Hey kids (and the grownups who take care of them). I trust in Jesus. So, I write about happiness and optimism pretty much all the time. But Shakespeare said no man is an island. So, maybe not everyone is feeling happy and optimistic right now. In fact, I hear tell there are people of all ages feeling blue these days. What?!
It’s odd, to me, that feeling blue means unhappy.
Because blue is my favorite color and it makes me feel good when I see certain shades of it. Yeah, bold blueberry blue is Mister Tony’s superpower color. But, OK, I get it. It’s not all about me.
Sure, there’s a lot of bad news out there. People just don’t seem to be able to get along. And for some reason some people want to be king of the world and make everyone serve them.
But you don’t have to be like them. You can do so much more with your life. Especially when you look for ways to serve others. Think about it a sec. When you do something special for your mom or dad or sister or brother, don’t you feel great? Or at least better?
That’s the funny thing about problems and troubles. When you focus on them, they look bigger and badder than they really are. And that keeps you feeling blue. Then, you make things worse as you focus on them even more. And, before you know it, feeling blue turns into something worse.
But when you learn to look for answers instead of staring at or complaining about the problems, you start to work your brain in a really good way. That’s why I say, look UP, when things get you down and stuck…
In The Middle
When you’re really in the middle
And you’re feeling like a riddle,
And you start to get a little bit down…
Take your eyes off all your troubles.
Let ’em float away like bubbles.
When they pop, then I bet you can’t frown.
When you think your life is rotten…
All the good things have been gotten,
And the world’s takin’ more than it gives…
Start to laugh and start to winkin’.
You can stop that stinkin’ thinkin’.
That’s the way that a happy kid lives.
Yeah, your face might get all flappy
When you walk around so happy,
But your life is gonna mean much more.
Now go be a sparkling fountain
Or a bright light on a mountain
