Yeah, I’ve got some alliteration for kids today. So, if you’re a grown-up, you can just look the other way. Just kidding, of course. Because you’ll probably have to read this to your kids or grandkids. Unless they are homeschooled. If so, they might actually understand the rhyme I’m gonna share.
It’s alliteration for kids that doesn’t talk down to them.
As always, it’s my goal to spark their imagination and get them to see the amazing art inside their brains. The art that God gave them the ability to see. And I believe alliteration for kids can actually activate that art (see what I did there?).
When I started writing the rhyme you’re about to read, I thought it would be something other than what it turned out to be. But the inner workings of my imagination took it a whole different direction. And, after all the years I’ve been writing, I still enjoy when that happens. Because I figure if it surprised and delighted me, it might surprise and delight kids. Sure, it’s been a long time since I was a kid. But I don’t think I forgot everything.
So, read this to your kids or grandkids.
And let me know their reactions as you activate their brains with…
Tinkling trinkets twinkled through the tiny town.
Lots of lemon drops were lofted by a clown.
And the muffins made with mandarin were sweet…
As the fireworks and fireflies lit up the street.
With one glance a glad glissando glided by…
And a perfect pizzicato pierced the sky…
You might ask where was this wonderment beheld…
I won’t tell you, and I cannot be compelled.
‘Less, of course, you’d share the shelter of your shade
With the people passing by in the parade.
Then I’d treat you to the treasures tendered there
As you aided an archangel unaware. © 2013 TF
