Yesterday I wrote about a nostalgic memory. And I talked about June bugs. If you didn’t catch that post, check it out. But now I want you to think back in your own life. And go as far back in your past as you can. Because I want you to see yourself as small as possible.

OK, are you there yet? Way, way back to when everything was left up to “the grownups.” Can you see it? Great.  Now”pick up where you left off. And this time, get it right. and pass this on to as many of your friends and family as possible. Because if we can get enough of us to go back, start over, and do it right, we can change the world.

Now, as far as I can tell, there’s only one possible flaw in my theory. Keep in mind, I haven’t worked this out on even a singular level. But work with me here. Because I’m not talking about leaving your adult brain here.

No. Think back to that time and take your adult brain with you.

I know…in fact, I’m willing to bet…most of you have seen enough Marvel movies to understand the validity of my theory. Sure, there will be time travel naysayers. But they’re just cosmic killjoys who wouldn’t know an excited molecule if it was in their own brain.

So, you and I are gonna have to carry the weight of this adventure on our own brain power.

Because, I don’t know about you, but I’m particularly fed up with virtue signalers and cancel culture creeps. And zapping back to when they didn’t exist sounds mighty inviting.

Matter of fact, I think if we just zap…uh-oh.

I think I dozed off there for a couple of minutes. And my fingers kept typing. Must’ve been typing out something deep in my subconscious. Oh great. Now, I gotta go back and edit this before I post it.

C’mon man.

Well, sorry about that everybody. Here’s a few rhyming lines you can read amongst yourselves while I edit. (Oh brother, I gotta get more sleep tonight.)

Is there a day you go back to when you think of better times?
Or do you think that day is somewhere up ahead?
But either way it’s a day when all your cares will melt away,
And then your life will be fulfilling dreams instead.

Well, let me say, I’m for living with that hope inside your heart.
I do believe in looking for a better way.
But cares won’t go until you know your Creator loves you so.
That’s how the better times you need begin today. ~Tony Funderburk

You Can Change

No matter what you’ve done before,
you can change.

I’m about to embark on a journey, starting tomorrow, that will take me in a direction I never planned on going. Nope…when I was a kid, I didn’t dream of this journey. When I was a young man, I never envisioned myself going this way. And as I got older, I didn’t picture myself in the role I’ll be playing soon. The reason I’m laying it out this way is to encourage you to understand you can change. No matter what age or what stage of life you’re in.

You Can Change

You weren’t created to be one, specific thing. God didn’t plan out each step of your life before the foundation of the world. And He isn’t forcing you to accept the road you’re on right now. As difficult as it might be to accept responsibility for your own shortcomings, it’s necessary in order to move beyond them. And by the way…your shortcomings weren’t designed by God either. Just as a well-known airline commercial says: “you’re free to move around the country”. At least for a while longer if you’re American.

In other words, YOU get to decide for you.

You can change the direction of your life. I’m about to make a serious change in direction. I won’t tell you what that is for now because I have to work on some more details. But maybe I’ll share it with you as I go once I work those out. Suffice it to say…it’s a big change.

Around two thousand years ago another human being went through an even more serious change. A man named Saul was persecuting a new group of people known as “Christians”. Saul was zealous for his Jewish faith. And, as he saw it, these Christians were a threat to that faith. They were saying terrible things about God and The Messiah…deceitful things…lies…things worthy of death.

At least that’s what Saul believed…until…

…he changed.

In fact, Saul was so radically changed he became one of those “Christians”. He became the chief proponent of the new Christian faith and announced “that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief“. His name was even changed to Paul to reflect the awesome, massive change that had taken place in his life.

Like I said before…I’d like to encourage you to realize you CAN change. I’m about to make a serious change that will affect my life for a few years. But I made a decision, when I was 13, to change my eternal future. I’ve never regretted that decision. Have you asked God for help to make that change?

Safe And Sound

Do you live in a town or city where violent crimes seem unimaginable? Does it make you feel safe and sound in your home and daily life? Unfortunately it doesn’t seem like those kinds of places exist anymore. For example…right here in my hometown (city) of Colorado Springs, Colorado there was a senseless crime scene on a street I’ve driven many times. If you drove or walked by there right now, you’d never guess that anyone would walk down the street with a rifle and a pistol and randomly murder people. But it happened. On Halloween. Maybe you read about it or heard it on the news. That story proves there is no place you can feel completely safe and sound. But I’m convinced there is one Way you CAN. Wanna know more? Keep reading…

It’s often called “the big picture”. And it’s so important to have a clear view of the big picture. Simply put, it’s this…you will exist forever somewhere. You’ll either live in the fullness of life with your Creator in the paradise He’s making for those who love Him…or you’ll exist in your own mind totally separate from Him and everyone and everything else. Your own kingdom of 1. So…do you choose option 1 or option 2? And please realize the choice is entirely yours. I urge you to choose option 1. Is there any good reason you wouldn’t want to live forever with God? If so, let me know. Of course, I’d like to convince you to change your mind. But it’s only because I want you to be…

Safe And Sound

Down on our luck but not out of the game
We both go the distance
and cover some ground…
And still our love is safe and sound
We learned to be part of each other’s dreams
Some time was lost but look what we found
Knowing our love is safe and sound

We laugh like there’s no tomorrow
We’re touched by the hand of God
So what if there’s no new sunrise
So what if the world won’t spin around
We’re safe and sound

Miles have gone by; we dared to go see
The wide open space and seldom we frowned
Look how our love is safe and sound
Deep in our hearts and inside our minds
We capture the words and they keep us bound
Saying our love is safe and sound

We laugh like there’s no tomorrow
We’re touched by the hand of God
So what if there’s no new sunrise
So what if the world won’t spin around
We’re safe and sound

So many give up when one knee is down
But we’re down on both and now we’re safe and sound
