I can sing a new song any time I feel like it. And I mean a song nobody’s ever heard before. Because I can write that new song. And I know it won’t be music set in place since before the foundation of the world. It’ll be brand new at the time I write it.
And when I sing a new song I just wrote, it highlights my will.
Not necessarily God’s will. Because a lot of music, especially these days, is anti God. And many popular songs are full of despicable thoughts and words. Profanity, dark deviant behavior, and of course plenty of sex references. So, those songs highlight the songwriter’s will. They are a window to the songwriter’s soul.
But they are in no way connected to God.
And I prefer to write music that helps me connect my will to God’s will. So, as a result, many of my songs talk about Him and Biblical principles. And I know my music will never be popular in this world. But that’s OK with me as long as it’s pleasing to God. And as long as it shows how awesome He is.
Then, maybe it’ll be like the compliment a guy paid to me at a pro life event several years ago. He came up to the stage, after the event was over and I was packing up. And he said, “Tony, those were awesome songs. I’m sure they’ll be echoing down the halls of Heaven.”
I don’t know if they will. But it would be my eternal honor if they did. Because it’s my goal to store up my treasures in Heaven. And I’d love it if my songs are part of those treasures.
OK…maybe this makes sense to you. And maybe it doesn’t. Either way, I felt compelled to share how you and I are responsible for what we do. God didn’t write my songs for me, eons ago, and deliver them to me. And He’s not controlling my time in the recording studio. So, the blame or the credit for what I write go to me.
But the glory of the gift of music all goes to God.
God inspires me to write,
And I hope I get it right.
But I know the end result will be all mine.
And I know it will be
His creation straight from me.
I can write and sing a new song by design.
