.
  • Those with the highest levels of arsenic were more than three times as likely to have diabetes than those with the lowest levels. Drinking water can be contaminated with arsenic in some mining areas and in areas with inappropriate arsenic waste disposal. Also, air pollution can be an additional source of arsenic exposure in certain areas.

Imagine how much more efficient and effective our country would be if taxes were used to keep utilities infrastructure safe from pollutants and poisons. And if our tax dollars were used to keep bridges and roads safe, secure, and smooth. How about night lights shining? And a military with state-of-the-art equipment to defend us against all aggression. Personally I’d be glad to pay taxes for those things. And it could all be done for approximately 5% of each person’s earnings. Amazing huh?

But wait, I’m not done.

  • A government who takes my money and gives it to corporate idiots who’ve run their businesses into the ground? No.
  • A government who takes my money and gives it to bankers and insurance company owners who’ve squandered their assets? No.
  • A government who takes my money and gives it to people who won’t work, or others who spend it on abortions, or others who spend it on athletic shoes, or flat screen TV’s, or satellite radio and mp3 players for their cars. No, No, No, and No.

Those things cause envy, bitterness, and resentment. Like a famous TV doc says “how’s that workin’ for ya?”

This isn’t a partisan spin.

I’m not a Re(po)publican or a Demo(lish)crat. And I’m not a Liber(scare)ian or a blind and foolish anarchist. I’m just a small business owner. Am I’m tired of Robin Hood politicians. Because it’s wrong (and it always will be) to take from one to give to another.

That’s not charity. It’s thievery.

Your personal economy is where you should be focusing. And we all need to open our eyes to the lies and deception of thinking anyone in Washington D.C. gives a good hoot about how we feel. They only care about how much they can get away with. Their never-ending tax and spend agendas prove it year after year. And, to repeat, it’s not a partisan issue. Both major parties are completely guilty.

If you’re a small business owner, or an employee, I believe in you, the worker, the entrepreneur, the risk-taker, the dream builder. And I believe your spirit won’t be held down for long. Unless you just give in. Never, ever, ever, never, never, never, ever, ever, ever give up.

Ponder things when someone sings

Do you ever ponder things for no reason at all?

I remember driving my brand new little Ford sedan all around the countryside in Kansas. Way…waaaaayyyy back when. And I’d just keep my eyes peeled for a place to pull over and ponder things. And maybe even write about ’em. Sometimes important things. Many times just things of interest to probably no one in the world but me. I don’t recall a single time I envisioned myself one day writing and talking to an audience who’d read and listen through computers and smartphones. Nope, I’d just…

Ponder things when someone sings

Ponder things like this…

  • Do big surprises really come in small packages?
  • Can a tiny hole truly sink a great ship?
  • Will your face “stick that way”when you make an ugly face at your brother or sister?
  • Is it humanly possible to be “back in a flash”
  • Don’t you think wild horses really could tear you apart?

Now, put that pondering thing aside for second. And see if any of these ring a bell for you…

  • “I’m lovin’ it”
  • “Just do it”
  • “They’re grrrreat”
  • “More Saving”More Doing”
  • “Let’s Go Places”

Total Recall, Right?

I’m sure you can place a name brand with each of those tag lines. And you can probably say the name as fast as I can say the phrase. How cool is that? We’re only talking about two to four words, and yet they’re burned in your brain like hot coals. That’s because some clever content creator somewhere set his or her brain on fire to bring ’em to you.

“So what”, you say.

Well, ponder this…

How much could you reduce the “noise”if you work your business, marketing, and life from this angle? I’m not spouting off about how “less is more” because sometimes “more is more”. I’m talking about talking your talk in a straightforward way so you get to the point. You make your statement, and your audience is “hooked”. They can’t stop thinking about you and talking about you. Like a famous Martha would say””it’s a good thing”. Hey, that’s short too.

Maneuver Your Mindset

If you’re always thinking about marketing and branding and keywords and search engines and bottom lines and telling and selling”.

You’re doomed. Because you’re not thinking about what’s important.

People.

They’re important. And I don’t mean customers. Or mean clients, mean prospects, or mean leads. I mean real people. If you’re not thinking about people and how you can work to make their lives better, easier, more productive, and more fun, like I said”

“you’re doomed.

If you found yourself in the “doomed”category, don’t feel bad. We’ve all done the same thing to some degree. I know I have. Now, relax. There’s light at the end of this short tunnel. Let me shed some on you. Can I testify? Thank you brothers and sisters”

Manage The Mania

Here’s what I suggest. Get to the point. Keep it “short and sweet”. More of the sizzling, juicy ribeyes”and less of the empty calories bread. Look at the ingredients on a box of flavored crackers or chips. All those fillers are what make you fat and dull your senses. If you really want potato chips, look for a bag where the ingredients are…potatoes. Period. (maybe some sea salt and coconut oil) Your body will thank you.

And if you market and promote the same way, your people will thank you. With support, repeat business, and great word-of-mouth.

Why? Because you won’t muddy up their minds with information overload. Facts and figures they can’t or don’t understand. You’ll be talking to them. Not at them. And you’ll talk about what really matters”in a way they can remember and depend on. You’ll just do it and be lovin’ it. AND you’ll be grrrreat!

And that’s some of the things I’m pondering today.

Stay tuned,
