Safe and loving place is a total disgrace

She wrote a book telling you how to give a baby a safe and loving place. And the excerpt I read is so sickeningly sweet I think I got a cavity from just reading it. It’s just plain awful.

Yeah, you read that right. That “sweet” book is awful.

What could be awful about giving a baby a safe and loving place?

Well, nothing. But Marisa (I’m leaving out her last name because I don’t wanna promote her book) didn’t write a book about a safe and loving place for a baby. Even though she thinks she did.

But she didn’t. Because the baby she writes about is YOU.

Yeah. I’m not kidding. Take this excerpt from chapter 9 of her book. She calls the chapter “Dorian.” And she says the “theme or technique” is how to “become your own loving parent.” Here’s what she said…

“Guiding you through this meditation, I will ask you to imagine a similar scenario to Dorian: Going to claim the baby that was you, picking up that baby in your arms, and taking that baby home to a safe and loving place. Allow the powerful visualization to help you become a loving parent to yourself, upgrade your inner child, and finally merge it with your present-day self so you don’t have to be so scared and vigilant anymore.”

I don’t know Marisa.

But I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out she prefers her “wisdom” over God’s. And I wouldn’t be at all surprised to find out she’s “pro choice.” Because so many people who focus on their inner child tend to have zero compassion for actual inner children. And, of course, I refer to the children still inside their mothers’ wombs.

It’s ironic, to say the least. And moronic, to say the worst.

Because it’s completely antithetical to what God inspired the apostle Paul to write. He told a group of new believers, in the city of Corinth, to “put away childish things.”

The point is, you gotta grow up.

I totally understand how childhood years go by way too fast. It was a great time when I was a kid and someone else had to pay the bills and provide food and shelter. But that part of your life is short. And I’m mighty glad. Because that’s the time you’re a slave.

Yes, when you become a man or a woman, the responsibilities are all on you. But YOU get to decide what you’ll do. Every. Single. Day. Daddy and mommy don’t get to tell you what to do anymore.

It’s great.

Why would you wanna go back to being a slave?

Why would you wanna go back at all? Especially if your childhood was less than wonderful. Because no amount of mental cuddling is ever gonna change one minute of your past. And it makes you look silly in the here and now.

My suggestion is to man up. Or woman up. And move forward, mentally and emotionally. Because it’s the only direction you can actually go, physically. And it’s the only direction time flows. Ahead.

Go with it. And I highly recommend you go with God. Because that’s the only way you can truly find and enjoy a safe and loving place. Best part is…it’s forever.

Givin’ up, givin’ in…not a whimper, no shout.
Now the climate is warm, and the fools come out.
Get in touch with yourself and the innermost child,
And the “still small voice” is cast away; exiled.

(from the song, “Worldview”)

How to Walk in the Words of God

Would you like to discover how to walk in the words of God? Does that sound funny? Maybe it’s easy to think about how you walk in the woods. Or walk in the park. Or walk in the mall? But walking in words? How does anybody do that? Well, you don’t do it with your feet? Uh-oh…now it really sounds funny, doesn’t it? Well keep reading.

When mom says you get to go to the park, you start imagining it right away…don’t you? You can see yourself there…playing in the sand, swinging on the swings, running across the grass. Your mom just says the words, “Hey sweetie, you wanna go to the park?” And those words make pictures dance inside your brain. Pretty coo, huh? That’s sort of what it’s like to walk in the words of God. You open up a Bible, read some of the words, and pictures start appearing in your head.

How about walking in these words?

Maybe you read the story of Noah building the ark, and you can almost see yourself helping him gather wood. Or you read of Daniel in the lions den, and you can see their big, hungry fangs. Or maybe you read about the apostle Paul traveling around to tell everyone about Jesus. And you can almost see yourself walking on the same gravel roads or dirt paths he walked. Each time your mind makes those pictures, it’s like you’re walking in the words of God. Here’s a secret you trust. Walking in the words of God is the best place to walk. You should go there everyday. In fact, you should stay there. Because that’s the only place that’s always good…God’s word.

I hope this pumps you up to discover what God’s word says to you and about you. If you read some of His words, today…and some pictures form inside your head, would you write to me and share them with me? I’d like that. And here’s a rhyme to help you remember…

Walking in the words of God
Is like walking in a clear, blue sky.
Truth is in the words of God
For all your questions, why.

Swallowed Up By Life

Tony Funderburk Posted on May 18, 2014 by TonyMay 27, 2018
Writer singer illustrator, Tony Funderburk, would rather be Swallowed Up By Life than choose death.

If you’re alive and reading this, then it might sound odd to say a phrase like “swallowed up by life”.

Writer singer illustrator, Tony Funderburk, would rather be Swallowed Up By Life than choose death.

Imagine, for a moment, that there really is a Heaven…a paradise…where you can live forever in a body that will never grow old and die. You don’t have to believe it’s true right now. Just imagine.

Now…you know without a doubt there are no people here on Earth who aren’t getting older and dying. Right? I’ve seen it happen to everyone since I’ve been around, and that’s starting to be a long time. OK, this life here on Earth only lasts for a little while. Then we die. And depending on what you believe, either everyone’s going to a better place…or some are and some are not…or we all just vaporize into black nothingness.

But, like I said…imagine for a moment that you actually CAN go where life lasts forever. Well, if you think about it from that perspective, this temporary existence here and now is really nothing compared to that. This “death” we all have to experience will actually get swallowed up by life, eternal life that is.

If there’s even the remotest possibility of that happening, I want in on it.

Well, lean in a little bit, and I’ll tell you a very poorly kept secret…it can happen. And it’s as close as your very breath. With the words you speak you can change your eternal destiny from one of torment to one of paradise in the presence of the One who gave you Life in the first place.

It’s uncanny and pitifully sad how many full-grown adults…with access to basically all the current information in the world…could choose to throw eternal life away.

Here’s my perspective…if I’m wrong about this, I’m gonna look like (and be) a great big fool one of these days. But here’s a question to ponder…are you willing to say that about your worldview? If not, then you’re holding onto something for a reason other than evidence. That doesn’t sound like good logic to me. But then, who am I? Just another silly writer singer illustrator who gives credit for his whimsical words and music and pictures to the One who spoke words and the whole universe sprang into existence.

I’ll be swallowed up by life
That will never fade away
When I leave my body here
On an ordinary day.
I won’t mourn the things I lose
‘Cause there’s so much more to gain
And my spirit will rejoice
When I leave this earthly plane.
I’ll be swallowed up by life
And I’ll never more know death.
I will just begin to breathe
When I breathe my final breath.
