If there is no God then my hope is flawed

If there is no God, then I’ve spent most of my life hoping for something that doesn’t exist and it will never be a reality for me or anyone else. Yeah, there’s no hope for the world, if there is no God. Plain and simple. Because without the hope of at least some sort of access to eternal life, there’s not even a good … The rest of the story…

Peace on Earth began when God became a man.

A lot of people still wish for it, hope for it, and pray for it. And the ironic thing is, peace on earth actually began about 2000 years ago, give or take. But soon after peace on earth began, it ended. Another ironic thing is that even when there was peace on earth, it wasn’t a peaceful place to live. But how is that … The rest of the story…

Christmas spirit days and my wet blanket ways

OK, we’ve only got a few Christmas spirit days left. Then everything gets turned off again for another eight or nine months. Oh sure, there’ll be a few leftovers. But pretty much once December 25th is done, the lights go out, and that sparkly holiday cheer turns into just another year. Sorry to throw a wet blanket on your Christmas spirit days. I’m sure … The rest of the story…

Exact day and time have less reason than rhyme

It was about 2,000 years ago. And today doesn’t mark the exact day and time. But that’s another topic for later. Nevertheless some shepherds were on the job, whatever day and time it was. And their job was to watch over their flock of sheep. As they stood under the night sky, a host of angels appeared and told them to follow that curious … The rest of the story…

Favorite Christmas songs and other sing-a-longs

Over the years I’ve written some Christmas songs. And one of them became one of my favorite Christmas songs. Hey, who says a songwriter can’t like his own music? Not me, that’s who. Yes, it’s perfectly fine to have enough ego to admit you like something you create. It would be kinda stupid to be creating stuff you didn’t like. Where’s the good in … The rest of the story…

Christmas hustle turned to a full-tilt bustle

The Christmas hustle was revved up to a full bustle, here in the hometown, this past weekend. And the Funderburks felt it more than usual because we had to pick up some essentials for our business and almost got stuck in a shopping center’s parking lot. The worst part was that we hadn’t brought food for an extended stay. Yikes! But the Christmas hustle … The rest of the story…

Christmastime and I'm thinking it's sublime

Ms Elle and I went for a drive in the Big K outback today. And I noticed something. It appears to be Christmastime. Did you guys realize that holiday slid into our midst again. Crazy, Daisy. Anyway… There’s something about the look and feel of the heartland that stirs up the warm and fuzzy embers of my heart and soul. And I think it … The rest of the story…

Sad and lonely day unless you know the Way

I can understand why someone might be sad and lonely during this “most wonderful time of the year.” But I believe those are the people who don’t understand what the celebration of Christmas is about. And it’s no wonder so many people don’t understand that message when they’re constantly bombarded with touchy feely messages of what it’s “all about.” Going home for the holidays. … The rest of the story…

Christmas Spirit ghost and some eggs and toast

OK, the Christmas spirit ghost just flew past. And he haunted me, with that reverberating laugh of his, as he regurgitated his annual rebuke of my Christmas joy. “Bah! Funderbug!” Sure, he’s a Christmas spirit ghost. But that’s just mean. But, in his defense (which isn’t my typical perspective), he probably heard me playing my song, “The Christmas Spirit.” It’s sort of a parody … The rest of the story…

When angels sing, is that a thing?

There aren’t any specific verses in the Bible that mention when angels sing. But the idea, or the spirit of the concept of Heavenly choirs of angels, certainly seems completely feasible to me. And based on my own desire to sing out when I think of my many blessings, I can only imagine how angels must feel in God’s presence. I’m sure I’m not … The rest of the story…
