Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Tony Funderburk Posted on November 23, 2014 by TonyFebruary 18, 2024
Great Is Thy Faithfulness: the old hymn is still right on the money.

If you’ve been around a few decades, and you’ve gone to a Bible believing church, I feel pretty certain you’ve heard the old hymn, “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. And if you’re young and think it might be too corny or old-fashioned to sing such an old hymn with a bunch of thee’s, thy’s, and thou’s, it might interest you to know…Elvis Presley even sang … Read the rest…

I Am A Stranger in the Earth

Tony Funderburk Posted on November 22, 2014 by TonyNovember 22, 2014
Even though I Am A Stranger In The Earth God never leaves me nor forsakes me.

Daily this “earthen vessel” challenges me to a duel. And daily it reminds me why I am a stranger in this earth. But that’s OK because I’m not alone in this journey. And I’m not without power. Do you sometimes (or often) feel the temptation to simply give up and give in? I think it’s almost a rhetorical question because I’m sure everyone does … Read the rest…

The One Who Lifts Up My Head

Jesus is The One who Lifts Up My Head

Remember those very special days, back in school, when you’d get a brand new pair of shoes? Remember how you’d walk to school looking down at those shiny dress shoes or those sparkling sneakers? It was nearly impossible to not look down. You had to make sure no scuff marks were there…or wipe off any dirt on your pants. I thought about those “looking … Read the rest…

You'll be wise when you start Walking With The Wise men of the Bible.

Have you ever read a book and gotten so involved you felt like you were right  there with one or more of the characters? You could almost smell the new-mown grass they smelled. Or taste the full-bodied espresso in that bistro with the colorful, unframed paintings of sunsets by a local artist. In other words your mind filled up with word pictures. Imagine, if … Read the rest…

The best thing I could ask from the Lord is to give me wisdom.

I’ve had a number of brand new cars in my life. And I’ve enjoyed the luxury of a large house with plenty of nice furnishings. At times you could see I was not denying myself the pleasures of multiple performance tools like keyboards, computers, sound systems, and various accoutrements. (I always wanted to use that word somewhere) But all the “stuff” pales in comparison … Read the rest…

National Adoption Day reminds us we all can be adopted...if we choose.

This coming Saturday, November 22 2014, is National Adoption Day. And November is National Adoption Month. You may not realize there are over 100,000 kids in foster homes waiting for a permanent home. And the “National Adoption Day” organization has already helped over 50,000 kids find homes. There’s a very important reason I think this is so meaningful… …think of all the countless human … Read the rest…

When you really sleepy and can't sleep, you truly understand the saying "No Rest For The Weary".

Sometimes you might feel like you couldn’t possibly feel more tired. Then you realize you have to keep going a little longer. That’s when the old saying “no rest for the weary” truly dawns on you. I’ve got a couple of Labrador retrievers, and they’re almost 12 years old. If you’ve ever had any interaction with a Lab, you know how much they love … Read the rest…
