A social media friend of mine who shares photographs, by her and other skilled photographers, posted a picture that captured the emerald northern lights. And she called it. Emerald Embrace. The picture, and her title, inspired me to write a rhyme using one of my faves.
Alliteration? Absolutely.
In this case, I focused on alliteration in only one line and in the title. Not in every line, the way I generally like to work it out. There’s no deep or hidden meaning as to why I did that. I just decided to do it that way. That’s all. And none of that means much of anything to anybody but me.
But here’s what I hope DOES mean something to at least someone. How I connect the physical and ethereal components of our world to the one true living, loving God of creation. Because without him there would be nothing to see and no one here to see it.
And I know, that the northern lights (aka: Aurora Borealis) or not actual brushstrokes from the so-called “art of God.” It’s a metaphor, Mickey. Let’s move on. But I used the metaphor to illustrate how even the most beautiful things we can witness here on earth are just previews of coming attractions in Heaven.
So, look into the glasses at the top of this post and you’ll see a small version of the emerald northern lights in the picture that inspired…
Emerald Embrace
I sat upon an emerald,
The green glow glazed my eyes.
And I beheld the art of God
His brushstrokes in the skies.
The neon shone
Through bright chartreuse,
And pine and malachite
And all the way into my heart
That still and liquid night.
I know, for God, the painting was
A glimpse of what will be,
In Heaven’s emerald embrace,
With Him eternally. © 2023
