The best way for you to get a valid point across to me is to scream at me. Obviously a lot of people believe that’s true. Because there’s not a day that goes by where I don’t see someone trying to drown out anyone who would dare disagree with them.
That scream at me part reminded me of my wife.
No, not in the way you’re thinking. I’ll share the story so you understand better.
Before Elgielene and I were married we experienced one of those “long distance relationships.” She lived in Florida (where I originally met her). And I lived in Colorado.
And I “originally met her” when I was booked at a swanky Hilton high-rise hotel, where she worked, in her hometown. She was married, and I was a musician. So, getting together was basically out of the question,
Once I finished my long-term booking there, I wrote to her, occasionally, from different places while I was “on the road” full time. On the rare occasions when she responded, it was only to tell me I shouldn’t write anymore. How’s that for encouragement? And it was about 3 years before she even gave me the time of day.
Once she finally responded in a positive way, we started talking on the phone. A lot. And this was before smartphones and unlimited long distance. On one phone call she told me how things were hitting her from all sides. And she said “life is screaming at me.” And I thought to myself, “Hey, there’s a song in that.”
Yeah, that’s how it happens sometimes for a songwriter.
“Good ideas” pop up in front of you even without spending any time thinking about them. But I try to make it a purpose of mine. In other words, I look and listen for those ideas on purpose.
Just as “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word,” ideas come by listening. Check out the lyrics to the following song and see if it describes you in any way. If “life is screaming” at you, maybe you need to tune out a few things and tune in to that “still small voice.” The voice you can only hear when you trust God.
Life Is Screaming At Me
Life is screaming at me, “Give me your best shot!
Don’t dream it all away;
You gotta give back what you got!
It’s no big deal to gain the world
‘Cause you can’t take it with you.
But work to keep your soul, and give it your best shot.”
Oh, life is screaming at me, “Listen to your heart.
It can guide you through the dark, abysmal part.
Don’t let somebody else decide
Or tell you what you’re feeling.
Just keep your mind at work,
And listen to your heart!”
Now,
Open the window…the morning sun is gleaming.
Now,
Turn up the volume, listen.
Listen to life screaming at me!
Life is screaming at me, “Do it while you can!
Try to bridge the gap between a woman and a man.
Remember how it was the day
You first became attracted,
And strive to keep the love,
And do it while you can.”
Now,
Open the window.
The noise can stop the dreaming.
Hear the voice of angels

That’s actually kind of a manic, frantic song. And I wrote it that way to go with the scream at me feeling. But I wrote a collection of praise and worship songs to help put you in a much better frame of mind. You can get all of them in a handy dandy, songbook journal:
