Everybody loves those worst to first stories. Like this young woman who took her relay team from last place to first place with an amazing run…

That girl was nothing short of amazing. There might have been two or three people in the whole crowd who believed she could do what she did. But it’s likely almost no one thought she could pull it off.

Anyway…

If you’re an American who’s been around more than a couple of decades, you probably have the cheer-for-the-underdog spirit. Right? I sure do. Because you and I don’t wanna see someone lose badly and have to deal with such soul-wrenching defeat.

There’s another worst to first story I really like.

It’s about a guy named Paul. He did some very bad stuff. And I mean very bad. And a lot of it. Not bad stuff like put somebody down on social media. I’m talking bad stuff like killing and destroying whole families. Yeah. That kind of bad stuff.

It was so bad, in fact, that Paul was blinded by light and heard a voice where no one was visible. But that’s another part of Paul’s story you should check out for yourself if you never had. Right now I’m gonna focus on something Paul actually said about himself.

He said, “I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an insolent (rude and arrogant) man…”

He also said, “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.”

Wow. He basically called himself the worst sinner. But thankfully Paul didn’t die during that time of his life. In fact, he went from worst sinner to best apostle. At least best for anyone who wasn’t a Jew. And that includes me.

And Paul’s story shows that God’s promise of everlasting life and love is available to even the worst sinner. Since Paul said he was the worst, that means you’re not. So, what’s holding you back? Why don’t you take that baton Paul’s holding out to you and run this race like your life depended on it.
