Life on Earth has no lasting worth

If there is no God, then the sum total of all life on Earth is basically meaningless. It will come to no good end. And even if it did, how would anyone know it was a “good” end? What difference would one person’s opinion be from another? Who would determine good versus bad?

Here’s something I wrote about life on Earth over 15 years ago.

And I believe this will remain true:

“But we are not the sum total of our dollars, beauty, or “stuff.” We’re not the sum total of our monikers we wear through this life. We’re not the sum total of the varied opinions about us. Those don’t make us. And they shouldn’t break us. Here’s what I recommend…

  • Work to produce…not for the money.
  • Play to relax…not to escape.
  • Laugh to enjoy…not to cover up.
  • Love to give…not to acquire.
  • And live to be thankful…not to compare.

You are the sum total of where you position yourself for eternity.”

And all life on Earth still doesn’t amount to much without love.

The Apostle Paul wrote the Corinthian believers a lesson about life without love (spoiler alert: it wasn’t good).

If you dare to care, then share love.
Day and night it’s right to share love.
You were given a heart that could love from the start.
So right now, somehow, go share love.

If you love this message (or at least like it), let’s stay connected. It’s super easy. Here’s how:

Ancient age appears when clocks miscount the years

What if you reached your prime, let’s say around 33, and someone told you that you look old? It wouldn’t exactly make you feel great. Even if you’re totally confident in who you are, and in your appearance, you don’t wanna look old before your time. And I bet mother Earth doesn’t like all this talk about her ancient age either. I mean, c’mon man…show a little sensitivity.

Because mother Earth’s so-called “ancient age” is based on bad timing.

And all it takes to make Earth seem really old is to just pile on more years. And that’s easy. Just use bad clocks. And measure wrong.

I used to be a full-time finish carpenter. And I’m sure you’ve heard the old saying, “Measure twice, cut once.” But, hidden in that saying, is the implication that you’ll use an accurate tape measure. Or some other form of measurement. Because if the device ain’t accurate, the measurement won’t be either. Once, twice, or more.

So, if scientists are gonna theorize the age of the Earth, they should use accurate measurements. And not the slow clocking data they’ve used for too long (pun slightly intended).

For examples…coral reefs and stalactites and stalagmites.

People, who call themselves unbiased scientists, say coral reefs and stalactites and stalagmites take hundreds of thousands of years to form. So, Earth must be old. But, as it turns out, other scientists have discovered that, under favorable growth conditions, they can form in 3400 years or less.

But you won’t hear many of those unbiased scientists sharing that new information. Because it all points to a young planet. Don’t they care how happy mother Earth would be to hear the news?

No. Not so much. Because a young Earth couldn’t have just exploded into existence. And life couldn’t have evolved in such a short time. They know that. And they also know that young Earth data points to what they consider to be the silly notion of creation. And, of course, creation implies a Creator.

Uh-oh! Now we’ve gone off the deep end.

“Next thing you’ll be tellin’ us is that God created everything literally in 7 days.”

Actually, no. He created everything in a literal 6 days. But you were close.

And much closer than your miscounted millions of years.

In awe of all creation and how it all could be
The fairy tale illusions increase with every year.
The wrinkled plans expand”exponentially”
Until one day, perhaps, a duck becomes a deer”yeah, right.

(from the song “Fast Forward”)

It's as good as gold that the earth's not old.

The age of Earth is as good as gold

It’s sort of ironic how I use the expression, good as gold, to talk about the age of the earth. After all, good as gold is kind of an old expression. And maybe younger readers and listeners have never heard it. Well, you have now. And it’ll all make more sense shortly.

This case against an old molten earth is as good as gold.

I didn’t realize how long people have been saying Earth is millions and billions of years old. Apparently textbooks, for over 200 years, have been saying Earth was a molten mess over 500 million years ago. We humans sure know how to maintain our knucklheadedness. With all the advances in scientific research, you’d think that information could have been updated by now. But you’d be wrong if you thought that.

Anyway…why do I say Earth’s not all that old? And why do I say this reason is as good as gold? Well, you’ve heard me mention Dr. Walt Brown many times, here on the website and on my podcast. And he has a huge list of reasons why evolution and millions or billions of years don’t explain our existence.

One of those reasons explains how, if Earth had been a molten mess all those years ago, then when it slowly cooled, the heavy metals would sink to the bottom. He also explained how gold is 70% more dense than lead and yet it’s found at the Earth’s surface. You don’t have to journey to the center of the Earth to find it.

(video no longer available)

And just because I say this explanation is as good as gold, you don’t have to take my word for granite. Speaking of granite…it’s pretty much the main ingredient on the surface of the Earth. And granite’s made up of mixture of minerals. And if granite had cooled slowly over long periods of time, the minerals that cooled first would have sunk to the bottom. That means granite would be layered minerals instead of clumped minerals.

Now, don’t get me started on xenon and zircon.

I’ll be glad to talk about those, too. But they’re not as good as gold. Well…not as shiny anyway.

Larger Than Life

Is it possible to live larger than life? It depends on where your definition of life takes you. If you believe your time, here on Earth, is all you’ll ever have, then no. You’ll never live larger than life. But if you know there’s an eternity waiting for you…provided by your Creator…then the answer’s yes. And when you know and understand how life is much more than the material things you can gather, your acquire a much larger (and more important) perspective.

Larger Than Life

Recently I’ve been sharing lyrics to songs I never completed or composed. Today, I’d like to share some more non-song lyrics. I wrote this in November of 1988. Back then I was looking at where the United States was headed, and I didn’t like the direction. Sadly, the country has taken turns for the worse since then. If you disagree, I’d love to hear from you. Do you believe our country and our world are better off now than we were in the past? If so, please show me…because I believe there are far too many people who don’t realize that life is…

Larger Than Life

We live in a greed land”take more than we need land.
We go for the gusto”creating a dustbowl.
A media earful”is leaving us fearful.
It may come to haunt us”someday doesn’t want us.

More money, more persona”everyone’s a prima donna.
Can’t we understand that it’s larger than life?
Another car and another diamond”
The way we take is like a crime, and
Can’t we understand that it’s larger than life?

We’re living much faster”we flirt with disaster.
We use our resources as conquering forces.
We don’t hear the drumming”the enemy’s coming.
We still have a Savior”let’s change our behavior.

More money, more persona”everyone’s a prima donna.
Can’t we understand that it’s larger than life?
Another car and another diamond”
The way we take is like a crime, and
Can’t we understand that it’s larger than life?

There’s so much more than just the here and now.
This isn’t nearly all there is.
But there are too many here who will never know how
This isn’t nearly all there is”
Life is larger than life.

Only For A Little While

Whether you’re going through life at the bottom of the totem pole…or you’re the king of the hill…remember, it’s only for a little while.

Don’t worry if you see others doing more or better than you. There’s almost always someone else doing less or worse. You just need to focus on being the best YOU you can be. That takes your whole life. But the good news is, you don’t have to do it alone. You can always lean on your Creator. Jesus has sent His Spirit to be with you through your whole journey here on planet Earth. How cool is that?! And you can talk to Him whenever you have anything bothering you…or even when you just want to tell Him thanks.

This life you’re living right now doesn’t last forever. So, don’t waste any of it thinking of ways to hurt others. Wouldn’t it be better to think of ways to help others? You never know when someone might need your hug, or your words, or your listening ears. They might think you’re THE one who understands them. And you can help them to discover they’re never alone. When you do, guess what else you’ll be doing…

…storing up treasures in Heaven. And not only for a little while.

Do you know what treasures in Heaven are? If so, send me a note and tell me. If not, ask your mom or dad…or even me. I’ll give you a hint: treasures in Heaven last a very long time.   🙂

It’s only for a little while our time here on the earth.
It’s only for a little while, it’s true.
No matter what you see and do while you are in this world
It’s only for a little while you do.

Before you go, share this link with everybody you know. Tell ’em to jump on the The TRUTH AND get some music and other fun stuff, for Fa-Ree.

"The Code" is one of the many books from Tony Funderburk, the Rhyme and Reason Writer for kids

Let’s Get Real For A Bit

Have you read where a protoplanet named “Vesta” might have some clues as to how life on Earth may have formed? Yeah, scientists have discovered some areas of impact on the “minor planet” that seem to show collisions with carbon rich asteroids. And of course, they emphasize that carbon is the essential building block to all life on earth…from single cell to human.

When a human being dies, the same carbon that was there before death is still there after death…so here’s a silly question…Why is there no life in the carbon? I mean…if it’s the essential building block of all life on Earth…why does a carbon rich body die?

Let’s get real some more.

I’m not a scientist…and I don’t play one on TV. And I’m not a physicist or alchemist or biologist. I’m just a children’s writer and singer. A words and music guy. A guy who probably contains as much carbon as anyone in those other professions. But I’m a guy, who like those other guys, has a time limit on my LIFE here on earth. If and when my time to die arrives, my carbon will still be here. So my life did not arise from or depend on carbon. And real science shows the enormity of complexity in human DNA. The code in a single human cell fills volumes of information.

Every human has their own unique DNA. My finite mind can barely apprehend (and certainly not comprehend) the implications of that. But I can say this without hesitation…DNA clearly shows we’re information based, not carbon. It’s sort of like this: my MacBook Pro is a cool looking device. But without the information in the software, it’s merely a shapely piece of aluminum. It would be “lifeless”. And no amount of added aluminum would ever get it to calculate, punctuate, or create a single image, sentence, or sound.

I wish scientists who trust in carbon could get real and approach life from the information base. I believe they’d be better equipped to process that information and build a much better understanding of life, love, and design. They might even develop a trust in the Designer.
