Common denominator became an instigator

Read the following list of names and see if you can tell me what the common denominator is with them.

– Ferguson’s suicide-by-cop Michael Brown
– Aurora theater murderer James Holmes
– Islamic Boston Bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev
– Miami cannibal Rudy Eugene
– Trayvon Martin
– Baltimore’s Freddie Gray
– Vegas Strip murderer Lakeisha Holloway
– Planned Parenthood shooter Robert Lewis Dear
– Infamous murderer Jodi Arias
– Devin Kelley murdered 26 at church massacre
– Chattanooga’s Islamic terrorist Muhammad Abdulazeez
– Tucson massacre mass murderer Jared Lee Loughner, and many more including:
– Japan’s pothead legalization activist Satoshi Uematsu killed 19 handicapped people
– England’s Manchester jihadist Salman Abedi killed 22
– France’s Bastille Day jihadist killed 86 at the beach.

Do you know the common denominator?

And for those of you who attended public school in the last 20 years, do you even know what a common denominator is? I’m not asking that question to publicly ridicule you. It’s a legitimate question because public schools don’t tend to teach beyond feelings anymore. Mathematical terms, like common denominator, aren’t common in your everyday feelings and emotions. So, why spend any time teaching something nobody’s gonna use anyway? Right?

Well, let’s get back to that list. Yeah, all the people on that list have something in common. It’s something other than the fact that they murdered people. They all have a substance in common. And that substance is pot. Weed. Wacky tobacky. Now, if you love your smoke, just can’t live without it, and you know you would never murder anybody, you probably would rather I would just move on to and talk about something else. And in fact, I don’t tend to talk about marijuana all that much here on my website or in my newsletter or podcast.

The only reason I brought it up now is because someone recently mentioned how it might help my recovery process from the recent stroke I went through. I suppose their recommendation came from a place of “good intentions.” But, when someone recommends mari jane’s can o’ biscuits or products related to those, I immediately think they just haven’t read enough about it to make a good decision. At least I hope that’s all it is.

I’ve read and watched enough to know that pot ain’t the way to go.

Of course, if you’ve followed me here for a while, you know, I’m not a fan of pharmaceuticals either. But generally speaking, they have more guidelines and monitoring in place for the dosage you get. Plus, you can find all kinds of information about the side effects that come with them. And most people don’t wanna talk about side effects from lighting up those little smoky joysticks. Especially when one of the side effects can be murder.

I don’t like the way the left side of my body feels (or should I say doesn’t feel) at this point. But I’m not willing to sacrifice mental acuity for a false and temporary “warm glow.”

And I’m grateful to God for keeping me on that path throughout my life. That saved me a lot of money. And it also kept me from a potentially destructive lifestyle that could’ve been way worse than a stroke.

If you’d like to know a lot more about how harmful weed can be, let me know. And I’ll send you a link to some excellent peer reviewed information. It’s the same page where I got the list of names above.

See how many drug references you can find in the lyrics to this song I wrote way back in the 80s:

Nothin’s Gonna Happen To You

Well you’re human and it’s hum-drum
So you find yourself in front of a screen
The remote control slowly takes its toll
Then you’re thumbing through a magazine
Years a go you had to know
You had to stand out brave and true
You said, “Don’t wait for nothin’, or
Nothin’s gonna happen to you”.

You were Ghengis Khan and Napoleon
You were king of cool to all your friends
But the juggernaut fell into the pot
And so this is how the story ends
But I have to know what could change you so
I have to see what cut you through
And don’t tell me nothin’, or
Nothin’s gonna happen to you

Why the empty stare…nothin’ nothin’
Tension in the air…nothin’ nothin’
You just can’t admit…you’re too mortal to conquer it
And nothin’s gonna happen to you

Well, it’s so posh how you whitewash
And the truth starts falling through the crack
So your winter scheme is a broken dream

And the pieces stab you in the back
Time gone by can make you cry
And the tears can freeze inside your heart
But don’t obsess in that icy mess
Blow the danger and the pleasure apart
On the inner side it feels like a ride
And you rollercoast into the sky
But the outer side shows the demon lied
Give him anything to keep you high
Years from now they’ll wonder how
How it ever got to you
And I’ll just say “nothin’
Nothin’ ever happened to you.”

Streets of San Francisco are as healthy as Crisco

Do a Google search for “streets of San Francisco,” and you’ll probably only get results that point to the TV show from back in the 1970’s. And some of those results are links to videos of the opening credits from the original show.

Those streets of San Francisco certainly looked different than they do now.

Watch the opening credits closely enough and you’ll see snippets from the “bad side of town.” But that show was from a time when crime fighters at least tried to hold that boundary. So, the bad side, the seedy side, stayed put. Somewhat.

Fast forward 50 years, and I don’t think Michael Douglas or Karl Malden would recognize the city their characters once policed. Street zombies (I refuse to call them homeless people) are everywhere. But why shouldn’t they be? Free drugs. Freedom from prosecution when they steal in broad daylight. And free bathrooms on every street and even in elevators. Zombies love that stuff.

I watched a video that James Woods (Academy Award winning actor) shared on Twitter. And he posted a comment that said, “Guess which Democrat run hellhole this is. Hint: all of them.” It’s difficult to believe it’s America. The street zombies in the video look either demon possessed or void of a living soul.

It’s on a scale I could never have imagined when I was a kid.

But when you drug people up and dumb them down, how could the results be anything else?

Well, there IS a Way to fight it. The ONLY Way. And the Way is the person known as Jesus. But the very mention of His name (and the fact that I capitalize even the references to Him) is offensive to this world.

The “right politicians” aren’t the solution. They’ll most likely come up with a “$1 billion investment to address  homelessness.” Am I the only one who sees the idiotic irony? Address homelessness. Get it?

I’d rather eat a pan of biscuits made with Crisco than spend a second on the streets of San Francisco.

Over 30 years ago I wrote a song that talked about the end result of drugs. The lyrics are laced with drug references. And there are probably plenty, these days, I don’t know about. But the point is more valid now.

Nothin’s Gonna Happen To You

Well you’re human and it’s hum-drum,
So you find yourself in front of a screen.

But the juggernaut fell into the pot,
And so this is how the story ends.
But I have to know what could change you so.
I have to see what cut you through.
And don’t tell me “nothin,” or
Nothin’s gonna happen to you.

Why the empty stare…nothin’ nothin’.
Tension in the air…nothin’ nothin’.
You just can’t admit, you’re too mortal to conquer it
And nothin’s gonna happen to you.

Well, it’s so posh how you whitewash,

And I’ll just say “nothin”
Nothin’ ever happened to you.

The drugs don't work. Did you see that jerk?

I watched a couple of awful videos today. Somebody shared them on social media. More pieces of evidence that clearly show how the drugs don’t work. Well, unless the goal was to create more whacked-out freakazoids. And thieves and thugs. And maniacs and murderers. Yeah, if that was the goal, the drugs are on the mark.

But the drugs don’t work if the goal is something more benevolent.

And I know, without a shadow of a doubt that benevolence is not the goal of drug manufacturers. Nope. They’re after profits no matter how many lives have to be lost or taken. It should be clear, to anyone who has clear eyes to see, that the medicated masses are heading for hell. And laughing and cursing all the way.

The first video I watched show lots of people who looked like they were zapped with an invisible death ray. Most of them started to spin clockwise, them their arm would extend and stiffen. Then, they’d fall down and die. Typically with arms and legs extended in front of them. It was so weird to watch.

Then, the second video was a collection of people violently attacking other people. And even murdering them. One was a guy who shot another guy. And then walked past the guy he just shot, lying down on the sidewalk, and shot him in the head as he walked casually by as though he just picked a flower.

Have you noticed how people love puppies, but they hate other people? I firmly believe drugs, readily available everywhere, exacerbate that hatred. And a total lack of punishment for crimes actually compounds crimes.

When I punishment for crimes, I include behind-the-scenes crimes.

Those are the ones committed by drug companies and politicians and God-hating billionaires and crooked cops. And everyone else who helps perpetrate crimes against humanity and transfer the blame to others. All those people, and they vastly outnumber people who love God, who literally get away with murder.

Or do they?

Of course they do. But they won’t.

Sounds like I’m contradicting myself. Unless you’ve kept up with me and my worldview over the years. If you have, then you know I talk about righteous judgment and mercy from the one, true, living, loving Creator. Yes, no one can escape the ultimate judgment. You can’t anything to change that. The drugs don’t work.

And that gives me hope. I hope it gives you hope, too. Hope that knows this about people of this world:

You Just Don’t Get It

You want to live the way you want to live
And you want to be your own king
You think you’re wise enough to rule your world
And handle everything
But how much happiness is in your life
How many friends do you know
Who would give up their lives to give you yours
Do you think any would show

Well you idolize with your idle eyes
Your body wants what it wants, and you let it
You identify what you deify
You’ll see the kingdom, but you just don’t get it

You can’t submit to any higher will
You’d rather live in the dark
Well, you can have exactly what you say
Look where you’re making your mark

Chorus

Don’t you think you should think about it
Do you know all there is to know
There’s a choice; you can’t live without it
You can be sure where you’re gonna go…

inst…chorus…repeat to end

Whimsical writer, Tony Funderburk, wants to Learn to fly

I know this may tarnish my image as a world-class cool singer songwriter forever, but I’ll say it anyway…

I’ve never done drugs…not even pot.

Whew! There. I said it. I can see my subscribers fleeing to find another much cooler singer songwriter to follow. G’bye everyone. I hope you’ll come back some day. Please don’t tell anyone else what you’ve read here today.

That’s all I ask.

OK…why did I never do drugs? (for anyone who may still be here and reading) Well, I can’t take the credit. I give that to God. Thankfully I connected with Him when I was 13, and I wanted to do things and live life in a way that pleased Him. Don’t get me wrong…I didn’t succeed all the time…far from it. But during my teenage-mind-of-mush years I did pretty well. At least well enough to stay away from the substances that would have changed who I was.

After I became a professional musician and singer songwriter I had lots (and I mean lots) of opportunities to partake…especially pot and cocaine. I remember a time I was playing a very popular spot in Atlanta, Georgia. A very nice looking girl came up to me when I was on break, and said “follow me”. OK…I’m a guy, so I did. We went into another room where she pulled out her cocaine and offered me some. It felt really weird. I said “no thanks” and that I had to get back to work.

And lots of times guys would come to tell me how good they thought I was. They’d shake my hand and there’d be a doobie in it. Yeesh. If they only knew how I’d go flush it down the toilet.

Back in the 80’s these things were commonplace in the circles I played. So I wrote a song about it. If you’re an email subscriber, you’ll get my original hotel room recording mp3. This is it…

Christian singer songwriter, Tony Funderburk, shares his song "Fly By Night"
