How long will wrong be so strong?

How long? More than just a question

One day, back in 1975, I was driving on a small highway in Kansas with my radio on. I know…what are the odds? And I remember a song started playing, and I liked it before it got past the first couple of measures. Because it started with a simple bass line, added a simple drumbeat, and then added an electric piano. And then, one of my favorite vocalists (didn’t know it at the time), Paul Carrack, started singing with the question, “How long…has this been going on?”

How long will wrong be so strong?

Most people, me included, thought How Long was a song about infidelity.

And, it was that kind of song. But not like most people thought. I just read, recently, where it said the song was written about one of the band members, in the group, Ace, had been secretly working with other bands. A lot of band members consider that a serious no-no.

“You’ve been cheating on us behind our backs.” That’s sort of how bands think of one of their own dividing his time with other bands. And so, pretty much the standard question that pops out is, “How long has this been going on?”

We humans are very concerned with matters of time. Because we have so little of it. Relatively speaking. So, it only stands to reason we wanna know how long something’s gonna take. Or last. Or be.

And a king, from about 2500 years ago had the same question for God.

King David experienced a personal relationship with God in a way almost no one else ever did or ever has. But he committed some serious sins, adultery and murder, and deeply damaged his connection with God.

And King David wondered how long God would “forget” him.

Of course, God didn’t forget David. But He probably decided David should see how it felt to be deeply hurt. After all ideas and actions have consequences. Even for kings.

Your ideas and actions, about God, will have consequences, too. Are you prepared to deal with those? And I mean, are you prepared to deal with them forever? I hope so. Because that’s how long they’ll last.

Time is of the essence.
In fact, it’s running out.
So, read a Bible today.
And see what God’s about.

Stay tuned,

Morning lullaby unless the sun gets in your eye

Morning Lullaby

What? Whoever heard of a morning lullaby? And who wants to go to sleep in the morning anyway? No, it’s not actually like that at all. You know me. I get these silly notions in my head, and I’m just liable to write ’em down. And most of the time it’s just excuses to stay in touch with you and let you in on some of the things I’ve been working on. Or what I’ve got hangin’ around on the old external hard drive.

And this so-called morning lullaby is one of those times.

On my The Power of God’s Love Podcast, I’ve been dropping some not-so-subtle hints about something I’ll be sharing soon. And it’ll be available here and on Amazon. It’s gonna be a fun book and CD combo for kids. And it’s based on my “Bedtime Buckaroos” collection of western themed lullaby songs.

Some of the songs have been featured on the podcast. But other episodes (like this one) will only have samples of the rest of the songs. So, when you get a chance, check ’em out. I know your kids, grandkids, nieces, or nephews will love ’em. Lots of other kids from  across America have enjoyed them already.

Till Mornin’ Skies

Pull down the shades
Put a good fluff in the pillow
Mockingbird singsӬFrom a limb out on the willow.
Bullfrogs and bugs
And a blue-eyed armadillo
Play the music all night…
Everything’s gonna be alright…
So close your eyes till mornin’ skies.

Moonbeams and dreams
You can almost hear ’em glisten
Stars become chimes
Lay your head down and just listen
Wise owl looks on
To make sure that nothin’s missin’
For the song of the night
Everything has to be just right
Now close your eyes till mornin’ skies.

Mornin’ skies will bring a brand new day, but
Mornin’ skies are still eight hours away”

So: (repeat 1st verse)

Resurrection Sunday 2020 for more than the cognoscenti

Happy Resurrection Sunday 2020

As I do every year, I’m gonna share my song, The Way, with a link to the video I made way back in 2011. And I’d like to think maybe somebody, who’s not already a Christian, will see it and change their eternal destination. Not because of my song. Or anything to do with me. But because of who it’s talking about. It would be awesome to think I helped even one person celebrate Resurrection Sunday 2020 in a way they never did before.

Resurrection Sunday 2020 isn’t gonna be the same as years past.

But you don’t need a special “Easter Sunrise Service” or some special church presentation to celebrate or remember. In fact, in some ways those might be distractions from the real reason this day means so much.

Here’s an excellent video Sunday service that shows an awesome way to connect our current pandemic with resurrection.

As much as I always enjoyed the chocolates, the colored eggs, and Easter baskets when I was growing up, Easter is so much more. Infinitely more. Because it’s the day the whole world, whether they know it or not, acknowledges Jesus rising from the dead. And that was after suffering unthinkable torture and death. Hung from a wooden cross with nails through his hands and feet.

All that suffering after being found not guilty in a so-called “court of law.”

The Way

And it came to pass one day on a mountain far away
That a soul was taken and a life forsaken
Because someone had to pay
For the heart of all mankind.
There was no untarnished mind.
So one life was spent Who was innocent,
But He left His Word behind…

Forgive them for they know not what they do.
Redeem them and I give My Blood to You.
We can rise up
No matter how much the guilt might weigh.
He said…”I am the Way!”

Now so many years have gone
And we love with blinders on.
How we tolerate is a form of hate.
Where’s the Rock He stood upon?
For the Truth is absolute and it’s foolish to dispute.
It confounds the wise but it opens eyes,
And it saves the destitute

Chorus

Now don’t turn to the left don’t turn to the right.
Just run straight to Him with all your might!

Isolation booth where I share the truth

Isolation booth of truth

Christians are about to celebrate the holiest day of the year. The rest of the world is, too. But they just don’t know it. Tomorrow is Resurrection Sunday. Also known as Easter. And here in my isolation booth (aka studio) I’ve been sharing that Truth for years. It’s an honor and privilege to have this digital platform. And I feel truly blessed to be able to keep it going.

An isolation booth is nothing new for musicians.

I’ve been in soundproof booths many times over the course of my singing and songwriting career. And I’ve worked from my office in my home for a lot of that time, too. So, I was isolating before it was “cool.”  😉

As a Christian (from the age of 13) I’ve never felt entirely alone. Not even when I used to travel, solo, hundreds, and even thousands, of miles a week for work. And I recall lots of times when I’d take a long drive somewhere just to see it and write about it. Of course, I was a “free and single” crazy guy back then. But it gave me life experiences and life lessons I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Well, maybe I’d trade a couple of them. But only for something I could resell.  🙂

And I’ve shared some of them here on the website and on my The Power of God’s Love Podcast. In fact, when you listen to the podcast, you’ll hear lots of episodes that include music recorded in “band rooms” and motels across America.

Anyway…

The reason I brought it all up is because that’s the direction most Christians will be looking tomorrow especially. UP. And if you don’t yet have that hope of your own personal resurrection, I hope you’ll choose eternal life before it’s too late.

And if this current pandemic situation teaches you anything, it should be that you never know when “too late” will be.

So…

Raise your voice, make that choice today.
On your knees you can ease your way
Into life with your Creator. So, don’t put it off till later.
Up to you, all you do is pray.

Stay tuned,

Tony Funderburk talks about his isolation booth

Sing along songs for little buckaroos

Way back in history…all the way back to the early 2000’s…there lived a seasoned songwriter. And he wrote whole collections of sing along songs for kids. Parents from far and near would buy those songs on little pieces of round plastic called CD’s. And their kids loved ’em.

The songwriter sang lots of sing along songs, personalized songs, and lullabies.

And one of the most popular CD’s was called “Bedtime Buckaroos.” But you could only listen to the songs on those little pieces of round plastic, called CD’s. Because there were no words included. And parents asked him to come up with a way to share the words, too.

So, the seasoned songwriter looked high and low for a solution. And one day he exclaimed to himself, “A-ha! I have it. I’ll publish a book with all the words to the songs. But I’ll also make it a drawing and coloring book. Kids love that. And he started right away.

And he began the work of collecting the words, putting them in the right order, and adding pictures. There were songs about ponies, eagles, coyotes, buffaloes, stars, angels, and even a blue-eyed armadillo. It was a lot to gather up. Finally, after days of organizing, he had the pages to the book all ready to publish.

Then, he jumped in his digital delivery rocket and zoomed into the Amazon, a big jungle of books from all around the world. And there were so many other books, the seasoned songwriter wasn’t sure if anyone could ever find his. But, he wasn’t the kind of songwriter who’d let that stop him.

So, he beamed the words and pictures into the upload portal straight to those gigantic digital bookshelves.

Now, the songwriter knew it wouldn’t be right to make people buy the music and the words separately. So, he decided to make it all easy to get in one place.

But you’ll have to wait to see where that place is.

Because it’ll be a special place only special people will know about. Good news is…you’re one of those special people. And the seasoned songwriter will soon let you know where to find it all. In the meantime…

Sing about laughing and smiling today.
Don’t let anything get in your way.
Remember that you’re a unique design.
And singing helps you be a friend of mine.

You should jump on the The TRUTH and be part of the growing band of ne’er-do-wells who understand that life has Rhyme and Reason because God made us.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get less. You might get more.

Be careful…wishes might come true

I talked about this about five years ago. But it’s still just as true as ever. You might be wishing for things to happen. Or not happen. And you might be wishing and hoping for things you’d be much better without. So, it’s mighty important to be careful with your wishes.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get less. You might get more.

And when I say careful, I mean full of care.

A woman I know, who will remain nameless, often “wishes” her whole life was different. Because she thinks that would make everything better. But is it true? Do you think YOU would be a different person if only your circumstances were different?

Well, I can tell you this woman I’m talking about probably wouldn’t see much difference in her life. At least not in the important matters. But she’s clueless when it comes to what’s truly important. And what would that be?

Relationships.

Not money. And certainly not all the “things” money can buy. Don’t misunderstand me. Because I know how much better your quality of life can be with money. But only if you first understand relationships. And how it important it is to nurture them. If you don’t know how to do that when you’re broke, it won’t magically happen for you when you’re wealthy.

So, I hope, as you have some extra time to ponder the big and little things in life right now, you focus on what’s real. And important. And focus on how you can serve and love your neighbor. If that’s not on your radar, then…

Be Careful What You Wish For

You’ve got a house and your privacy;
A brand new car; you’re in the driver’s seat,
But you believe there’s a bigger dream you have to follow…
And so you work for your daily bread
And wish for something that could get you ahead
Because losing the race would be such a hard pill to swallow

Be careful what you wish for…
Look out “˜cause it might come true…
You never, ever really know what’s in store
So be careful…be careful what you wish for

She feeds the kids and sends “˜em off to school
She never breaks or even bends a rule
But in her mind she’s convinced that something is missing
And so she spends what her husband makes
And doesn’t think about the toll it takes
Her mother tried to tell her once, but she wouldn’t listen

Chorus

Now that old world can get its hands on you
But only if you stop and let it
You have the right to change your mind
But somebody might just regret it…don’t forget it

Chorus to end

It’s more like, who is Timbuk Toys? And it’s just a place where little kids can get just about any toy their little hearts desire. You know. A toy store. In the Denver, Colorado metro area. And they used to have something only a select group of toys stores in the whole world had.

Timbuk Toys used to have personalized songs for kids by none other than me.

Yeah, back in the early 2000’s, moms, dads, grandmas, and other family members used to buy these special gifts for their special kids. You might have heard of ’em. They were called CD’s. And I sold thousands of them through my website and several toy stores in Colorado.

Believe it or not, they’re actually still available right here on TonyFunderburk.com. Yeah, as amazing and unbelievable as it might sound, you can still get CD’s of my unique, original music for kids. And you can still order them. Of course, I make them available as downloads, too. But who wants a heartless download when you can get songs the old-fashioned way? On something you can touch and feel. Something you can look at and see. Yeah, much better.

The lyrics to the Timbuk song are below. And tune in to the Rhyme and Reason podcast to hear it, too.

Timbuk Toys

All the time you think about
That place where the fun falls out.
Clock stops and time sure flies
Nice hello’s and no goodbye’s.

My, my what a stroke of luck…
When you wind up in Timbuk.
Everything that a kid enjoys…
Play all day with the Timbuk Toys.

In the land of make-believe
Everything you can conceive
Super powers…magic lands
All right there in your magic hands.

Eyes light up and the smiles do show
When you finally get to go
Where Timbuk girls and Timbuk boys
Play all day with the Timbuk Toys.

I remember, almost eight years ago, Elgielene and I had lunch in a little downtown spot in Golden, Colorado. It was called the Windy Saddle Cafe. Small town atmosphere, fresh made food, and good coffee. As we waited for our food, that first time, we checked out the place. It even had a place in the back where small kids (little buckaroos) could play with toys. We enjoyed our lunch, and sometime later I wrote a song for the place.

And I even played music for the Windy Saddle Cafe night crowd.

Yeah, the owner liked the song, when I sent her a link to listen to it. And she invited me to play on a Saturday night. They had a large group of mostly families with kids. And we invited some of our friends. So, it ended up being a nice, little concert. Of course, I played the windy saddle song. Three times as I recall. Because it was requested. Not because I’m vain.  🙂

The reason I bring it up, eight years later, is, coincidentally the restaurant popped up in search results when I was looking up something only slightly related. Naturally I had to click the link. And when I saw the website, it made me think of those moments.

Nice thoughts. And here are the lyrics to the song. Plus, tune in to the The Power of God’s Love Podcast and you can hear it.

Windy Saddle

As the breezes blow ‘cross the canyon trail
And the half moon smiles just a half a smile,
I can see a place where I’ll make my camp
And it’s up ahead just a half a mile.

Well, my horse is tired, but then so am I
And a million leaves start to serenade.
But I can’t bed down till the work’s all done
And the beans are cooked and the coffee’s made.

I can see a dip in the mountainside
Where the wind shakes the pines like a rattle,
But no matter where I roam or ride
I dream best in the cool windy saddle.

Now, the night falls low on the paintbrush blooms,
And the campfire light fades to ember glow…
It’s times like this that caress my soul,
And I know that I’ll always remember so.

(chorus)
But no matter where I roam or ride
I’ll come back to the cool, windy saddle.

How to make a zillion dollars online in less than one day

Increase online sales with this
often overlooked tip

Let’s say you already have a website for your local business. And let’s also say you’re building a loyal audience. They love what you’re doing, and when they can, they stop in and buy from you. But maybe over on your website you’re hearing crickets instead of Ka-Ching! I’m gonna let you in on a little secret to help you increase online sales using something you already have.

Does your current traffic increase online sales?

Probably not. Because if it did, you probably wouldn’t be reading this. And since you’ve gone to all the trouble of designing and building a website, and since you’re paying to host your website, wouldn’t you love to get more sales from it?

Well, even if you’re paying somebody to get you tons more traffic”and even if it’s working, traffic isn’t necessarily the answer. If you don’t have a vital action for your visitors to take, what’s the use of having more visitors? So, the important first step for doing better with your website is to be sure you have something in place to help you build and maintain your audience.

And that’s where this overlooked tip comes in.

Somewhere in the very top of your website, you should have your phone number. In large font. Easy to see and easy to tap with your thumb.

Wow, is that complicated or what?!

It might seem like a tiny, dorky detail. But I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard a website owner ask, “What did you do? We’re getting more calls!”Imagine that. Putting a phone number where it’s super easy to see and click or tap and getting a lot more calls as a result.

I told you it was a “little secret.”

OK, in order to increase your online sales, here’s your mission.

Go put your phone number up in the top corner of your website today. Not tomorrow. Today. So you can start getting more calls tomorrow. And I know you can sell your products, services, and information, so more calls means more sales. Right?!

Be sure to let me know how it worked out for you.

Music producer for an audience. Sure it sounds silly but it makes sense.

I’ve become a music producer for an audience.

Actually I guess I should say I’ve become a music producer for another audience. At least potentially, at this time. And that’s what all the talk about private label products was about. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, click that there link there. <

Music producer for an audience. Sure it sounds silly but it makes sense.

It’s funny how the term “music producer” is now synonymous with singer songwriter.

Not funny ha-ha. Funny odd. Or a nonsensibly sensible. (yeah, I just made that up)

Anyway…I’m in the third week of a 60 day music challenge. I’m part of a group of musicians who want to write and compose music for an actual paying audience. (collective *GASP*) I know. It’s crazy. But there are some of us musicians and singer-songwriter types who’d like to be paid for our hard-earned skills. Sure, music is supposed to be free for everybody. So, I guess we should just shut up and produce. But golly gee, Wally! Where’s the harm in makin’ a few bucks. Especially if non-musical types, like rappers, get to.

“That’s just mean, Tony.”

Well, I just went back through my notes. And I don’t have anything reminding me to be a broke nice guy singer songwriter.

So, I figure since companies and businesses, through the years, have paid me thousands of dollars to compose personalized music for them, why not kick that up a notch or two.

And I found a way to do that. Mind you, it requires me to get my fingers creatively wrapped around the two sets of keys again. My music keyboard. And my computer keyboard. Not to simply talk about writing songs. And not to just write about and replay songs I wrote for another audience in a another phase of my life.

I’m considering sharing some short tunes here and on my podcast.

What do you think? Would you be interested in staying in the loop with new music for this new audience I’m taking about?

If you’d like to hear some songs, let me know.
If you’d really rather not, just say no.
Either way I gotta say that I’m hard at work today
Makin’ music, so I really gotta go.

Ups and downs and burdens and crowns

Every life is full of ups and downs

I’ve mentioned, before, how I worked hard labor during my teenage summers. No, not in prison. How could you even think that? And I’m looking at YOU when I ask that. You know who you are. Anyway…I hauled hay. In the hot, Kansas sun. Up to 18 hours for five, six, and sometimes seven days a week. It kept me slim and made me strong. But what does that have to do with life’s ups and downs?

Ups and downs and burdens and crowns

As strong as I became, I wasn’t immune to life’s ups and downs.

Continuing on to my 20’s, 30’s, and even into my 40’s I was quite the physical specimen. If I do say so myself, and apparently I just did. Matter of fact, my wife can attest how I used to haul my upright piano around by myself. She’s too small to help when it came to lifting it up into the truck. And anytime we moved (which was a lot) it was nothing for me to carry couches and stuffed chairs by myself.

So, I bragged on myself and shared those “ups” with you to illustrate a point. In my late 30’s I started feeling like my neck was always out of joint, so to speak. I’d go to chiropractors for adjustments. But nothing seemed to help. This went on for a few years. And occasionally I’d pick up something heavy, and my whole back would just seize up on me.

Then, one day in my mid 40’s, after experiencing a numb tingling in my right hand for a while, I decided to go to another doctor. And he sent me to have a CT-scan. And the scan discovered a tumor on my spinal cord. Our primary doctor referred me to a specialist surgeon in Denver, and Elgielene and I went to see him.

After looking at the CT-scan, the specialist surgeon told us we needed to “get your house in order.” He said my choices were to have the operation to remove the tumor, or total paralysis, or death. And those were some attention-getting words.

Elgielene and I left his office not saying anything. And when we got in our van, she looked over at me and said, “Well, can you believe that just happened?” And we laughed…a little. Maybe out of nervousness. But we began taking some things one step at a time.

That was one of life’s downs.

Instead of boring you with all the operation and recovery details, I’ll just say this. I’ve lived a bunch of years since then. And that’s one of life’s ups. More years to be with my beautiful wife. And more time to experience this gift of life from God.

My story is just one of millions of similar stories. But the sad news…the news I know is so much more depressing…is how many people go through similar things with no connection to God. They already don’t have hope of eternal life. And then they find out a lot of hope is swept out from under them in this temporal life, too.

I can’t imagine (and I don’t want to imagine) not having the hope of eternal life.

My hope for you, today, is that you already have that hope. And if not, I hope you’ll latch onto it sooner rather than later. If the current events don’t show you what a vapor this life is, I hate to think what it would take.

Give yourself a break you’ll never regret.
And do it today before you forget.
God can give you ups and cover your downs.
Give up your burdens. Replace them with crowns.

Stay tuned,

Dreams written down might keep you awake at night

What good are dreams written down?

Before I go any further, I’m not talking about your dreams for how you’d like your life to go. Of course, it’s a good idea to write those down. And, in fact, it’s just good to write on a regular basis. But that’s for another time and topic of discussion. Because right now I’m talking about dreams you dream when you’re asleep. Are those dreams written down a good idea? My answer? No. Unless…

If your dreams written down lead you to superstition, stop writing them down.

Over the years I’ve seen lots of people say it’s good to write down what you dreamed about when you first wake up. And there’s nothing inherently evil or wrong about it. But it can lead you somewhere dark. (no pun intended…or did you detect one?)

It’s weird how many people think dreams actually mean something. But unless you’re one of those people, in the Bible, who was contacted by God, in a dream, your dreams aren’t really real stuff. They’re just your brain processing tons of tons of information in a random way. It’s not connecting dots. And it’s probably more like disconnecting dots. And serving them up on your brain’s projector.

There are plenty of websites where they give you a list of 3, 5, 7, or even more reasons to write down your dreams. And I encourage you not to dwell on them except for 1 reason. Wanna know what it is? Ok, I’ll tell you next time. Just kidding.

Here’s the one reason where writing down your dreams is OK.

If and when (and only if and when), the story helps you creatively serve others with your writing.

“Oh, man! Big letdown, Tony!”

I know. OK, I’ll let you off the hook, if you write about your dreams to create a cool poem or song. And that’s partly because that’s what I did with this following poem from 20 years ago.

My Dream

Thought I woke up one dark night
With yellow wings, prepared for flight,
A sword of silver, polished steel
To keep me ready, keep me real.
I yelled to see who’d come with me
And celebrate sweet victory.
But no one heard my rising call.
Guess I was not awake at all.
I’ve lost the balance on this beam…
Will no one else believe my dream?

Big Bang Band and the High Command

Here comes the Big Bang Band

Playing on stage in a digital venue near you…let’s hear it for the Big Bang Band! (crowd cheers, applause) And they’ve already announced they’ll be playing all their biggest hits. Songs like: The Last Great Prediction, Hubble’s Law, Confirmed, No Alternatives, and more.

Big Bang Band and the High Command

I’ll bet you’ve heard the Big Bang Band.

Unless you have zero interest in theories of our origin, you’ve heard the same old tired and repetitive songs. Sung by the same truncated troubadours. And just like the Rolling Stones, they’ve been able to sustain their careers for decades. But unlike the Rolling Stones, their “songs” have no hook. They’re just headbangers.

I’m sure you’ve already picked up on my not-so-subtle analogical references.

The big bang theory is a worn-out and debunked belief system. And it gets old, hearing the same “tunes” over and over. Especially after hearing much better music. But the crowds who want nothing to do with God will always clamor to the concerts. And they’ll always cheer the irrelevant, irreverent hits.

“But Tony, they’re the only ones that make sense.”

Nay, nay grasshopper.

The first two laws of thermodynamics make way more sense. Just recently I shared a cute, little schoolroom scenario about the first law. And now I have a couple of things to share about the second law.

In case you didn’t know it…our ginormous, humongous universe is still an isolated system. Maybe I’ll share what that means at another time. But for now it means “according to the second law of thermodynamics, the energy in the universe available for useful work has always been decreasing.”

That means, if you go back in time as far as evolutionists would have you go, the amount of energy would exceed the capacity for the total universe to hold it. And we know everything breaks down. It’s not getting more and more complex. It’s less and less complex.

So, what that means is, there was a beginning, and…

It wasn’t millions or billions of years ago
When the universe first began.
It didn’t happen by some goofy accident
Or seeds from a little green man.
We were made by the One who wasn’t made
And it wasn’t too long ago.
So you can trust it’s true that it’s God design, and
You can know that you know you know.

Silver words of hope. I'm tossing you a rope.

You don’t need special talents to sing these silver words.

In fact, if you’d rather listen, that’s OK, too. Because the words I’m talking about can maybe give you even more hope if you just listen. And by “listen” I mean tune out the world and its incessant noise. And really listen.

The incessant noise of the world is full of back-stabbing treachery. It seems there’s no low that’s too low to go for so many people. Because even during this time of the so-called “global pandemic” there are so many people looking for a way to lie to and steal from their fellow human beings.

And it crosses all ethnicities, races, lifestyles, and borders. But it only stands to reason when you think about it. After all, if most people don’t care about their Creator, why in the world would they care about you?

“So, what good would some shiny words do anyone, Tony?”

Well, it depends on who’s speaking them. It’s safe to say some silver-tongued salesman spouting spurious speculations at you won’t help you much. Right? And I think we can all agree when so-called “political leaders” speak, their words are more on the gray or rust end of the color spectrum.

But what if your Creator told you something like: “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, Now I will arise,”says the Lord; “I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.”That would be some mighty shiny, comforting words. Don’t you agree? Well, God did say those words. Of course, if the Bible is just a fairy tale, or collection of fairy tales, then, by all means, ignore those words. But if the Bible is an actual trustworthy, historical book of reference, well that’s words of a different color. And here’s what I say…

Silver words of hope from the Word of God
Show me where and how I need Him most.
So, I say a prayer from my grateful heart…
Thank you Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Fear free? Not me. It's my fear that sets me free.

Fear free? Uh…no

You’ve probably seen those t-shirts, or caps, or bumper stickers. Right? The ones that say “No Fear” Sure, while it might sound macho, tough, or cool (or should I say, dope and sick?) it’s actually kinda stupid. Because no one should be fear free. In spite of what some seemingly successful “motivational speakers” might say.

Play

Get The The Power of God's Love Podcast Delivered to Your Device Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | Android | Pandora | iHeartRadio | Podchaser | Podcast Index | TuneIn | Deezer | RSS | More

Instead of trying to be fear free, consider directing your fear.

Yeah, tell yourself where to focus your fear. Because if you concentrate on life’s problems, you won’t have focus. And your whole life can feel like an elephant is sitting on your head. And as cute as elephants are, you don’t want one cuddling up on your head. He IS heavy. And he ain’t your brother.

Now, there truly are a lot of fearful things in life. Especially if you allow yourself to swept up in the feeding frenzy of the masses during times like we’re experiencing right now. If you believe everything you hear from the typical media outlets (aka mainstream media), you might feel like we’re all gonna die from this new virus. Unfortunately, quite a few have died. And it looks like a lot more might, too. However, to keep it in perspective, the vast majority of people on the planet are not infected. And yet, there’s still a serious problem.

Because the vast majority of people on the planet ARE infected with something worse.

Selfishness.

It’s the I, Me, Mine syndrome. You saw that with all the hoarding of toilet tissue, paper towels, and hand sanitizer recently. Were all those people emptying the store shelves out of love for their neighbors? No, they were focused on the problem and how it was gonna affect “ME.”

Fear mongering creates chaotic fearful reactions. And I’m convinced there are lots of demented people who enjoy manipulating the masses in that way. So, what’s the solution? Is there a vaccine against it?

Yes. And ironically it’s fear. But not of all the terrible, and sometimes deadly, things in this world. Of course, I’m talking about a healthy fear (aka respect) of the Creator of Heaven, Earth, you, and me.

You wanna be wise and increase your ability to understand life?

Then, get to know God. Find out what your manufacturer says in His owner’s manual. The Bible. Even if you don’t think it’s based on true, historical facts, look into what it says. You’ll discover so much valuable information about yourself. Yes, YOU. And I wouldn’t be surprised if you found out how much you’re loved. And how much that would help you…

Live through life with expectation of a paradise
Made for those who trust in Jesus, who can stabilize
Daily thoughts and even actions each of us might make.
Turn your heart to your Salvation. Now, for Heaven’s sake.

Worry wart is not a name you should have as a claim to fame

Are you a worry wart?

My mom is 82. She lives in eastern Kansas. And we talk a couple of times a week, by phone. By her own admission, she’s a worry wart. For those of you too young to know, that means she worries a lot. Currently, as you might expect, she’s pretty worried about this whole pandemic thing. And since she has way too much time on her hands (retired and living alone) she watches the news reports intently. So, of course, she’s getting pretty negative right now. But should she?

Play

And if you’re a Christian, is it even OK to be a worry wart?

Short answer…No! It’s not OK. Why? Because I said so young man (or lady). Well, not really because I said so. Because God said so. Yeah, there are at least 7 times, in the New Testament, where Jesus said “do not worry.” Plus, other places He talks about how it doesn’t have any positive effects. And there are lots of places where God says something like “fear not.”

“But Tony, how can anybody, your Mom included, be expected not to worry in times like this?”

Hey, that’s not what I said. In fact, I expect a lot of people WILL fret over what’s going on. But I think it’s important to at least consider what God says about worrying. And why. And, as it turns out, science has even proved how worry is connected to actual sickness. Yeah, you can get upset over something, and if you stay upset, you can get sick. Physically, emotionally, and mentally. So, if you can’t trust God, well…there’s still science. (which only exists because God exists…but anyway…)

Yeah, it’s actually pretty cool when you think about it. God’s watching over your health even when He’s telling you not to worry. It’s not just because He wants you to cover your ears and eyes to all the troubles in the world. Far from it. He actually wants you, if you’re a Christian, to show the world how to be and stay positive in times like this.

Because…

If for no other reason, you know you’re truly blessed.
And you know you’ll live forever in the place that’s the best.
You know this world can never beat your spirit down for good.
So now you’ll give up worry, or at least you’ll know you should.

Are we there yet? There's a running bet.

“Dad, are we there yet?”

Oh yeah. The dreaded (and yet predictable) are we there yet question. Maybe you remember, as a kid, how you or a brother or sister would get bored on a long family trip. And inevitably somebody would want to know when it was gonna be over. Right? Or maybe you’ve even been the parent who got the question from the kids.

I’ve seen the are we there yet question starting to pop up in the news.

Apparently there are lots of people who are getting bored hanging out with their families. And they’re wondering if this quarantine, lockdown, house arrest thing is almost over. Of course, no red-blooded American likes to be told how and when he or she can move around or not move around. But, when you take situations, like this serious one we find ourselves in right now, and focus on solutions, it ain’t so bad.

For example, I’ve been using my extra staying home time to focus on building my private label products I mentioned earlier. And my goal is to have 10 to 12 finished products in 60 days. Today completes week 1. And I have 7 of those products in full production mode. Hot diggity!

This week I hope to get the other 3 to 5 going and get ready for the next phase.

Some might say my private label products don’t necessarily follow the guidelines of “a product.” And they might be right. But then again, they DO fit the bill of unique, useful, and made for an existing market. So, since it’s specialty work I’m highly experienced in, I’m gonna kick it till it’s kickin’.

But enough of that. Back to the news of the day.

And even though we’re not there yet
I’m hopeful we’ll get better yet.
And every challenge, every trial
Can push our lives a country mile.
But where you go is up to you.
So, put your trust in you know Who.
And then you’ll so well equipped
When this disease is soundly whipped.

Sunday morning inspiration

Who could use a little Sunday morning inspiration?

Show of hands…yeah, there’s a few of you. OK, so here it is. You can do it! Now, go out there and get it done! There. How’s that? Are you pumped and ready to take on sickness, sadness, disease, and disaster? What? No?! What do you mean I just used a cliché? Wow, way to look some Sunday morning inspiration in the mouth.

The fact that it’s Sunday morning should be plenty of inspiration for you.

“Golly gee, Tony. That’s a total cop out. What’s that even mean?”

Oh ye of little healthy fats. As I’m writing this, the first pale, orange light of dawn is just peeking over the horizon. Of course, that means the sun is about to rise. Well, it doesn’t actually rise…but let’s not go down that rabbit hole. Anyway, the thing is, it’s the dawn of a new day. Sunday morning, to be exact. And I’m here to see it. I exist. And I’m able to sit up, look at the beautiful colors, and write about it.

That’s an inspirational blessing.

“Big whoo, Tony. Way to under deliver and over promise.”

Seriously? Can’t you see the unbelievable blessing in another Sunday morning? Or any other day of the week, for that matter. Because none of us even deserve one day. Much less a lifetime of mornings, afternoons, and evenings. But God blesses us above and beyond what we deserve. Because He loves us so much.

And why would He love us when we’re so unfaithful, ungrateful, and downright unloveable?

We are His creation.

Yeah, it’s that simple.

Your Creator is (and was) so willing to love you and give you eternal life, He personally made sure it can happen. And your willingness to believe and trust in Him is all that’s required of you in order to get it. And each Sunday morning (and every other morning) is another opportunity to exercise humility and get right with God.

If that doesn’t inspire you, check back next week.
And consider your options before you speak.
I hope you discover you’re wonderfully made
And your ticket to Heaven is already paid.

Songwriting for hope with a much broader scope

My songwriting for hope has a much broader scope

And when I say, songwriting for hope, I’m not talking about a person’s name. I’m talking about actual hope. Yes, it’s a real thing. In spite of all the negativity media and social media channels are putting out. And it’s always available. But most people don’t have a clue where to look. Because they focus on the temporary, material things. And those things are ultimately hopeless.

Songwriting for hope with a much broader scope

You’re on my mind when I’m songwriting for hope.

Yes, YOU.

And except for a small group of people, I’ve probably never even met you. But I’m singing and writing to share the one, true message of hope you can depend on from here through eternity. And I’m especially writing and singing for you if you’ve never heard of, or haven’t yet even started to trust your Creator.

If you’re still trying to find some “thing”, here in this world, to replace a relationship with your Creator, you have no hope. For two reasons. One: only a fool believes there is no God. And Two: in case you haven’t noticed, nothing here on Earth lasts forever. That’s been made painfully obvious by all this Covid-19 weirdness going on.

So, many other songwriters have dedicated their talents and time writing and singing about the here and now. And they follow the materialistic formulas leading nowhere. Certainly not to any lasting hope. And even though it can “feel” like they care, they actually don’t. Because they don’t even care where they end up. So, why should they care where you do?

I care where you end up forever.

And even though you might despise the messages I often share in articles, rhymes, and songs, I want you to know there IS hope. But it isn’t found in things. Not in people. And certainly not in the illusions of sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll.

Those are destructive, false, little gods.

Your Creator is bigger than the whole universe.
He created you to be with Him.
And whether you decide to ignore or trust
Will determine if you sink or swim.

Fire and brimstone? Or a Heavenly ice cream cone?

Fire and brimstone

Yeah, we’re already getting close to April. And that means those April showers that bring May flowers. Of course, that leads to Memorial Day and backyard barbecues. Wanna try something a little different this year? How about serving up a nice steaming cup of fire and brimstone? With a side of burning wind? Mm mm good.

Play

Get The The Power of God's Love Podcast Delivered to Your Device Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Amazon Music | Android | Pandora | iHeartRadio | Podchaser | Podcast Index | TuneIn | Deezer | RSS | More

What if I told you fire and brimstone won’t be available to everyone?

I know. I know. More shortages?! Are you kidding me?

Well, yeah. In a way. But it’s actually no laughing matter. It’s true that only a certain group of people will have access to all the “goodies.” But it’s a huge group. And you might be included. Wanna see if you fit the criteria? You might if you are…

  • wicked
  • pointing arrows at those who aren’t
  • prone to violence

Simple. Right? If you fit into any or all of those categories, you are part of the rebellion. And you’re a soldier, on the front lines, against God. And He hates you.

“Uh-oh…you just used the H word, Tony.”

Yeah, that’s because God used it first. And if God says He hates the wicked, I believe Him. Because He’s not a man. And He doesn’t lie. But I also know He’d rather not hate anyone. It’s not His cup of tea to serve up a cup of fire. Or brimstone. Or burning wind. And that’s why He holds all those things in reserve for only those who hate Him or His children.

As for me, I enjoy a good steaming cup of coffee on a brisk, quiet morning. And I’ve been known to partake of some spicy hot barbecue sauce on my brisket. But I’d rather not even sample any of that hot stuff God will serve up for the wicked. No sir. I’m saving room for dessert (aka Heaven).

I’d rather have an ice cream cone
Than a cup of fire and brimstone.
And I’d rather enjoy God’s love
Than burning winds from up above.
So, I say “yes” to all His word,
The parts I’ve read, the parts I’ve heard.
I know someday I’ll leave this place
And live forever in His grace.
