If you’ve spent even a little bit of time online, you’ve probably noticed a common “item” in the world of internet marketing. And you might have taken advantage of it more than once. I have. In fact, I have one of these on the opening page of TonyFunderburk.com. Of course I’m talking about the almost ubiquitous free offer. And marketers use it all the time for one simple reason. It works.

Who doesn’t love a free offer? Or a free gift?

And in this digital age, you can get a lot of those freebies almost instantaneously. And all you need is an email address. It’s really pretty cool when you think about it. Because people have been able literally change their whole lives just by using the information in a digital freebie.

(Side note: I don’t believe my free offer will change your whole life. But it’ll put a smile on somebody’s face.)

People, from just about every walk of life, have had great success by gathering up lots of fans, followers, clients, and customers with their offers. But not just because of the offer. They had to deliver on their promises. And the ones who do reap the most benefits.

But I’ll bet 99% of the entrepreneurs, business owners, and website operators are clueless as to who started the whole free offer thing. And you gotta go back in time, way past the days of the internet to see where it originated. In fact, you gotta go back in time, way past the days of TV…or radio…or even newspaper.

Right about now, if you’ve followed me on my website, or in my emails, or on my The Power of God’s Love Podcast, you might be thinking, “Uh-oh…I think Tony’s gonna talk about that free gift of salvation that Jesus provided.” Right?

Well that’s the most expensive “free offer” in the history of the universe…to be sure. But no, you gotta go back in time, even way past Jesus on Earth, or papyrus and scrolls. And keep going back past the time of multiple languages and different “races, creeds, and customs.”

And your wayback time travel machine should only stop when you reach the garden of Eden.

Paradise on Earth.

The original free offer. Eternal life in paradise. Right here on our beautiful blue planet.

When you read about the six days of creation (a literal six days, by the way), you see how God created the universe, all the planets and stars, and everything else on Earth. And He finished His creative work with His masterpieces.

A man. And a woman.

And the first thing He did was to offer the whole world to them. Free. They could live in paradise forever. And they could simply enjoy all the fruits from all the trees in their garden paradise. Sort of like a permanent vacation. All the trees, that is, except for one. God told them if they ate from that one tree, they’d die.

Now, you might think that would be enough to keep them away from that tree. But you’d be wrong.

Because, sure enough, they made a beeline for that tree. Well, not really. But yeah, kinda.

But think about it from their perspective for just a minute. They were the first two people. And they had never seen anybody die. So, they probably couldn’t get their minds around the concept of death. “We’ll die if we eat the fruit from this tree? What’s that even mean?

Of course, the fault in their logic was that they should’ve just listened to God. And they should’ve just obeyed. Because, like all free offers, somebody’s gotta pay. Free is a concept. Not a reality. Because somebody always pays.

And even God’s first free offer…which was the first one ever…was paid for.

First, by Adam and Eve. But even more importantly, when they disobeyed God, they triggered His contingency plan. And that plan required the most expensive payment there ever was or ever will be. And there would be only one person who could or would ever be able to afford it.

The One who still offers eternal life to anyone who wants it.

For Free.

Because Jesus made the payment
You can live forevermore
In paradise…in His love.
So, what are you waiting for?

Stay tuned,

The highest price ever paid for anything was paid for you

What was the highest price ever paid for anything?

It wasn’t that nearly billion dollar airplane or that $4.5 billion luxury yacht. And it wasn’t even that $15 billion building in Saudi Arabia. None of those even come close to being a tiny fraction of the highest price ever paid for anything. No, the most expensive thing ever purchased was your eternal life. And get this…it was paid for by one man. But he wasn’t the billionaire du jour. (You can listen to this on the Rhyme and Reason Podcastright here)

The highest price ever paid for anything was paid for you

You’re supposed to pay your own way in this world…right?

All religions (and worldviews) require your good deeds in order to “go to a better place” when you die. Or reach a higher plane of enlightenment. All religions, that is, but one. You’ve no doubt heard, when so-and-so died, how he or she was “a good person” so naturally he or she is in a better place. Right? Well, there’s one religion that says no one is good except God. That must be the intolerant, mean religion. Right?

What if I told you that was the religion where God was willing to pay the highest price ever paid for anything? And what if I told you that price was His life? His eternal life. And He paid it for YOU and ME.

You and I don’t have that much to give.

God saw how awful we humans were and are…over and over again. So, He almost destroyed the whole planet and everyone on it with a worldwide flood. But He didn’t completely destroy it because of one man, Noah. God decided to start all over again with Noah and his family. And things have been peachy keen ever since.

Yeah, right.

About 2000 years ago, your Creator decided to take matters into His own hands. His physical hands. But He didn’t have physical hands because, from eternity past, He was always the life-giving, Holy Spirit God. However, He designed a way to get the hands, feet, and body He needed to save us from ourselves. He became a man and dwelled among us. For about 33 years. And He is now, forever, the Man, Jesus. In other words, He is now fully a man, and will be fully a man forever into the future.

Giving up what He had always known and been, in order to save you and me from ourselves, Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice and paid the highest price ever paid for anything. Are you willing to show Him how much you appreciate it?

Here are the lyrics to a song I wrote about that price. Listen to the song on this episode of the The Power of God’s Love Podcast. Or get a higher quality recording of it on the Raise The Praise CD.

Your Body Your Blood

Lord, I let You down,
So Lord I’m awfully glad
You loved me anyway”
You gave up all You had.
I fail here in the flesh”
This flesh that pulls me down,
And yet You say I’ll have
An imperishable crown.

I’m so relieved”my spirit has received
The only One who saves my sinful soul.
You died for me”and did so willingly.
Your body”Your blood has made me whole.
(repeat)

Lord, You lift me up,
And Lord You make me fly
Above this fallen world
Into Your Grace on high.
Forever in Your debt,
You paid the highest price.
I know I don’t deserve
How I get to be born twice.

repeat chorus 4 times to end

It makes perfect sense to buy insurance for your car or house or other personal reasons.

Writer singer illustrator, Tony Funderburk, says eternal life with God makes the Most Perfect Sense

It makes the most perfect sense to get eternal insurance that’s already been paid for. I mean…c’mon…if you believe your “stuff” is important enough to insure…don’t you believe your soul is, to?

Let’s just say, for the sake of illustration of a point, that I’m right about humans having an eternal existence. I know it sounds crazy, but work with me for a couple of minutes. OK, we have an eternal existence to either look forward to or dread. We can look forward to it if and when we trust that someone already bought and paid for the trip, the accommodations, and everything else we’ll ever need.

We can dread that future eternal existence if we find out we have to pay for it all ourselves and the payment plan is never-ending. Talk about dread!

Back in 1969 I put my soul in the hands of my Creator. I latched onto eternal insurance, and I’ve never made a single payment…and I never will. Jesus already paid up my account. And He promised me eternity in paradise with Him. If I’m wrong about my decision to go this way, then I’ll end up being a total dork one day. But with all the intellect I have…with all the feelings I experience…with all the knowledge of all the mountains of evidence I’ve discovered, I’m totally confident I’ve made a wise decision. It makes the…

Most Perfect Sense

I don’t feel the way I used to feel.
And I don’t look the way I used to look.
I don’t say the things that I used to say.
And I don’t even read the same book.
I don’t push and shove or try to force my love
Or put a non-believer in a mode of self-defense.
I’m just looking toward the Light.
I’m not looking for a fight,
And it’s making the most perfect sense.
I can hear new songs. I can feel new beats,
And the music clears the cogs in my head.
It’s a minuet and then it’s rhythm and blues,
And then it’s altogether different instead.
I persevere to bring it all in clear,
And I pray that I transmit with an air of recompense.
I found the Key to the soul in me,
And it’s making the most perfect sense.
Most perfect…most perfect sense…
Not just a job or house or white picket fence.
Most perfect…most perfect sense…
I’m talking life that doesn’t have any tense.
It’s the most perfect sense…
To me.
