Cast down but not destroyed leaves me overjoyed

Let’s say, for the sake of argument (<< figure of speech), that you feel like the whole world is closing in on you. And let’s say that you listen to and watch “news,” but the more you see and hear, the more confusing it is. And, finally, let’s say it all makes you feel generally cast down in this world. Here’s how a couple … The rest of the story…

Everlasting comfort found where your soul could sure abound

Some people think there are many mysteries of life. Those people never seem to find satisfactory answers to their burning questions. I have. And it brings me everlasting comfort. Maybe you think talk about everlasting comfort is just wishful thinking. But maybe it isn’t. And when I say “maybe it isn’t,” I mean, it isn’t. I hope you’re not one of those who says … The rest of the story…

My way or the High Way?

In case you don’t know, or don’t remember, Frank Sinatra sang a song called “My Way.” That song starts with this line: “And now, the end is near and so I face the final curtain.” I’ll bet, when Frank sang those lyrics, he wasn’t actually seriously considering the end of his own life. Because, from what I’ve been able to see in his life, … The rest of the story…

Valuable information and it's quite a revelation

Pssst…hey you. Yeah, you. C’mere. I got some valuable information…a code…and I need someone I can trust with it just in case I’m not around to get it into the right hands. Yeah, some earth-shattering things might happen real soon. And just in case they do, maybe you can use this code to help yourself and some others get out of a jam. Even if … The rest of the story…

Waning crescent moon in a simple little tune

Wow. I found this description of a waning crescent moon on a university website. “John the Baptist is sometimes connected with the waning moon (Baptisry of Östr Hoby, Sweden, 12c) to explicate his role as the last prophet of the waning Old Testament which is regarded, simultaneously, as a promise of the New Testament. The moon contrasts here the sun as symbol of fulfillment, … The rest of the story…

Understanding is the key after something else. You'll see.

They say if you wanna make meaningful connections, understanding is the key. And I agree. But then again, I disagree. Understanding is a word that can have an almost identical meaning as either a noun or an adjective. Most people probably wouldn’t give that a second thought, but I think it’s a very cool and interesting fact. Mull this over for a minute or … The rest of the story…

Nothing without love is the message from above

Who you are, what you do, and what you know, all of it, means nothing without love. Absolutely nothing. Because if it isn’t in you, then neither is life. So, that means you and I are nothing without love from God. Because love didn’t evolve. It came from an eternal source. And that source is your Creator. Whether you believe in Him or not … The rest of the story…

Ordinary person writes about the one who made lights

Imagine somebody who could conjure up designs for the universe and everything in it. And now imagine somebody who could get it all built in only six days. This doesn’t sound like some ordinary person. Right? The sun, moon, and stars. Animals. Birds. Fish. Reptiles. And…oh yeah, human beings. Yeah. God is definitely no ordinary person. Surely I don’t have to tell you that. All … The rest of the story…

False accusations and confused evaluations

It isn’t difficult to stir up emotional opposing opinions when it comes to talking about God. And I got another example of this, recently, from a woman who didn’t like my post about Katharine Hepburn. Her comments were filled with false accusations against God. And even more interesting, the comments showed anger toward a “dictator god” she claims doesn’t exist. Which is it? God … The rest of the story…

From first to last in a time that passed

Several years ago I shared a scenario where going from first to last was a good thing. Since we’ve gone from the first day of 2021 to almost the last day (as I write this it’s December 30), I think it’s appropriate to share it again. Imagine you’re a runner in the 1 mile event at the track and field competition in the Olympics. … The rest of the story…

Gift of gold in a story of old

Imagine getting gift of gold just for being born. And some frankincense and myrrh oil, too. It sounds like an awesome way to get started in life. And for regular ol’ humans, like you and me, it would be. But what if your birth was foretold? And I mean hundreds and even thousands of years before you were born. That gift of gold, frankincense, and … The rest of the story…

Briars and thorns? Take the bull by the horns!

My Grandmother wouldn’t drop it. She probably mentioned it to me every time I saw her. But it was because she loved me enough to try and keep me out of the briars and thorns in life. Finally, when I was thirteen, I saw the sign my Grandmother talked about all the time. And, at last, the sign made sense to me. The signpost … The rest of the story…

Twinkle Twinkle, there you go. Or at least I sure hope so.

Imagine flying up into the the far reaches of the sky. And imagine it happens so fast everybody thinks you just disappeared. Suddenly you’re like a nursery rhyme. Twinkle twinkle, there you go. Would that be the coolest thing or what?! What’s that you say? It sounds silly? Childlike? Ridiculous? Beautiful body. Glorious body. Does it matter to anybody?

Back in 1976, I got to see a farewell concert by Loggins and Messina. It was in the Uptown Theater in Kansas City. A very cool venue which seated only about 2000 people. They had been a duo for a while. And they wanted to go their own creative ways. The Bellamy Brothers were their opening act. And you might remember them for a … The rest of the story…

Enemies at the gate will have a very long wait

If you’re a Christian, conservative type of person, you might be feeling enemies at the gate right about now. And if you’re not, it’s either because you keep your light under a basket, or they just haven’t gotten to you, yet. But fair warning. There WILL be enemies at the gate. Once you live beyond your childhood you acquire enemies. That’s a sad and … The rest of the story…

Multiply the seed and fulfill the daily need

I remember driving across Kansas on I-70, headed to college in Manhattan (the little Apple, not the big one). And every so often I’d pass a sign that said something like, “One Kansas farmer feeds 27 people.” I can’t say, for sure, the number was 27. But it somewhere in that range. But nowadays those signs say something like 257 people. Regardless of the … The rest of the story…

Hypocritical talk unless you walk the walk

There it was again today. Another case of a Christian guy saying, “Don’t judge.” And he’s a nice guy. We’re connected on a social media channel. We’ve never met in person. But if we knew each other better, I’d be sure to tell him to stop saying that. Because it’s hypocritical talk. Yep. Telling people not to judge is hypocritical talk. Because you DO … The rest of the story…

Not qualified till you change what's inside

Have you ever been told you’re not qualified for the job? Or have you ever just felt unqualified for a job or something else in life? It’s common. And, if you’re like most of us, your answer is yes to both questions. So, it follows that you might feel you’re not qualified to go to Heaven. I’ve certainly felt that way. Pray for all men. Hmm, so it's this again.

There it is. In black and white. It clearly says, “pray for all men.” And it’s right there in Paul’s letter to Timothy, his protégée. But hold on a second. Are those words actually in Paul’s letter? And do those words mean what you think they mean? No. And…probably not. If you own a New King James Bible, you can clearly see the words … The rest of the story…

Christian Love should rise above

It’s really interesting. And I’m talking about those things, in life, that repeat even when you least expect them. And then, other things, that should repeat, don’t. I read a passage in Paul’s letter to the Philippians, early this morning, and it made me aware of something he did that I don’t do. And it has to do with Christian love. Paul didn’t call … The rest of the story…
