You Can Avoid It
Life can look pretty bleak sometimes. You find yourself up against a wall. You don’t believe there’s anyone in the whole world who could possibly understand what you’re going through. Your heart becomes a wasteland. You feel null and void. I’m here to tell you it’s only a feeling it. You can avoid it. It might take an act of your will at first, but you can avoid it and even grow to help others avoid it, too.
When you come to a day where your hopes and dreams have faded so much you don’t recognize them anymore, ask yourself this. “Who am I focusing on?”
My guess is…it’s yourself. Self wants a lot. In fact, self is never satisfied. There’s never enough money, drugs, sex, food, or power to satisfy self’s cravings. Never. And when you don’t have enough of these things, what does self do? Pity. And what does that do? Piles on. And where does that lead? In the self-same circle you were already treading. You can’t avoid it because the “needs” of self are too strong.
However, (you knew I was gonna get to however didn’t you) there is a way to overcome the hypnotic power of self. Turn the focus lens around. Don’t allow self to crowd the spotlight. Make self sit in back and watch while you serve your fellow human beings.
“But how can I do this with this mountain of troubles on my back,” you ask.
Trust in your Creator who said “for My yoke is easy and My burden is light”. Like I said, it may take an act of will on your part to begin with…but you’ll find there’s enough love in God’s heart to fill your will.
Avoid The Void
You say you live in a house that has no soul
You feel your time has come and gone
And so you begin to plan for the end
And you hope that it’s better farther on
You say your friends have gone their separate ways
And that they no longer know you exist
Their progress was fine, but it never came to you
Your watch is a handcuff on your wrist
No, you can’t avoid the void…
The darkness wraps around your heart like a glove
You can’t avoid the void
Without God’s Love
You sit and wait for the phone that never rings
Then play your records from the past
You did find some who shared romantic hopes
But you never found love that would last
chorus
So tell me what’s it gonna be
Are you gonna give up”
Or let Jesus in”
And begin to live again?
instrumental…repeat chorus and end
