The first line of the song is all it takes. Sleep my love, and peace attend thee.
Yeah, just those 7 words in the first line.
And, immediately, my time travel machine transports me back to the eighth grade. And when I hear the rest of the first verse, I see the 13 and 14 year old version of me. Working, for hours and hours. And even days and weeks on one single song. This one.
Sleep my child and peace attend thee,
All through the night
Guardian angels God will send thee,
All through the night
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and dale in slumber sleeping
I, my loved ones’ watch, am keeping,
All through the night.
It’s called “All Through The Night.”
It probably used to be a lot more famous and familiar back then. My eighth grade choir teacher, Miss Schott, picked it out for me to sing for our local school voice competition. And she spent hours of her personal time coaching me. She taught me to use my breathing diaphragm the way I still use it today.
And I used that training to record vocals for some popular lullaby songs that you can find in a unique songbook, coloring book, drawing book for kids. It’s called Lullabye Bye. You can hear one of those lullabies, when you tune into The Power of God’s Love podcast.
Now I lay…lay me down,
Blink and wink, my dreams come and take me.
Now I lay…lay me down
If I’m gone too long, come and wake me.
(from the song, Now I Lay Me Down in the Lullabye Bye collection)
But if you just found out about me, and you’re still getting to know who I am, don’t buy anything from me. Instead, do this and let me give you something first…
