Back in the early 2000’s, Elgielene and I watched episodes of an old black and white TV show starring Burns and Allen. It was a weekly show about the misadventures of Georg Burns and Gracie Allen, his wife. And we caught it late at night after we got home from work.
After the Burns and Allen show, we watched Jack Benny episodes.
And those were just about the only shows we missed after we canceled TV from our cable service. Since then, we’ve mostly only watched what we can stream off YouTube or Prime.
For a while we enjoyed not having to listen to 5 or 6 minutes of commercials between TV shows. And we enjoyed not hearing all those lawyers talking about helping you get all the compensation you deserve from those dastardly drug dealers.
We no longer endured infomercials that showed how to build wealth whether the economy is bad or good. And we didn’t have to spend a half hour channel surfing to find a show without a killing rampage, sex, crude jokes, or vampires and zombies.
But, as they say, all good things come to an end.
And these days you have to sift through a lot of that junk to find something to watch on YouTube. Then, you have to try to skip through drug commercials and tons of other weird stuff. And that’s even if and when you can find G-rated content like the old Burns and Allen show.
But we figured out some things to make it a little easier. And it’s still a better option than just about anything on TV. Maybe none of this matters to you, but it should. Because the ruler of this world uses darkness to steal your soul.
There ain’t no dark when you can see the light.
And there ain’t no black hole in your heart.
Prepare your eyes for the never-ending sunrise.
