More to life than a butter knife

There’s more to life than stuff. OK. There. I said it. And I defy you (or anyone) to prove me wrong. Because you can’t.

Yeah, there’s more to life than fixins.

Fixins are just a Southern way of sayin’ stuff.

Not that I have anything against stuff. Believe me. I’ve got plenty of stuff. Just like most Americans. More than I need. And even in the poorest sections of the country, people have more than they need. Because, believe it or not, you don’t NEED a smartphone.

Gasp! That’s technoblasphemy.

But it’s true. And even though most kids these days wouldn’t know what to do without their devices, they’re not necessary. In fact, you might not believe this, but kids got by without them for centuries.

I saw a meme, this morning, that showed a picture of an old school phone I remember very well. It was fairly large. And families had one hanging on the wall. The meme said, “I used to talk on a phone that hung on the wall. And I would answer it without knowing who was calling.”

Good stuff.

Yeah, this world is constantly bombarding kids with the idea that they need the stuff. But the stuff can be stolen. What’s truly important, crucial, and necessary is something you can’t even see. A relationship with the One who made you. That’s why I wrote a song about the stuff and why you need to…

Beat The World

Every time you turn your back
There’s somebody there to pick your pockets
And so you see there’s more to life
More than love and rockets
Deal with reality the best that you can
Try to remember there’s a higher plan
That’s the only way to beat the world at its own game

Yeah…every time you make your mark
There’s somebody there to erase it
And people say that’s just the way it is
And boy you’d better face it
But you believe there’s gonna be a better day,
So you pray for strength and better words to say
That’s the only way to beat the world at its own game

C’mon and beat the world, and try to leave a dent
But don’t regret the time that you’ve spent
C’mon and beat the world, and try to leave a bruise
You need to know the life that you choose
Is gonna beat the world…

Every time you see the morning news
They talk about another killing
It’s beyond my power to comprehend
How the taking of life could be thrilling
Banish the dark side; live in God’s light
Rise and shine and you can win this fight
That’s the only way to beat the world at its own game

Oh, can you imagine…
If we were all serving the True God,
Would we still be living this way?
